I wonder what's with all the hate. The show's OBB needs updating every few or so years. The opening heightens the mood as the episode starts then takes a breather as we pick up where the story left off to help shake out. I also like the arrangement made for the theme tune. It's different but still recognizable.

i love the new titles and theme, im glad its changed. the 1st time i saw it i thought it was a bit naff but looking at it closely, the detail put into this is great! if u look closely u can see the different soap stuff like an affair (playing footsy under the table) etc and normal day to day life :)

I doubt it, too popular plus it was only slightly updated in 2009. They jazzed EastEnders theme up in 1993, didnt last 12 months and soon went back to the original theme.

I like the new theme (which isn't new just more updated and less melodramatic than the older version). The titles convey what goes on with one sweeping shot after another of places and images.

Granted, it's copying what "Coronation Street" did when they underwent their revamp of their main titles a year ago so "Emmerdale" doesn't get any points on originality however the presentation and look is still good.

Give it time people, it will grow on you.......

I think this is brilliant! I love it. Transitioning through iconic dwellings and pub, the running up the stairs (for a fling, presumably), the adorable yet scruffy pooch, the flirting underneath the table ... it's all well done! I wished they had used the Bartons' Land Rover instead of the newer model, though.

Certainly Land Rover will be proud of the first 4 seconds! And to be honest would make a great Land Rover ad!

Overall I'm not liking the new Theme, they have tried to hard, and the CGI is just bad, looks to obvious that its not the actual surroundings.

They have clearly tried to make the opening similar to Corrie, but instead failed!

It might grow on me, but at the moment its not looking like it

The previous opening was true to the "Roots" of Emmerdale Farm; it had been modernized to make it more contemporary. The new opening bastardizes the opening theme and shows the viewer a disconnected stream of video snipits that does not reflect "Emmerdale". The video process making the last scene appear "story book like" is appealing. BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD PEOPLE.

It took a while to grow on me, but i like it :D everything is coming into the 21st century it needed this, emmerdale needs to be seen as a proper up 2 date soap, the change to the opening titles is a big step that  LOVE

I don't know why so many people don't like the change. I think it's great! It feels more modern and classy! I know it's a country village, but it's about time they move forward with the times. I always felt like a 60+ year old woman every time the old opening sequence came on. This makes the show feel younger. Whatever they gotta do to make it more appealing to the general audience. I love the quality and the subtext. It makes the village seem mysterious and eventful - which it is. I'm a fan!

Visually it's okay-ish... Too much time spent on the floor and I'm not keen on the implied horny couple at Home Farm or in the Woolly. The CGI valley just doesn't work considering we're all well aware the village is surrounded by trees. Needs more greenery. This one seems to suggest "middle classes have sexy times in a village".  The music is dreadful. Bring back the Constant Gardener from the last intro who was forever trimming those hedges at the Vicarage!

Personally, I love the valley that it showed when it was opening. I always wanted to know where that was filmed from. I just imagine going there in person to really see it. It is beautiful and green. I will miss it. But this show is changing. I am not watching as much these days. I am cautious about watching because of Jackson and what is going to happen to him. It is still too early for me to see anyone involve with suicide again. Some close to me did it and died.

I am not impressed. It's like when The Bill changed its 2001-2002 titles from the classy black and blue tiles to the bad grainy 80's porn video, complete with cheesy revamped theme. This starts like a car commercial, then tracks like a spot for a home furnishing business. It's clearly shorter so they can fit in more advertising beyond the Land Rover and ladies footwear they packed in the opener.

However, it does seem to jump ahead of itself in 2 or 3 places, which is quite jarring :( Also, is it me or do the first two indoor shots look like the interior of a miniature model??

@Andrewsmiith The reason it looks like a miniature model is because of the tilt-shift effect they used. They even used that effect in the last shot of the village which makes it look fake/miniture as well. That's a bit odd that they would make the village set look fake on the opening, considering they have obviously spent a lot of money making the set look like a real village.

This opening seems a bit too fake to me. The old opening made me feel like this was a real village, whereas this one seems very, for lack of a better description, "studio oriented". I guess it will just take some time to get used to it.
