It's great that it's become so popular and we've even had Mestre Gato of Group Senzala teaching here for the past couple of years, but hopefully I'll be able to get over to train in Brazil one day!
Great stuff man! You all make it look so damn easy!
I've been looking into Capoeira for a while and I have to say it definitely is an unusual and beautiful Martial art.
Currently I practice Tae Kwon Do and recently joined up with an MMA studio to get more contact fight training, and I am really dying to incorporate some Capoeira into my style! I think it would make for some really unpredictable moves!
Nice 1 Testa, like the vid you even got some of us abolicao guys in the park, keep it up, let us know if you got anymore capoeira stuff, that was well made god job.
I've trained under Mestre Gato and Contra Mestre Pedro Gatuno for almost 5 years and have never been encouraged to actually hit anyone in the roda, though there will obviously be some contact when doing takedowns like tesoura. I've heard of groups who practice full contact as well but never actually seen them. Definitely some groups are more aggressive in their style though and prefer to practice the combat aspect of the sport.
All martial arts have strengths and weaknesses, some more than others. How effective that style is depends on the person using it, so while you could probably say one fighter is better than another, saying that one style is better than all others is, i feel, pointless. At the end of the day, it's all subjective.
I hope youtube isn't your only point of reference when you say "why we didn't see any martial arts that defeat Jiu Jitsu??". When searching for "vs jiu jitsu", I found approximately 25-30 hits, and, granted, jiu jitsu did win all the ones i glanced at. However, this to me is not proof that it is the complete fighting system, only that no-one has had the time to upload a video that contradicts your point.
Also, Royce Gracie has been training since being a toddler, 37 years (give or take)...
muay thai probably is a more effective fighting style but capoeira has it's merits also - after watching ong-bak, you could argue that tony jaa has incorporated 1 or 2 elements of capoeira into his routine - besides, i think you've missed the point of what capoeira is about - there is more to it than just fighting somebody
a lot of people seem to think you need to be fit already to start something like this and it puts them off trying it - they seem to have the "i could never do that" mentality - let's face it, it can't hurt to have some kind of similar experience (e.g. dance, gymnastics, martial arts) but just like any other sport the best way to get good is just give it a try - you'll quickly get more flexible, stronger and faster the more you practice!
hey i am a cordao de ouro student and love the way they play the style suits me really well and i love it.though i trained with senzala quite a bit in the past and there style is great to.we all have are own styles so watch all capoeira videos there are loads of great and amazing cordao de ouro and senzala teachers and mestres.everybody has there own style so do what you want to do :).also it dosent matter if you are amle or female both sexs can do capoeira.its such a cool video great upload.:)
mon ur self cordao de ouro is an amazing group. i wish i had the money to come down and train with u guys at some point. Im from a pretty small group called glasgow capoeira taught by instructor fiaz :D
You do realise that this video does include clips of Regional games, don't you? Besides, "kick ass" was supposed to sound just a little bit chessy! Lighten up man!
Not always. Certainly, there will more use of direct kicks, such as martelo and bencao, but compasso, armada and queixada are equally common. In my experience, Regional games are played more upright, instead of close to the floor like in Angola, and usually (though not always) at a faster tempo. They are generally more spectacular to watch as well, as the higher tempo allows for greater momentum for acrobatic movements. Check out the Bimba sequences for the basics of Regional!
Thank you, I know the sequences. In my group we separate acrobatics and flowing from Regional. In Regional we never play near to the ground only if we have time to do that. If we do too much groundgame or an acrobatic move in our group we probably going to be kicked or sent to the ground. In our group we also use quixada passa pe(meia lua de frente) and armada but in Regional agressive moves are dominant and (meia lua de compassos).
May group is called Capoeira Bracos Fortes. I offer you the two (or maybe it became three) big videos of it called Vid 1 and Vid 2 We dont have only Regional Videos but In these two Videos there are some cool Regional and Santa Maria scenes.
look at my profile, practically all my favorite videos are capoeira videos. look up specific capoeiristas if you want dope capoeira videos: contra mestre xuxo, contra mestre kibe, mestre poncianinho, contra mestre estrangeiro, mestre espirro... the list goes on. cordao de ouro is what style i prefer to watch, but i prize skill above any particular group. if your question was an honest one, i hope that helps. if you were asking cause you thought i didnt actually know, you just got burnt.
Thanks! I like to get both good and bad comments about the videos I post and if, in your case, you were not all that impressed, it's good to find out where you get your inspiration from. It's good to learn something from others. Hopefully, it'll help me get better at what I do!
yes sir, you got that right..in any other martial arts you can get really high rankings only after a few years of training, but to become a capoeira mestre it takes a life time..
it may not look like its accurate in a street fight but trust me it is, a fun way to kick ass, ive been doing it for two years now..

I've got a friend who does TKD also accidentally knocked somebody out in a training session with an unexpected capoeira movement!
Capoeira is all over in the states now so hopefully you shouldn't have too much trouble finding somewhere to play!

I don't know but if what you said is true, then why we didn't see any martial arts that defeat Jiu Jitsu??
even the Kung Fu Master that had been training for 15 years was defeated by Ryoice Gracie.
you can search on youtube and find it.

in my opinion Muay Thai owns Capoeira.Well if your fighting Tony Jaa then you would lose no matter wat you use.
