This video is amazing...i wish that aikido was taught today but the usaf keeps taking techniques off the curriculum, especially weapons...how can you not teach weapons in a martial art created for weapons defense????
Great footage, and for the most part beautiful music. Don't get me wrong, I like the "Hello Zepp" at the end, and in some ways I think it does somewhat fit the power that O' Sensei had...but at the same time it almost seems out of place and too...violent/sinister for such a peaceful man. Either way, love the video.
Only wish I could have taken even one class under him. Thankfully, I am fortunate enough to study in the dojo of the great Gaku Homma Kancho, who I believe continues O'Sensei's work
o sensei was so fast, agile and fluid and not to mention powerful and skillful, aikido people move so well alot better than all those other orts outthere.
Wow - when you move a jo around like that, its sheer weight and speed will tend to unbalance you and fling you around a little. But his movements are so fluid and balanced and powerful ALL the time. Awesome.
The most amazing thing is that is he just does NOT show off. He is just plain good and sincere.
That is a huge difference with nowadays when there seems to be a contest for the best uke throwing. He does not even try to impress or go fast: he does not need it.
This is the real Aikido. If you look to Ueshiba you cannot find a mistake, or a time for a tsuki, a atemi. You fell like been absorved by his energy. Fantastic.
unfortunately this aikido is not taught anymore...the aikikai nowadays has become so soft that it is no longer a martial art but an art.....and it is sad....
I don't agree. I know Moriteru Sensei's demos look soft because he tends to use ALLOT of kokyuo techniques, but he's still a pretty hard teacher. It's still very applicable as a self defence and so it's still very martial. But maybe thats your view of martial arts, as on your profile you said you like sports and then martial arts in a bracket next to it. Martial arts, as it is intended by any of its founders, be it Kano, Ueshiba, Funakoshi, whoever, never design there arts to be sports.
That is not what I mean. Aikido is a very powerfull martial art but the aikikai, at least on the US east coast region, teaches aikido techniques with a diferent mind. They barely teach weapons and a lot of techniques dont even make any sense. It seems to me that they dont see aikido as a MARTIAL art, but just as an art alone.
well thats just in the us east coast then, because I train in aikikai here in the U.K and its very applicable and we do tonnes of weapons training and weapons kata. I think that as Ueshiba is the head of Aikikai, and he's technique is very realistc, to use the generalisation that aikikai is taught 'softly' is ridiculous. But then again aikido is considered a soft art compared to its parenthood. And I still don't agree that you put martial arts in a bracket next to sport, unless you use tomiki
@KurtCobain198666 aikikai is a rare & dying art as most only see aikido. consider yourself lucky if u r learning aikikai; i find it more effective and flows more smoothly than aikido. very good at weapon disarm, it can be deadly!
you know, just because one dojo sucks, or lets say isnt that good doesnt mean all of them are like that...plus, what is "that" aikido? everybody does what they can, you can do more. everybody has a different style. we have three yondan senseis at our dojo. they all study under the same master and every one of them has a unique style and approach to techniques and sill they are all very good...so maybe the problem is also in you
@KurtCobain198666 I practice in UK and we are always taught that the softer you are the more powerful your technique is, only when you are soft you can use KI.
O Sensei explains this in one of his books first technique in strong and hard then as you get better it becomes as a soft flowing movement. And believe me since I started became so much softer and now if we are asked to perform a technique "using strength" it just feels wrong Xp, ^^
@THEoriginaldragontrs if you use strength in aikido, it's not aikido. Using strength means you're forgetting 'ai' (harmony) and not trusting the strength of your ki. Too many aikido schools don't practice with realism, but we do. When someone throws a hook or a jab, it's like your mind just flows with the movement.
i really like the technique but sorry, the music sucks!!
It spoils all the beautiful art of aikido you don't have to play "exciting" music when he is attacked by a spear it is exciting and dangerous alone anyone can see that. From when I turned the volume down it became a much better video.
Morihei Ueshiba, this old man, has founded the Aikido. More you become old and better you become if you train yourself always.

please...don't look his speed like we are used to do when we talk about cars, boxers, sexual habits and other occidental things...
look before his timing...the only real difference between our way to fight and them's way...if u don't want someone hits your nose with a punch, try to don't be here when the punch is arrived...this is aiki-do
I suggest we should be greatful to what we have now... For instance I wish to watch Sokaku Takeda sensei too but he lived long before that would be possible :(
so very interesting that a man so grounded in the world and such a powerhouse is so agile. yet his students which are also very grounded are so clumsy next to him. then you compare those students to their students now and you see the same thing. oh i wish i could have studied under o sensei.
@emdog2564 well theyre also playing along with it :P i know its a demonstration for the whole class not a real fight, but theyre pausing and flopping with his movements, theyre trying to be clumbsy essentially, i study MA too but rly now u gotta know theyre being clumbsy on purpose....
The song is "Light's Theme (ライトのテーマ, Raito no Tēma)" from the first Death Note soundtrack (the anime). As to where to get the song in a higher quality I'll leave you to it ^^
As a side note, I'll recommend you to get all the Death Note soundtracks if you can. If you liked this song you'll love the others (especially the ones by Taniuchi Hideki)
