  • Dan Blocker is buried in Dekalb, Tx, His son, Dennis Dirk Blocker Youngest of 4 children. He has twin sisters, Debra Lee and Danna Lynn, 4 years older, & a brother, producer David Blocker, who is two years older. Dirk's birth name, Dennis, was given to him in honor of his father's best friend since college, Dennis Reed, a high school drama teacher in San Gabriel, California. He's also been on Marcus Welby MD, Little House, Baa Baa Blacksheep, X-Files, & John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness.

  • now i am confused, i know Dan Blocker had one son, Derk , that was in real life, but he never married on the show? so is this a sene from the new Bananza show?

  • handsome, just like his dad. woof.

  • that is not his gravesite , you scammer

  • @TheKatchim That is the gravesite of the CHARACTER "Hoss", not the gravesite of the ACTOR, Dan Blocker, who portrayed Hoss.

  • We used to see them when they were filming Bonanza up near Frazier Park, California. Hoss was a sweetheart of a guy. Every one in that town that had ever met him cried the day he died.

  • My girlfriend was working the shift at the Hospital in Inglewood, CA the night they brought Dan Blocker in. The staff was terribly upset and tried their best to save him. Dan was my favorite on "Bonanza" and he was sorely missed.

    God Bless Dan Blocker

  • he died when he was 43 yrs. old ,embolism from gallbladder surgury and i think the show didnt last over a yr..after he died..

  • yeah it sort of strange

  • big like his dad...

  • Died at 36? Since the show lasted 12 years and he wasn't married when his character died in the series; it hard to imagine how he had a son.

  • Boy the things that conveniently went untold in the original show. The brothers having all these children that were never mentioned. I just personally see Hoss as marrying whatever woman he had a child with and certainly raising the child since apparently this Josh knew his father. These movies seem to have been a nice idea though I personally never got to see them but they don't synch at all with the original show that we actually saw.

  • I didn't know Pernell Roberts was dead. He and Dan Blocker were the realest ones in real life

  • I can't stand these movies. Not because they're 'not good', but everyone's dead except Adam (Pernell Roberts) in both the show and in real life! ='( I seriously cry just thinking about it.

  • @enviousxbeauty I have some bad news for you. Pernell died a year ago.

  • @CoolasIce2 I know, I actually meant as far as the movies are concerned. Like the ones that came out in the '90s. Pernell was still alive when the movie was made. I guess I wasn't clear enough.

  • So, Ben outlived three wives and two sons, not to mention losing contact with his eldest (Adam) and never finding or getting to meet one of his grandchildren........

That is a really sad end to his life. You think the writers would have let him die a happy old man, but clearly they felt it was better to dump as much heartache and sorrow on Ben's shoulders before he passed on.....

    How depressing......

  • He died at 36!?

  • no it says he died when he was 38 but I find that a bit hard to swallow.

  • Was the actor Dirk Blocker? He sure looks like Dan! (RIP)

  • @KutWrite No, his name is Brian Leckner, and the footage posted above is that from Bonanza , the return.

  • The only thing that seems strange to me is that the tombstone says HOSS CARTWRIGHT...the character's name was Eric...he was called Hoss because he was big like a "Hoss" or horse. They would have put Eric Cartwright on the tombstone, not Hoss...even if that was what he was called.

  • in part you are right. Yes he was Eric but all his life he was called Hoss because in Swedish they said it was "cherished" or something like that. What they should have put on his Gravestone was;

    "Eric-Hoss-Cartwright."

  • @msymsed He was called "Hoss" because "Hoss" is Swedish for "big/big+friendly man", according to the original Bonanza series. It has nothing to do with horses. o_O

  • @PonderosaTrekker Wow I knew his name was Eric but I had forgotten that his name was Swedish for "big, friendly man".

  • damn i thought hoss was cute.. that boy o' his is fine!

  • i find it all a bit strange.

  • @ballygeale1 Probably so!

  • I think another goof was that Hoss died in 1872. I believe they way they set up Bonanza is that the storyline was taking place 100 years earlier from the year it was being shown. Dan Blocker died in 1972 and Hoss' death was mentioned during the opening of the 1972-73 season (the show's last).

  • @gfpirate Hey, he looks and sounds just like Hoss lol. That's so cute

  • They goofed. Hoss wasn't born in the year 1842, he was born in 1836. Little Joe was born in 1842. The brothers are six years apart.

  • I think you will find that Hoss was 8 years older

    than Litlle Joe.
