the four idiots who "disliked" this are obviously devoid of a heart (not to mention taste). Idiots! One of the, if not THE, most beautiful songs ever recorded.
The tears are just rolling down my face right now....the flood of memories that just took over and i didn't expect this reaction when i came to this song. Wow....good music is so powerful.
one of the most beautiul song,s eveer sung. Betty evert was an angle in human form her voice was classic as well as her. Jerry butler is a gifted and tanleted prefomer/ What a gift God gave to the world when he gave them and other,s. Their muscial talnet and vocie,s.
I have a copy of the PBS broadcast of Jerry & Betty singing this classic. He held her hand the whole time and you could tell, it was for support amidst a delicate situation. They looked into each others eyes several times and his look said, "No need to fear, I am with you". What a special moment! It is Doo Wop 51 recorded in 2000 in Pittsburgh Pa.
Betty was I'll when she sang this duet. What an Angel. I read your comment to know that this earth will alway have great people who can love and love great music.
@vinkleman... I agree - it don't matter who you are, when you hear this music, for a moment all is right in the world! Rest in precious peace, Betty... singing with the angels in RocknRoll Heaven! There is none better...
I agree with the previous comments, I also so the live performance on PBS, what a special moment, between the two of them. We just don't see or hear people sing like that anymore. Betty we miss you. I go see Jerry live when ever he's in my area. Iceman cometh again.
I keep checking back in hopes that PBS would release the video of the wonderful performance... but no.... PBS wake up and smell the roses. This leaves a bitter taste in my mouth - I will find it very difficult to give money in the future.
The video of the dance is one of the most wonderful moments in the music of my generation. It is sad it cannot be shared on youtube. There are some things that transcend copyrights and royalties. One other is the Grand Ole Opry tribute to Minne Pearl, where the entire cast and audience sing "May the Circle be unbroken" as people bring flowers to the stage. It has disappeared.
this song tear my heart to pieces with memories...those were the BEST days of my life, wish i could back the hands of time and stay 4ever young....bless you all.

@dogcat126 I have dreamed of meeting Jerry Butler! I always look to see if he does any tours or surpirse shows. I would give anything to meet him. Good for you. What an experience I bet it was.
I had watch this video and this was the last time I saw betty everett.. She was sick and in poor health when this show was taken but she did it... It was a special nite and Jerry and Betty did their last dance together .. I was so touching...... Beautiful done......
thanks to wqed bringing all these doo wop shows thanks ej from my heart brings back so many memories bad sad happy does anyone have the song where they dance together brings tears as i think of so many great singers GOD as in his group it will be 14 years tomorrow we lost daddy and 28 years mom in july AFTER PLAYING FOR KEEPS THIS WAS THEIR FAVORITE SONG
@tropicalbaby5 I remember that. Sadly they took the video off for some reason. It was truly the best version. As they are singing in between words Jerry says to her "Shall we dance". That video was the best. I wish someday they would decide to repost it.
This was song at my wedding 29 years ago. It still resonates in my spirit. We are still together with lots of ups and downs but with few regrets. That was a great era to be born into we had the best music. Jerry is still the bomb!!! Faby2Love

My 14 yr old granddaughter is special to me. I let her hear this and told her that we should record it so when I was long gone, she could listen and think "that was my papaw and me". I am almost deaf and she had to read the words while we were singing. We definitely are NOT Jerry and Betty, but all considered, it came out very good. She recorded it on her cell phone, and we did not practice the song--had never sang together.
JERRY BUTLER WAS SO GENTLE WITH BETTY THIS NIGHT ON PBS. I KNEW SHE WAS VERY ILL, AND DYING. YOU COULD JUST SEE IT. I AGREE ABOUT HOW THEY LOOKED AT EACH OTHER. I CRIED======R.I.P. BEAUTIFUL LADY

I'm a 54 yr. old biker but when Jerry comes in at 1:00 i got goosebumps up my hairy, tattooed arms. What beauty.....a classic tune for ANY generation that's hip to what good music can, and should, be.
I lived through the 50's and 60's. I have often told my sons that I wish there was a time machine, so I could take them back to my time and let them see how it was. Betty was sick and dying, when she performed this on PBS with Jerry. Men don't cry--yeah--right! I did when they sang it for the last time.
@wasadoc - man I saw that special and u cud tell Ms. Betty was sick but she gave her all and Comm. Butler really helped her. It was a beautiful moment. No I didnt cry....muchlol
Does anyone know the exact name of the PBS DVD this was on so I can order it? I would love to see them dance one more time. The greatest due in history
Betty and Jerry are so great on this. Their harmony is incredible and the orchestration so haunting, it just gets to me. Their performance on the doowop series on PBS was the highlight. It really is so sad how shortly Betty passed away after it. Thank God we have that wonderful dvd set from PBS to watch over and over.
@6fthook Congratulations.. my birthday is the 8th, I was moved at the tender thoughts of this being your wedding song.. may you have and abundance of loved filled years to come.. unfortunately (deep sigh..) mine is ending after over 20yr.s..but life goes on right :) Be Blessed
I bought a DVD series of DooWap from a local PBS station and this song is on there...I had never heard them much less got to see them sing it....what a treasure...I luv it...their performance was very moving..the subtle interaction between them was touching as I listened to their individual sections and of course their harmonies....a classic!!!
The day they did this song Betty was not feeling so good, and the way they looked at each other acting out the song was so beautiful. I have this video and believe me it made me cry it is so touching ,it is a must see. R.I.P. Betty
@YOLI588 I cried when I saw it, too. I found out form inside sources that Betty knew she was dying, and so did Jerry... you can tell by looking at their faces during the performance that they both knew this was the last time they would sing together. I sobbed for an hour after that.
I'am so sad that a tresure like this can not shared by everbody. I know someone has a copy of it live. You should share it. In the history of music there's a very few song's song like this.
According to Rhino Records, the distributor for all PBS recordings like the Doo Wop series, you can only get a physical DVD copy (whatever that means) through a local PBS station now, which I assume means making a considerable donation (I donated $125 at the time). So you might try calling Rhino, or your local PBS station, if you feel like ponying up some big dollars to get it. Let It Be Me is on DooWoop 51 DVD. Good luck!
Can somebody tell me how to get the video? I just bought the Doo wop collection from timelife. What a fiasco. This song isn't there. I'm serching on the internet and found the 2 DVD live performance aired for PBS but this song isn't there eaither. Can someone help me? This is a special song that My husband and I choose to be our song when we were in a difficult time. Thanks.
think we should write pbs, the video portion only makes their special more notable...their entire series. they are foolish, this is a great commercial for their music specials....the song couldn't be more soulful, the video, and circumstances takes it a little deeper into the heart....will listen 2 or 3 more times...then bed. what a perfect way to end an evening.
This song can make you cry with it's soulful sound and just the realness of the words....He held her hand because she had not performed in a long time...and yes it was her last performance...
I hadnt heard this song for maybe, over twenty years or more, until one night I was in a restaurant and it struck me still. I always loved it, but this time is was left motionless by its beauty. I never realized before just how simple, sweet and even painfully sad it was. At the time, I had been left lonely often by my finance (who is no longer). So sad Betty died. Love to have heard them sing in person. Jerry, Betty and this song is one of life's rare & BEAUTIFUL BLESSINGS! THANKS!
It's sad they pulled the PBS special video off You Tube where they appear together. I cried when I saw, many times. They are so comfortable with each other, she starts strong, and he gives it right back to her, but they sound beautiful and it's so sweet when he asks her to dance. I read she was ill at this time, and gave it her all, and she passed shortly after. The Iceman is the real "torch-bearer" for that generation and looks and sounds great today. Thank You Jerry.
Thank you Betty you did give it your all while you were ravaged with pain from Cancer! Did you ever see how he is looking at her during that special? It was her last live performance!
I Still Can't Understand how rap took over when there was Perfection such as this to learn from! I Just Can't Wrap My Head Around Why Anyone Would Step Over Dollar's Looking For dimes!
Another classic from the oldies era. I may not have been around back in the 60's when this was first out but I was raised on music like this and have grown to appreciate it just as much as those in the generation before me.

think we should write pbs, the video portion only makes their special more notable...their entire series. they are foolish, this is a great commercial for their music specials....the song couldn't be more soulful, the video, and circumstances takes it a little deeper into the heart....will listen 2 or 3 more times...then bed. what a perfect way to end an evening.

THANKS!

Another classic from the oldies era. I may not have been around back in the 60's when this was first out but I was raised on music like this and have grown to appreciate it just as much as those in the generation before me.
