  • Very nice sounding China. What is it?

  • I love your ride

  • hahaha u re sick i love this kind of drumming:P

  • Ummmm. You look just like me. This is kind of freaking me out.

  • Boringggg. And your cymbal setup looks retarded. All jumbled up there with no purpose

  • use some space. all your doing is 16th notes and rolls lol

  • You are are well on your way. Think a bit about dyanimics, maybe add a small hh for accents. Technically it's good, and your good at that, but simple things go a long way when integrated with sophisticated patterns. Keep up the good work.

  • Man, i love your kit. And your awesome too

  • tune you floor toms

  • cant you read? it says he is not happy with the tuning of his floor toms in the description and that he is going to retune them

  • That was awesome. Love the setup dude but Im not a fan of the colour. Ive never liked plasticy colours like that....does anyone get what I mean...not trying be rude or anything but just my preference I guess.

  • what kind of heads were those?

nice drumming, i love your setup dude.

  • what kind of sticks are those :O

  • You are one of the few drummers who prefer the birch shell over the maple shell. BTW good drumming.

  • I'm more a fan of birch, as well. Birch is probably my favorite wood for drums, actually. I'm also a big fan of Bubinga and African Mahogany.

  • fucking awesome.

    you are an amazing drummer.

    keep it up

  • beautiful kit! I've got an identical brx kit with the exact same sizes but in sunburst. you're a good drummer but with all due respect, you need to do alot more practice.

  • dude...nice kit..nice playing...youre AMAZING!

  • Thanks a lot!

  • Ok folks, this is bob gatzen son.

  • awesomeness

  • Thanks!

  • Holy Amazing.

  • What is the shell composition? is it the 6 ply or the 4 ply with reinforcement rings?

  • 6-ply

  • dude...that was amazing.

very nice set. how much did that piece go for?

  • I'm not sure how much it totaled in at on this vid but it currently is over $6000. Since this video I've upgraded to 2000 series cymbal stands which was around $900 so I guess it was about $5,000-ish on this video.

  • ah i beg you to get some Remo pinstripes!! that would sound awesome!

  • DUDE THAT IS AN AWESOME KIT

nice job i liked your style

  • Thanks!

  • I really like your style and ofc the kit

  • Awesome man, how do you lik it? I love the sizes of yours 'cept for that 13", 13's never seem to blend well even sized toms. I wish I had a 18"x16" like you though. I had one on my old export and I loved it.

  • I also have a BRX masters kit, I LOVE it. Check out its sound if you like.

  • I've seen you play before man, you're insane! Your kit sounds good too of course.

  • They're called china cymbals or china crashes. Mine are pretty expensive, Sabian Paragon 19 and 20 chinas. Start with a Wuhan, they sound amazing for how much they cost.

  • Yeah good solo dude, I love your ability to roll sounds cool, very professional. Keep up the good work dude.

  • Thanks again!

  • are those sabian paragon cymbals???

  • Yes

  • hey man how much were those drums i got to kno lol but for real im a drummer myself im a beginner hoping to take it to the pros

  • Well I recently made a spec list for a forum I go on of the kit and in it I included all of the prices. It totaled to $6,083 aprox.

  • the 14" and the 16" are the floor toms right?

  • Well they are rack toms but yes, they're 14" and 16".

  • kool

  • sure

  • k ill add you

  • yeah, i gotta be honest i don't like how this drumset sounds...or the cymbals. w/e. as long as you like em!

  • They sounded like crap in that vid, I've learned to tune them better.

  • and how much if your rack cost?

  • $350

  • well what about the sets any kind just a good one

  • Get a Mapex, best value for the money

  • thanks for a person ona budget whats a good kit to get cause mine sucks?

  • ha dude my splash sounds like yours but it's a $50 zildjian zht 8"

  • Those ZHT's are pretty decent.

  • y do you have 2 snares?

  • Great playing and awesome kit!

  • Sick Ass kit and great playing. By the way what kind of cymbals are those?

  • Sabian Paragon

  • Congratulations you play very well I have a BRX Platinium mist 22 , 10 12,13,16,18 tom .

  • Thanks man. Ooh, I like Platinium mist, such a cool finish.

  • Which do you prefer of the paragon hats? 13 or 14? Im gonna get me a pair, but not sure on size. It would help quite a bit. Thanks

    -Jeff

  • I like the 14"s because they are louder but if you want a really crisp hi-hat noting can beat the 13".

  • hey, how long u been playing for?

  • 8ish years

  • Dude nice job soloing. Good job being on top of your comments!

  • can i hav ur old one?

  • Yes, for $800. :)

  • Hey man. ur really good, nice solo. and ur set up is sick, its looks and sounds great man.

  • Thank you!

  • Yes

  • hey mate what are those sticks you use?

  • Vic Firth Dave Weckl Evolution.

  • Play near the center of the snare drum, you wont get those weird overtones. Otherwise, nice chops, great stick control bro!

  • Thanks man, I actually love overtones in a snare, gives it character and doesn't make it sound dry.

  • Overtones are nice, but when you're miced up, they will actually drown out the actual snare hits (if you're using a good quality snare mic).

  • Right you are! I re-tune it for studio use, I make it a bit dryer.

  • LOL @tylin....got pro?

    MORBID ANGEL DRUM CHECK PLEASE!

  • I check that out and holy crap! I can't play that, my feet aren't even at half that speed.

  • hi can you tell me what types of rolls you do near the begining, at 00.47 for example? thanks

  • Nice Kit.. Very nice solo. for an "amature" your ability on your weaker hand (his left for people dont know) is pretty emmense. one of the few drum solos on you tube ive actually enjoyed watching. fix the couple of minor timing lapses and get your bass drum working more during the solos tho. ;) good shiz tho

  • You hav a rediulous amount of cymbals for your playing ability

  • I hate your kit. Sorry, no respect for pearl.

  • poor poor

  • You don't have any feeling, you should focus on your hands because you have speed, study some legs too.

  • oright ok i have ordered it in ocean spearkle and im getting i think its saturn hardware is that snare on the left a picalo or a popcorn snare?

  • hey im getting a blue brx to in the exact size but iv seen your useing a icon rack did you buy a front rack then 44"curved side extension because my rack wont go far enough any info will be help full

  • No, I just bought the full 3-sided curved rack, the DR503 I think. So you're getting an Ocean Sparkle BRX huh, what color hardware are you going to get?

  • How much did that drum set cost? (US dollars)

What heads did you use for the snare? and tuning tips for my snare to sound like yours?

  • All in all, the whole thing is about $6,000. I paid $2,100 for just the drums themselves (incase that's what you're asking). Tuning for the snare? CRANK the bottom super tight, then tighten the snare wires (with the chord not just the knob too). You can play around with the top tuning a little depending on what sound you want. In this vid it was tuned medium-tight.

  • Well, I'm sort of new to the tuning snare thing so a little more detail and help would be thoughtful. =D

  • Niceeeee job man. Your cymbal set is very impressive lol. Nice hand technique on the snare. You could work on the feel. Pratice some new-orleans funk, this rocks on improving feel.

  • Thanks man, my solos suck big time on feel, get me with a band though and I can groove like crazy.

  • What kind of cymbals are those? Sabian?

  • Yes, Sabian Paragons.

  • damn, soundin' nice. i've used zildjian since as long as i can remember. i wanted to make a new move, but it's a bold one and I'm not familar with sabian at all. I was looking at AAX, what do you think?

  • Sabian AAX will be the next cymbal line I buy, I need thinner cymbals for smaller gigs (because Paragons are thick and friggin' loud!). Trust me, you can't go wrong with AAX's, they are great cymbals. They sound a lot like Zildjian A Customs.

  • I am going back to Zildjian Z Customs, so what Sabian model resembles those?

  • Z Customs were made for hard hitters, Sabians version of those are called the Sabian AA Metal.

  • yeah, that's exactly why I'm going back to the Z Customs. I was just wondering which sabian brand is comparable to them. thanks!

  • Dude man, I just wanted to say that the solo you replied with is just incredible!

  • Paragons?

  • Yes, the whole set w/the flight case.

  • damn dude thats badass, though paragons sound really nice, i'm hoping to get some heavy stuff and your kit! =D

  • Thaks man!

  • That set is awesome. cool stuff. how much did it cost??

  • That whole set cost around $6,000.

  • including cymbals? or just toms, snare and bass?

  • cymbals, drums, rack, all hardwareh, pedals ect. The whole thing.

  • oh now i get it, i tought you said 600 haha XD

  • lol, only in our dreams right?

  • I like the part at 2:16

  • Is a shame that your killing that great drumset, change your tunning and take more lessons

  • awesome

  • hey, what do you use to record this? i dont see any drum mics, and it sounds great

  • Hey thanks, I just used my Kodak digital camera.

  • nice drum solo..and nice kit..like the cymbals.

  • nice paragons dude. does ur higher toms set off ur snare wires? mine do and it annoys me. sounds very close to my kit.

  • Sometimes they do, it depends on how tight I have my snare tightened. When I record I tighten them so they buzz but live I can leave the snares a little looser so they'll be more sensitive and when ever you hit the toms you can't really hear the buzzing through the guitars and stuff.

  • saw off all that high hat rod

  • Sweet set up and great playing!

  • Nice vid. You must be loaded.

  • nice kit but u don't kno how to use it

  • And I suppose you do. Just another idiot that gets a kick out of bashing people on YouTube.

Good drumming man, keep it up!

  • How in the world did u get the money to afford all that?! Just the cymbals alone are $2000, drums more than that, and all that hardware i can't imagine! u must be a drug dealer or something.

  • A collection over two years, dumping every paycheck into it.

  • he has one set of paragons he uses with each of his kits.

  • umm maybe he has a job dumbshit

  • Your kit sounds good .looks like they are the same color as my Premier kit .My Premiers are a dark electric blue woodgrain laquer.looks also like you got the coated batter heads .The ones i have used on my Premier kit that gave me the best tone were the Remo Fiberskin heads ...loved them

  • all in all, you deserve that kit.

  • Cool sound but that kick is just a boring thud.. There's no euuph... missing a little def... Cool kit man. I'm jealous..

  • Consider that's also up against the wall, it has no room to breath. It sounds awesome anywhere else but the whole kit in general sounds like crap in my room, lol.

  • What kind of hihat do you use? Pm me the answer

  • The hihat is a Sabian Paragon. I'm pretty sure about that, cuz all (I guess) the other cymbals are Paragons.

  • hey guys, just read your lil dialogue about tuning the lower toms and I got the same problem. My 16" floor won't sound warm and full at all...I already came up with drumzac's idea myself (tuning it down to 'zero' and then gradually tighten it again), but it wouldn't help. Maybe I'm using the wrong batter head? (RMV Classic Duo) got any hints?

  • Try tuning the bottomhead lower than the batterhead. I just did that, and the sound is so great now! :)

  • Thanks, dude! Gonna try it right away...tomorrow! :)

  • jeez jon...everytime i c ur video..u always get something new..hahaha..i still havent gotten my new kit yet..and u already got paragons n a new kit...niceee

  • lololol ^^^ i think its funny when people question the amount of cymbals lololol

  • sweet kit! but do you really need all of those cymbals? keep rockin!

  • I'd say bring all lugs down to just finger tight, and start retuning. Of course make sure all the lugs are in tune with each other and do whatever you want with the relation to the batter and resonant, i.e. if you want the resonant higher or at the same pitch as the batter.

Tune up to the lowest and most pure tone the drum gives off. Because of the 2" intervals per each drum this should give you a fantastic range throughout all the drums.

  • They are maple of course but I've heard some pretty warm birch kits before...ala Yamaha Recording Customs and BCAN's. It's the 14" and 16" that are THE only drums that sound bad to me. I love the rest of the kit. I love the kit in general, don't ge me wrong. Just the floors is all.

  • Thanks, I was misunderstanding you because I think that the 10" and 12" sound fantastic. Any tuning tips for the floors? I can't seem to tune them that well.

  • The floors are always hard for me to tune, and i have an 18 inch on my brx and i cant tune that for shit thats why im trying to sell it lol but the bigger ones are hard to tune and if u get get any tips send them to me also lol

  • I'm all about open and warm toms as well. If you think I like detuned and muffled Pinstripes then you judged me wrong. When you hit a 14" and/or 16" floor it shouldn't sound twangy like it does in the video. Playing so close to a wall also doesn't help.

Well if it's personal preference which I know it is, I will say this...you play that Pearl BRX with awful sounding toms and I will enjoy my Sonors with nice warm, open, and enjoyable tones.

  • What kind of wood is your Sonor made out of? The only reason I ask is because the BRX is made out of birch which isn't as warm as maple. Also like I said in the description I'm not happy with the tunning of the 14" and 16" toms, they sound like crap.

  • Ya man, I'm having some real issues getting a deep warm tone from my floor tom. I have a BRX and the floor tom is a 16. I've always struggled with this.

  • I just retuned my 16" and it's sounding awesome! I'm still can't get a decent sound out of my 14" though, I've always have had probems with that size in the past.

  • haha yea those toms are FAR from 'cranked'. they sound reall nice, and props to unmuffling those bad boys, gotta let em breathe man.

  • How toms sound on a drum set is a matter of personal preference, I think they sound wonderful. I'm big fan of Dave Weckl's sound so that influence my tuning. They're actually not tuned high at all, it just that they have no muffling on them what so ever.

  • Sounds great but you have the toms WAY TOO CRANKED. You also can't say it's the video because I know better than that.

  • i didnt get to fit part two in... i also wanted to say i like that broken-beat groove near the beginning, the clyde stubblefeld-y sounding thing. I just think if you laid back a tiny bit on it it would groove twice as hard. keep it up dude

  • hey man. nice chops. I would suggest playing with a metronome more often so you wont hiccup as often. otherwise, the best cure for hiccups is to save the shit you're gonna hiccup on for practice and only show off the shit you think you had down like a year ago. that way 100% of your set is gonna be nailed-and youd be surprised at how tight simple shit sounds if you nail it
