JERRY WAS SO TENDER & PROTECTIVE OF HER.

HE KNEW SHE WAS ILL .I BELIEVE SHE DIED A FEW WEEKS AFTER

THIS PERFORMANCE. PBS IS SO "STINGEY" NOT LETTING US WATCH

THIS "ONCE IN A LIFETIME" PERFORMANCE. RIP BETTY

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LET IT BE ME A CLASSIC THE INTERNATIONAL SON OF LOVE

  • I saw this performance on TV...outstanding...best redition of this sound I remember. Unfortunately, Betty died shortly after thsi performance.

  • one of the most beautiul song,s eveer sung. Betty evert was an angle in human form her voice was classic as well as her. Jerry butler is a gifted and tanleted prefomer/ What a gift God gave to the world when he gave them and other,s. Their muscial talnet and vocie,s.

  • great music is timeless. this is great pop music

  • I have a copy of the PBS broadcast of Jerry & Betty singing this classic. He held her hand the whole time and you could tell, it was for support amidst a delicate situation. They looked into each others eyes several times and his look said, "No need to fear, I am with you". What a special moment! It is Doo Wop 51 recorded in 2000 in Pittsburgh Pa.

  • Those strings!!! Those voices!!! Those lyrics!!! Classic!!!

  • Betty was I'll when she sang this duet. What an Angel. I read your comment to know that this earth will alway have great people who can love and love great music.

    ByDBay

  • Betty died shortly after this performance, I saw this performance on PBS (TV) last year. WOW is was great ....

  • RIP BETTY YOUR MUSIC WILL LIVE ON BETTY AND JERRY WHAT PAIR

  • @vinkleman... I agree - it don't matter who you are, when you hear this music, for a moment all is right in the world! Rest in precious peace, Betty... singing with the angels in RocknRoll Heaven! There is none better...

  • I agree with the previous comments, I also so the live performance on PBS, what a special moment, between the two of them. We just don't see or hear people sing like that anymore. Betty we miss you. I go see Jerry live when ever he's in my area. Iceman cometh again.

  • gives me chills still

  • The channel 8 PBS station out of Houston,Tx broadcasted them singing this song and was awesome. Wish the video was on youtube!

  • the most awesome lovesong ever I almost cried when thet did that PBS speacial together.

  • the most awesome lovesong ever

  • I keep checking back in hopes that PBS would release the video of the wonderful performance... but no.... PBS wake up and smell the roses. This leaves a bitter taste in my mouth - I will find it very difficult to give money in the future.

  • Shortly After Jerry and Betty Sang This Beautiful Song, Betty died.

I Watched The Two Of Them That Special Night On PBS- He Treated Her

With Such Sweet Gentlness, Compassion and Love.

    RIP Betty

  • The video of the dance is one of the most wonderful moments in the music of my generation. It is sad it cannot be shared on youtube. There are some things that transcend copyrights and royalties. One other is the Grand Ole Opry tribute to Minne Pearl, where the entire cast and audience sing "May the Circle be unbroken" as people bring flowers to the stage. It has disappeared.

  • this song tear my heart to pieces with memories...those were the BEST days of my life, wish i could back the hands of time and stay 4ever young....bless you all.

  • oh i love these two. my husband and i got to meet jerry and his wife at o'hare airport-he and his wife were so gracious and of course we were ecstatic!!! i'm 63 and my husband is 64-we got to grow up with the great soul singers and groups.!!! thank you for soso much for posting!!!!

  • @tropicalbaby5 I remember that. Sadly they took the video off for some reason. It was truly the best version. As they are singing in between words Jerry says to her "Shall we dance". That video was the best. I wish someday they would decide to repost it.

  • oh how, perfect 10 music by Jerry Butler

  • Another PBS GREAT show

  • This was song at my wedding 29 years ago. It still resonates in my spirit. We are still together with lots of ups and downs but with few regrets. That was a great era to be born into we had the best music. Jerry is still the bomb!!! Faby2Love

  • Long live the memory of Betty & Jerry doing this duet!

  • There was no better time in my life. I am so thankful we can all share, young and old...ME Older.

  • My 14 yr old granddaughter is special to me. I let her hear this and told her that we should record it so when I was long gone, she could listen and think "that was my papaw and me". I am almost deaf and she had to read the words while we were singing. We definitely are NOT Jerry and Betty, but all considered, it came out very good. She recorded it on her cell phone, and we did not practice the song--had never sang together.

  • @wasadoc That's sweet...I'm glad you and your granddaughter got to do that :)

  • One of my favorite songs, thank you :-)One of my favorite songs, thank you :-)

  • It doesn't get better than this. Slow dancing with your first true love to this song is as close to Heaven as you'll get in this world!

It was so Touching to watch!

    RIP Betty...........You were the Best!!.

  • JERRY BUTLER WAS SO GENTLE WITH BETTY THIS NIGHT ON PBS. I KNEW SHE WAS VERY ILL, AND DYING. YOU COULD JUST SEE IT. I AGREE ABOUT HOW THEY LOOKED AT EACH OTHER. I CRIED======R.I.P. BEAUTIFUL LADY

  • just lovely :-)

  • i used to work with the same place as Jerry! and would see him daily, and always would Joke with Him, He gave Me a photo signed to me!! All of us girls just wanted to hear him sing!!!

  • Too many versions: this version is the shit.

  • I scoured the depths of this gaddamn jungle for this gem... AHHH Sweet peace!! This is sung so beautifully!!!

  • Betty Jean Inman - This was "OUR"song in 1959. Oh, why did I have to lose your love those many years ago? My heart break anew and my yearning is crushing every time I hear this song. I have never stopped loving you or thinking about you.

  • @davnkatz You have to search out Betty Jean and let us live vicariously through your wonderful heart. The song is beautiful as is the sentiment expressed in your post...

  • Betty died shortly after this Oldies Show. I saw it on PBS, they were great together !!!

    Gone..but no forgetten !!!

  • @gov111w -----Actually, Betty was very sick and dying when she did this last show with Jerry. To listen to them and watch how they looked at each other, it was almost as if they were soul-mates.

  • They did this on a p.b.s. special not long before she died. You could tell she was sick and hurting.Jerry talked about it but she did a great job.

  • miley cirus, brittany spears...they will never, ever, ever compare to BETTY EVERETT, these young hoochie tramps need to bow down and praise this woman...they will never compare!!!

  • can anyone help me find the Doo-Wop program that they sang together this song, a real heart breaker...

  • @mudsutube That's the one I was talking about but not sure which one it was,but it was priceless when Jerry danced with her.

  • @lueylaw Thanks for the reply, the pbs version was over the top.......

  • Rest in Peace forever Miss Everett ♥♥

  • I'm a 54 yr. old biker but when Jerry comes in at 1:00 i got goosebumps up my hairy, tattooed arms. What beauty.....a classic tune for ANY generation that's hip to what good music can, and should, be.

  • Love it!

  • My favorite version.

  • I lived through the 50's and 60's. I have often told my sons that I wish there was a time machine, so I could take them back to my time and let them see how it was. Betty was sick and dying, when she performed this on PBS with Jerry. Men don't cry--yeah--right! I did when they sang it for the last time.

  • @wasadoc - man I saw that special and u cud tell Ms. Betty was sick but she gave her all and Comm. Butler really helped her. It was a beautiful moment. No I didnt cry....muchlol

  • nothing beats those good old days when music was meaningfull & soft like these.....thanx for posting.

  • My favorite song they were awesome together dont find it around anymore thanks for the video

  • grace and class

  • Betty Everett was something else ! These two had a sound and class that is rare these days.

  • to bobrobfla. The name of the dvd is DOOWOP 51.

  • What is the name of the DVD on PBS. I want to order it to see them dance just one more time. They were the gretest.

  • Does anyone know the exact name of the PBS DVD this was on so I can order it? I would love to see them dance one more time. The greatest due in history

  • They sang so good together, Thank you for sharing.

  • The only thing more beautiful than this performance are the comments posted.

    Thank you everyone.

  • Betty and Jerry are so great on this. Their harmony is incredible and the orchestration so haunting, it just gets to me. Their performance on the doowop series on PBS was the highlight. It really is so sad how shortly Betty passed away after it. Thank God we have that wonderful dvd set from PBS to watch over and over.

  • @4everbobby He was so heartborken after she died that he wasnt the same and he too succumbed to disease.

  • Jerry Butler is still alive. He lives in the Chicago area. he is married with two kids and he is a granfather to.

  • well leave it to my parents to feed me lies lol

  • @frankd1965

    And Now 70 Years Old:)

  • This song - THEIR version - is one of the most beautiful songs in recorded music history!

  • The day they did this song Betty was not feeling so good, and the way they looked at each other acting out the song was so beautiful. I have this video and believe me it made me cry it is so touching ,it is a must see. R.I.P. Betty

  • upload plz!

  • @YOLI588 I cried when I saw it, too. I found out form inside sources that Betty knew she was dying, and so did Jerry... you can tell by looking at their faces during the performance that they both knew this was the last time they would sing together. I sobbed for an hour after that.

  • This is a true love song to all the couples.

  • My girlfriend and I sang this at a kareoke bar. I am going to use this song for our wedding.

  • I'am so sad that a tresure like this can not shared by everbody. I know someone has a copy of it live. You should share it. In the history of music there's a very few song's song like this.

  • According to Rhino Records, the distributor for all PBS recordings like the Doo Wop series, you can only get a physical DVD copy (whatever that means) through a local PBS station now, which I assume means making a considerable donation (I donated $125 at the time). So you might try calling Rhino, or your local PBS station, if you feel like ponying up some big dollars to get it. Let It Be Me is on DooWoop 51 DVD. Good luck!

  • Can somebody tell me how to get the video? I just bought the Doo wop collection from timelife. What a fiasco. This song isn't there. I'm serching on the internet and found the 2 DVD live performance aired for PBS but this song isn't there eaither. Can someone help me? This is a special song that My husband and I choose to be our song when we were in a difficult time. Thanks.

  • What happened to the live version?

  • Oh please! Bring back the live video! Please.

  • think we should write pbs, the video portion only makes their special more notable...their entire series. they are foolish, this is a great commercial for their music specials....the song couldn't be more soulful, the video, and circumstances takes it a little deeper into the heart....will listen 2 or 3 more times...then bed. what a perfect way to end an evening.

  • man what a song its just beautiful i thought you had a live video of these two singing

  • This song can make you cry with it's soulful sound and just the realness of the words....He held her hand because she had not performed in a long time...and yes it was her last performance...

  • I hadnt heard this song for maybe, over twenty years or more, until one night I was in a restaurant and it struck me still. I always loved it, but this time is was left motionless by its beauty. I never realized before just how simple, sweet and even painfully sad it was. At the time, I had been left lonely often by my finance (who is no longer). So sad Betty died. Love to have heard them sing in person. Jerry, Betty and this song is one of life's rare & BEAUTIFUL BLESSINGS! THANKS!

  • It's sad they pulled the PBS special video off You Tube where they appear together. I cried when I saw, many times. They are so comfortable with each other, she starts strong, and he gives it right back to her, but they sound beautiful and it's so sweet when he asks her to dance. I read she was ill at this time, and gave it her all, and she passed shortly after. The Iceman is the real "torch-bearer" for that generation and looks and sounds great today. Thank You Jerry.
  • Thank you Betty you did give it your all while you were ravaged with pain from Cancer! Did you ever see how he is looking at her during that special? It was her last live performance!

  • Sincerelly Thank you Jerry.

Thank you Betty.. Wherever in heaven you may be. I never got to meet you but you certainly game the gift of your songs.

  • First time I've heard this version. Love the song. Love this interpretation. Thanks.

  • One of greatest duets in music history.

Jerry and Betty sound so good together

  • i wish i was born in there era, you cant compare the music then and now

  • @gyspygrl71

I Still Can't Understand how rap took over when there was Perfection such as this to learn from! I Just Can't Wrap My Head Around Why Anyone Would Step Over Dollar's Looking For dimes!

    It Just Doesn't Compute!!!!!

  • The music sceen today, could use more of these two and the sound they had.

  • Betty was a beautiful singer, of course Jerry is the man. RIP Betty

  • Beautiful just Beautiful- This was Betty's last public performance. R.I.P Betty

  • The Iceman Cometh & Ms. Betty Everett...it doesn't get any better than this.

    Thanks:D

  • Gotta love the old school doo wop...uh-huh

  • how about the Doo-wop of Jerry & Betty ??

  • Simply heavenly. Thanks for posting. They do not make singers like these anymore.

  • one of my favorites.

  • simply divine

  • shown on pbs doo wop series she passed away soon after this performance

  • Incredible song! I grew up in the 70's and my mom used to play this all the time.

    I love it!!!!

  • My girlfriend and I sang this at a kareoke bar in San Diego.

  • That is so wonderful.

  • My girlfreind and I sang this song at a karoke place.

  • How Beautiful! It's romantic, dreamy and hopeful. I just love this song.

  • This is a nice song I could sing this to the most beautiful girl in the world.

  • Another classic from the oldies era. I may not have been around back in the 60's when this was first out but I was raised on music like this and have grown to appreciate it just as much as those in the generation before me.
