• Wish I understood myself as well as Trent does. good stuff.

  • No I'm married, so its only in my dreams, I've loved Trent from back in the 80s. Hahaha.. I wouldn't care if he was rich. Your retarded. My infatuation is just him as an artist. He is an amazing artist, composer. There is no one else that holds a candle next to his abilities. So before you label me a slut, don't judge people you don't know. Kiddo.

  • fuck yes trent. we love you. keep it up. don't rush art :)

  • He doesn't have to do shit and he would still fucking rock!

  • I fucking love this interviewer! :D

  • @FixedSteel HAHA! great one!

  • the music was better when he wasnt sober. Get back on drugs Trent! give us some goods!

  • if u listen 2 "Ghosts", its very similar 2 both Dragon Tattoo, and Social Network

  • I wonder why he chose Tavis Smiley over someone like Letterman?

  • @FixedSteel LOL thats awesome

  • @90210Markymark He actually does say he is grateful for being able to amke a living doing music in this interview. How did you miss that?

  • TR: No, Tavis. This subject matter is now diametrically opposed to what Nine Inch Nails is about. Ergo, I feel that having matured for the past 24 years, - and regardless of it’s artistic value or symbolic representations - at this point, it’s highly unlikely I could incorporate “fist fuck” into the lyrical content in a way that’s not only complementary to the music, but also to a degree that listeners could find accommodating.

  • its interesting...trent talks of all the fear and self-loathing he went through...and yet, could "hurt" or anything that is so uniquely his have been written if he were a less neurotic person? is it wrong for the world to in a way benefit from him suffering?

  • No matter his age, his voice still sounds like that of a man in his 20's. He's still damn handsome too.

  • @FixedSteel im so sick and tired of people making stupid , copied comments

  • so Trent Reznor went from a rock star to a film composer...

I dread the day when Justin Beiber wins an oscar for this too...

  • I have so much respect for Tavis Smiley. I've never heard of him before this interview but he asked some of the most eloquently put questions I've ever heard from interviewers nowadays. He asked, he listened, and he created new questions based on the answers he was given- in short, he was *listening*. How is it that an interviewer who listens to his guests comes as a refreshening surprise? Great interview. I love trent.

  • @suncancer It's on PBS i think around the same time as Jay Leno ............ Trent is a musical Savant. Poor Tavis has no idea how great trent is and what all he has done in his career

  • Trent Reznor reminds me of a ginger. but without the ginger.

  • People say my music sounds almost like trent's check it out at Systemsfall.bandcamp.com or just search "systemsfall" on YouTube

  • finally intelligent interviewers, mature themes.. look where Trent has gotten.. he didnt deserve any less :) glad hes over the worst time of his life (just feel bad because there wont be another downward spiral :()

  • I've been watching interviews with Trent for a long time, and this is a great one, not just because it's Trent divulging some great, eloquent answers and information, but also because the interviewer (Tavis) is fantastic. He's respectful, interested, and doesn't try to exploit Trent's past and focus on drugs and self pity. With this guy and Charlie Rose I just want to say: PBS, you're doing it right.

  • Sexxxayy :)

  • GREAT interviewer!!!! Love Trent!

  • tavis asks a question and then has the intelligence to shut the fuck up

  • God I remember when Trent was doing the music for the game Quake, he's done so much in his life. What a talented artist.

  • This is an awesome interview. I really like how honest he is about himself.

  • Love him to have sex with me.

  • Good looking man right there..

  • never heard of this talk host until now. i agree with the 2nd top comment. He's really good, asks the right questions and lets the person speak.

  • @90210Markymark Whats your fuckin deal? What have you given our species? Your lucky you can contribute your opinion let alone your offspring, asshat

  • How nice to be able to take "a year or so" off to "think things over". Given that about 1 in 5 Americans is either unemployed (official government numbers) or unemployed and have given up trying to find a job (the true numbers).

  • @OroborusFMA idiot. he's a genius not a waster.

  • @OroborusFMA Yea, he's worked his ass off to get here for 25 years. Don't impose your insecurities and jealousy on someone not only intelligent but talented enough to create a successful career for himself.

  • I just love him.. his music truly saved me from myself.

  • Tavis did a great job interviewing Trent and his questions were well thought out. Don't understand the haters.

  • Danny Elfman, decades ago. That is all!

  • @N1Njaclaws Yeah! Lets be cynics! Mozart made great music way back, so why bother with great modern music.

  • @ Resurrected2011

The Chemical Brothers did not score Fight Club. It was The Dust Brothers. Get your info straight before slipping skittles into high school girls' zimas at the football after-parties, ya fkn loser :D

  • tavis is a dull boring nigger

  • @dinoflagellate111111 you're racist.

  • wow Social Network looks so terrible !!! Eisen-smthng is a good actor and all, but what a piece of garbage this looks like ! My first look at it actually...

  • wow i had been told that social network was a great film but NIN doing the soundtrack ? ...i must see it now

  • I kinda wish Trent would've composed Fight Club... wonder how different the feel of the film would be.

  • @xodis911

The Chemical Brothers did a GREAT job on fight club

Trent is a genius in the music industry, but Fight Club had it's own unique soundtrack that stands out well enough. Fincher knows who to choose for his music.

  • @HikerTrent Is that a line from the Hikers in the Pokémon games?

  • Omg Trent is sexy I wanna bang him so hard my v jj gets swollen shut

  • @IHeartGasMasks from the sounds of your comment it will be swollen shut from all the guys you bang daily anyway

sorry I hope I was not mean I just hate sluts who bang people because there famous or have money.

  • he talks exactly how he sings

  • TRENT IS SEXYYYYYYYYY! His voice makes meh horny ;3

  • look at that guys fucked up facial expression at 5:14

  • Is that the guy from American Pickers??

  • I didnt like the social network either ... or the soundtrack - what he did with Lynch was far far better and before that cover of joy divisions, " Dead Souls " for the Crow and , " Burn " for Natural Born Killers..

  • Trent looks tired...

  • Trent has such a soothing voice. He should narrate audio books.

  • Couldn't give a shit about that movie but Trent Reznor is cool.

  • I sometimes wonder what would happen if his relationship does not go well in the future. We would probably receive something far more vicious and disillusioned than the concept of The Downward Spiral.

  • @Reptilectricful One can only hope.... his best music was the 90s... just because he was more insecure then doesnt detract from what he did up until the awful song deep , and then onto fraggle rock

  • I still prefer the soundtrack to Quake.

  • *hugs for Trent*

    You're the man, dude :)

  • Trent Reznor your my hero! Keep it up bro!!

  • he is a good interviewer !!!!!

    Trent is awesome

  • @beowulven Fuck YOU!

  • @Sam5726

    Er, no.

  • I love when an interviewer really lets someone talk. It's great to hear him talk and think out loud.

  • @StLennyBruce lol you should see Dave Navarro host an interview for the COMPLETE OPPOSITE

  • Someone saw the movie? how many Stars ?

  • "trent reznor, the frontman for Nine Inch Nails" he says.....he IS Nine Inch Nails lol

  • trent got married !! ??

  • @darkestdays11 Yes! Its the chick from How to Destroy Angels, his second band. Shes the singer, and his wife.

  • @TheAPC91 ohh wow...then shes pretty ! wooo.. i diddnt even know that ...and i love that band too

  • @darkestdays11 not yet

  • he reminds me of kevin moore. They both look similar and produce similar music (except kevin doesn't make as dark sounding songs)

  • why does no one ever talk about atticus ross? WHO IS HE

  • @joshwashposh he does music for vidya gaemz

  • Trent indeed has a very sexy voice

  • I love this interview and love watching interviews by tavis smiley.

  • He looks really...stiff? (Trent) :/

  • Lol well no but if you wanna say it is, then ok?

  • I love this man. Yea, you may love visceral, dynamic reactions of guitar mechanics and it's aesthetic appeal. It's much more about the artistic lyrics and unique music which makes it interesting.

  • NIN = musical genius

  • Poor Trent having to put up with such bullshit they have always shunned him at award shows even though no one else could even touch him talent wise when it comes to music.. I can't even believe it is as though he doesn't even recognize that in himself..If he only knew _^j^_

  • he is an extremely talented person. as a guitarist, i'd love to shake his hand.

  • I think Trent looks like the Punisher

  • HE IS GOD

  • What a dull interviewer , some interesting stuff from Reznor but always feels like he's in charge not the other guy.

Can't help but think Reznors music was deeper darker and dare I saw it better when he had all the issues.

  • Tavis is a very clever guy as well and does his research. You can bet there`s nothing he didn`t know about Trent Reznor when he started this interview.I`m a long time NIN fan,and it`s cool to see Trent back on the scene in a big way.Way to go.

  • interviewers ask the stupidest question, and it makes for the most boring interviews. Honestly, i think interviews are stupid, and pointless.

  • @illuminatijews then never watch them again, and leave the people who genuinely enjoy them the alone. Please.

  • @illuminatijews become a good interviewer

  • lolwtf is this interview. Old black dude interviewing Trent Reznor. xD

  • @RpgExposition Go fuck yourself

  • @ryanfoley123 And why on earth should I do that? All I meant is that I have a pretty good feeling that he had NEVER heard of Trent before this.

  • @RpgExposition Why does his race have anything to do with it? I'm black & I have every "Halo", I've seen NIN in concert 4 times & have a nine inch nails tattoo on my wrist. So what does Tavis being black have anything to do with him interviewing him again? Incase you didn't realize it, black people listen to nine inch nails as well. MKAY? THANKS!

  • @HelloJennyification K?

All I meant was the dude in general, his age and yes his race.

  • @RpgExposition You think because he's black he doesn't know anything about Trent or nin? It's called research, honey. Do yours and you wont sound so ignorant in the future. Peace & Love.

  • @HelloJennyification K, I meant personally before he had to do the interview. I wasn't referring to his career.

  • @HelloJennyification You sir, made my day. Its people like you that help me remember blacks can actually talk without sounding ghetto. you are well spoken, and have an exellent taste in music. Im not at all racist but i think the black community has room to improve and act a little more professional, like you do. Its a shame that a decent amount of blacks have to be brought up in ghettos and pretty much forced to live a life filled with crime around them.

  • Travis Smiley is a fantastic interviewer

  • @HelloJennyification im guessing thats "mkay" is from south park, right?

  • @HelloJennyification Because black people don't know anything about
good music
• @Metal404Head Sevendust? Bigot.

  • @Sonorous1 I said "Good music"

  • @Metal404Head u serious

  • @dArKeNtiTy92 i is so srs

  • @Metal404Head You're probably, like every other fuckhead, judging based solely on rap. Ignorant dickhead.

  • @HelloJennyification I agree. I'm also black and a big fan of rock/metal music and hope to get into the music career soon. The color of your skin shouldn't have anything to do with what type of music you like.

  • @HelloJennyification right dont listen to that idiot. whats funny most dont think about is rock music evolved from jazz music (a black invention). Rock probably wouldnt exist if it wasnt for the advent of jazz. I love to think about that everytime some hardcore rocker cracker is jamming out and dissing black people. xD

  • @RpgExposition do you spend most of your time "Role Playing Games" oh wait Exposition your just dumb like every interview you ever watch hasn't been scripted? Let me dig deep inside your brain to help you out...

Thank You.. Have you ever heard of the suspension of disbelief? Google it and tell me that your Unaware of your carelessness. wait this is for your benefit

  • @W2R3J Hey cunt, all I said was that he had probably never heard of him. I never said anything about the fucking questions or script. Now as ryanfoley123 told me, "Go fuck yourself"

  • @RpgExposition Big words - little hands you kiddie litter blunderbuss - So I got to you that is good.

But you should be careful using Hey C you N t, and quoting "go if you see kayo yourself " you lost -

go goodwill hunting and lose your etherealness

  • @W2R3J K

  • @RpgExposition - Tavis Smiley is one year older than Trent Reznor so if you consider him old, than you're also insulting TR

  • @ladymoonage K. And while do I feel like your name is a reference to Bowie?

  • trent fucking reznor. so far one of the best composer.

  • Hope the band goes back on tour and plays all of their biggest songs... Every Day Is Exactly the Same, Hurt, Something I Can Never Have, Terrible Lie and many more!!!

  • Trent - fucking legend!

  • It would be good about now if Trent made some new material for NIN.

  • @FinalConflict99 I'd say we should give hiim more time, and that if we wait long enough, the time he think its necessary, we wont be disappointed!!! I mean, the guy is a genious, lets trust in him!

  • I have always liked the scores to Fincher's films. Fight Club, Seven, The Social Network, and more. There is a great deal of similarity between the Fight Club score done by The Dust Brothers and The Social Network score and they are both great. Trent is an amazing musician and a true visionary.

  • i've heard negative things about his personality, but one can only speculate... i really liked his works from his start all through the 90s, capped off by one of my favorite albums ever, The Fragile. ive heard he doesnt like it anymore which i think is absurd.

  • @aphexaic3213 the reason trent does not like the fragile is because it brings a dark time in his life especially the song la mer it was a suicide song he wanted to kill himself thats why its not his best memory on that album.

  • Trent is a poser and a fraud.

  • @issaacgooser Actually, Trent is one of the best musicians to grace the music scene. He records everything by himself, with the exception of the drums on With Teeth. He has a certain tone that other artists cannon grasp, originality. And best of all, he has aspergers.

  • he's golden

  • Love this dude

  • I love Trent,,,,I have grown with him and NIN,

  • Great interview. Trents a clever man. Love the social network sound track. Deep, reflective and brooding. Very much like the dark trip hop groups Massive Attack, Portishead,Tricky, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Amon Tobin, Unkle, Allflaws

  • Great interview. Interesting dialogue on both sides

  • Interesting interviewer. I like his questions to Trent.

  • he looks like hes thinking, "meh" before the interview starts :P

  • I also like him as a person, he is very intelligent and not brainwashed and he is independent and very talented in his trade and also a good hearted person (like when he raised 800,000 dollars for that heart transplant) I mean damn the list goes on.

  • I'm happy for Trent man, crawling out of the whole and gaining more confidence in himself. YOU ARE AWESOME TRENT, YOU INSPIRE ME!! I honestly can't say I know how it is, (Trent's past) but I just love his music, it's sooo original and soothing and exciting and inspiring and contravercial all in one. I LOVE IT AND CAN"T GET ENOUGH!!

  • @netiaz And listen to yourself you ass kisser. =)

  • Very interesting and intelligent answers. I remember reading he really wanted to work w/movie scores a while ago, like it was a true goal...

  • I heard a story about Reznor n his buddies taking Manson out into the middle of nowhere, stripping him naked, blindfolding him and letting him find his way back. This was apparently right b4 Manson got big.

Ne body else heard that story?

  • Or maybe he should do whatever the fuck he wants.

  • No offense but Trent is getting very BORING! He's no longer amusing, unpredictable, and interesting like he use to be. And by the way why is he making music for that crappy corny Facebook movie? He should get involved and make music for a better Indie movie which would suit him better.

  • @RussX5Z thanks! i agree. except i don't care about offending nin fans. they do all but suck his peen.

  • @RussX5Z You mean he's growing the fuck up? Yep. Perhaps you should do the same. He's very interesting and well-spoken (as per usual) and I always like hearing about his creative process and what his mindset was, especially being an artist myself.

  • @RussX5Z you thought this was kind of boring too? i also dont think it matters what movie hes making music for as long as he got recognition for it (not that he really needed it if you know what i mean, i would thing being in NIN would be enough for me) im alright with it , also he said he was sober so maybe thats why hes ZZZzzzZZZzzzzz but who cares id rather hear a boring trent reznor than another lame but lively celeb or star fucker

  • Trent, I love you, buddy, BUT WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR NECK?

  • @teak43 ROIDS

  • Tavis Smiley is a great interviewer. Just saying.

  • My favorite composer has reached the top of the mountain.

Congrats on baby, wife and awards proud of you.

  • i am speechless. my mom told me not to say anything if I have nothing nice to say. well fuck that.

trent looks horrible, sounds like he is sucking for the man of hollywood now beasts. keep on suckling the teet of hypocrisy.

  • @geetbeet Are you an 8th grader?

  • @geetbeet Are you an 8th grader?

  • Daaayum! Can he possibly get any more synthesizers @ 8:10

  • He's gotten married and he's gotten kind of fat like the typical husband. But nonetheless, I have so much respect and admiration for Trent. He truly is a musical genius. I'm glad he won the Oscar. Who ever knew that his work would get the recognition and be paid off in the film industry.

  • I'd like to learn more about Atticus Ross. He worked with trent on this and the ghosts album.

  • Does anyone care about this has been?

  • @TheEnchantedivy Has been? Clearly a lot of people care, does anyone care about you?

  • how old is trent?

  • @nigafigya 45

  • I love NIN i have my own solo music thing im trying and trent is my big inspiration im not the best in the world but could i have other peoples opinion on it? its at myspace /rankoffall

  • @signmet

Dude, you stuff is actually pretty cool. Not long enough, but pretty cool. I like it! You've got my props and respect. Keep going, dude!

  • wow.

  • Maturity, sobriety, intelligence, talent, truthfulness, it's always interesting to hear Trent's creative process.

  • @charlieandrosie he is not sober.
