  • I always see these in new Mexico in the spring

  • there's a lot of them in the south and south west of France, nice video, because the last one I saw .. couldn't make a picture of it. :o)

  • omg i thought that was a hummingbirf

  • I saw one in Porto Santo Island, Madeira but had never seen anything like it before - I live in Scotland

  • its a white lined sphinx moth. they are common.

  • I saw one just a couple of days ago, just like this one, in a s mall town in Germany, just on the borders of Switzerland. It was collecting nectar from an azalea. My husband and I marveled at it because we had never seen one before and when I got home, I just had to find out what it was. It is a hummingbird hawk moth.

  • These things clearly like petunias. I saw one yesterday for the first time ever, and it was happily roaming among my mother's petunias.

I am near Vancouver, Canada. Where have the rest of you seen these crazy big bugs?

  • great video of the hummingbird moth

  • We had our first one tonight in my petunias!

  • i just saw one and wondered what it was called

  • i saw one in my front yard

  • It's larvae is the tomato hornworm!

  • @Iconoclast444 The tomato hornworm is the larval stage of the Hawk Moth, NOT the HUMMINGBIRD Hawk Moth or Hummingbird Moth.

  • @BlueSabb My bad...

  • First time I saw one I thought killer bees! Started asking around and someone said it was this. Glad of that. They are so interesting to watch in my flowers.

  • saw one of these on the porch the other day, scared the shit outta me!!

  • I saw one the other day for the first time. I wasn't sure what it was.

  • I caught one and it is freaking awesome... I let him out in my room and then he comes back to me like a pet, he is epic

  • Coolest bug on this planet

  • That Moth is a spy.

  • I had a red one that would come around my yard at night. It creeped me out!

  • This is obviously a pokemon!!!

  • Humming bird month, me and my mother just seen one today in her flower garden.

  • We learned about that in my Biochem class they can poop in the direction of predators. ha ha they showed us it was crazy!!!

  • what a fugly bug

  • when i was at the dragstrip by my brothers house one of these flew into my face and i had no idea what it was. people kept telling me it was a hummingbird but it was actually one of these. they're cool!!

  • I like how its not shy

  • It's a Sphinx moth the one that was around me last year was bigger than the humming birds lol

  • we had these last year in Memphs, coming to the 4-oclocks (bright yellow ad pink flowers) at sundown.

  • Cool, we saw these at a beach in croatia. They were zooming around though and hard to get a photo of. Cool to know what they're called. Check out earth hour: moths

  • Damn if I didn't know any better, I would swear this was a hummingbird. I didn't know there were moths like this O_O

  • i saw one n i was about a foot maybe of catching it

  • Hummingbird + moth = this

  • they are so cool looking! I saw 4 of them at 1 time on a single butterfly bush in Oregon ^_^

  • It is a moth. It just has a long mouth like the beek of a humming bird. It is called the same as your video's title "hummingbird moth". Look it up in wikipedia.

  • years ago as a kid back in ohio i netted one. before catching it, we all thought it was a hummingbird. found a sphinx moth (thats what is in your video) last night and brought it in for my my indoor cats to chase. not sure where it went, LOL! its here somewhere. it seems so much smaller in size now that i'm an adult.

  • danm!! that is so cool!!

  • WOW!!!!!!!!

  • Just saw some of these in our newly started butterfly garden at dusk.

  • It is a Humbee - look it up - I have them here in Ottawa Ontario Canada

  • It's a white-lined sphynx moth. Also known as Hummingbird Moths.

  • its a tomato worm moth aka a carolina moth

  • theyre speaking swedish, i guess

  • just now i was outside and i saw a red one the size of my hand. If you didn't know what they were it would freak you out for sure!!

  • I saw one of these 2night at my house and had no idea what it was

  • I just saw one in my backyard! I was confused

  • great video shot. I was wondering what kind of insect it was since we have seen them feeding on our flowers

  • no it is not it is a hummingbird moth.

  • or a hummingbird sphynx moth

  • While we're mentioning hummingbirds, they're is also a species within "hawk moths" that look almost identical to hummingbirds, known as (surprise, surprise) "hummingbird moth's".

And I absolutely agree with that you should always learn something new everyday

  • i saw this little Macroglossum stellatarum when i was a child!!! i thought some kind of butterfly

  • @FluffyPonBomb good one troll.

  • @jayoori1 It's true, dumbass. Google it.

  • weird question, but what language are you speaking in the vid?

  • They are called Hawk Moths. We had one two days ago and thought it was so cool how a hummingbird could be so small, so we looked it up. The tip-off for me were the antennae sprouting from its head. EW! Look up the hawk moth, they are actually kind of cool.

  • I guess there is an evolutionary advantage to appear as a Hummingbird...not sure exactly what that would be though....its not as if they are very threatening creatures...Most animals mimic deadly &/or poisonious animals to keep predators away...but some Predators also mimic there own prey, so as to easily get close to them....For instance my species mimics Humans, so as to....whoops Ive said too much...Nevermind that last bit.

  • It's abdomen creeps me out!

  • @JRONII ur face creeps me out

  • @jayoori1 hmmm...that's a good one

  • they suck if you grow tomatoes their larvae are devastating!

  • Not a bird or a fly, its a POKEMON!

  • we get a lot of those here in nebraska, too

  • Scary!

  • Its a baby taradactyl. They are rare.

  • go in wikipedia and search for hummingbird moth. there's a page of it. i saw these in a documentary on tv once. curious creatures, don't you think?

  • These little critters are all over the big State of Texas. They come in various

colors and sizes. Three types are:Hummingbird Clearwing, White-Lined Sphinx moth and Hermit Sphinx moth. They do not bite or harm anything or anyone. I have caught many and rescued several.

  • nature is so amazing, how can this thing be so like a hummingbird? did a moth and a bird have a baby?

What country is this in btw? thanks for sharing and educating me. At 33, nature still has wonders for me to discover!

  • it is kinda pretty but kinda hitious too

  • I saw one of those in my back yard and barely caught a still photo of it. It's great to this on video!

  • i see hummingbird moths all the time at night. the ones i get are extremely wild. you need to shoot them down with a really strong flashlight. they go crazy if you try to catch them with a net!!

  • That is a Bedstraw Hawkmoth. I know that cause they speak Swedish and there's no other moth in Sweden that looks like that.

In Swedish it's called "Brunsprötad Skymningssvärmare".

  • The Nature body of it is just simly amazing.

  • ever heard of a chicken moth?

  • This insect (green) took an afternoon by our window. We thought it was a hummingbird and said Luck! as here we say it brings luck and money, but do not believe it. Our son Julian had two or three years old and the insects began to attack because he wanted to touch it. With my wife immediately started trying to remove it with a almoadones. My son screamed scared not understand why you "pegábamos" with the cushions.

  • And we began to scream in fright. We stayed there for several minutes-of-endless terror. Then I realized it was a bug and not a bird. More screaming! Then the flying bug went whizzing by the window. Julían cried a lot after that. But soon he understood and then we laughed non-stop three long. Never before have we had seen. And that which is common in our province ...

Y nosotros comenzamos a gritar asustados.

  • Comment removed

  • y think the scientific name is Sphingidae

  • It's very cute

  • Ignorance abounds: Hummingbird moth have no stingers only anntenae delbert.

  • I guess you know these things have a horrible sting and they can be very aggressive if disturbed

  • Wow Ive never heard of these.

  • Looks like a sphinx moth to me.

  • Well in 37 years I've never seen one of these until tonight. Pretty neat looking. You think it's a big bumblebee, then you think it's a baby hummingbird, and then you jump on google to see what it is.

  • Agrius convulvuli

  • I just got a couple baby moon flower plants that I hope to attract Sphynx Moths in California. I hope they come cause we used to see them every summer in Kansas :D

  • I just saw one of these flying around our honeysuckle today. I had never seen anything like it! It was freaky! It looked exactly like a hummingbird until I saw it from behind. From the side it's hard to tell unless you get closer.

  • That was great! There were a few shots where I could see the antenna and make it out fairly well. Thank you for the video!
