  • When was this filmed?

  • Thermobarics replaced these

  • Whoever built the first grain silo invented the FAE, guys

  • It was old technology when I was taught about it in 1989 at the naval explosive ordinance school. The movie they showed us about it was made in the early to mid sixties. They worked well to establish LZs but the "cheese burger" or "LZ in a can" was not FAE. Some of them were low tech- think about a propane tank with a time delay fuze in it, tank modified to rupture on impact.

  • i didnt think they still used FAE

  • @9911MU51C

Absolutely. It has been voted arguably the best for eliminating targets in confined spaces as bunkers, tunnels, buildings, etc. If you are not poisoned by the mixture itself, you are blown to bits from the explosion, and if that fails, the vacuum created from the rapid contraction of cooling gasses will rupture lungs, eyes, stomach, ears, and many other organs meaning you will either die, or be completely disabled and unable to fight

  • The fea is real and it is dropped from the f16

  • my dad designed this while at queens university during the 1980s, has nothing to do with germans, russians or americans

  • @loverofrunescape32 These have been in use since the 60's or earlier, and while your father may have created a variation or helped in designing a certain munition, he certainly didn't invent the concept.

  • Thermobaric weapons are not the same as FAE weapons. FAE weapons were developed by the U.S. to clear jungle for helicopter landing in Vietnam,

  • Fuel air bomb. Also known as FAB! As in fabulous.

  • This is the fual air bomb used in world in conflict

  • @GYSgamer No it isn't. The ones in World in Conflict were designed to mimic real fuel air bombs.

  • Oh, and people... see Jar Head when he sits and communes with the dead.... Bad day huh?

  • I still have the books on Mahatma Gandhi which I was given to read, after my experiments. I am happy somebody in America invented this stuff. Long live America. and Long Live India as well !!!

  • You know, when I was young, I used to think, why cannot we make this type of explosion, by dispersing fuel into the air and exploding them. I even tried doing it at home, heated a bottle of kerosene and I got the vapour and the white fumes started spreading and as I prepared to strike a match, it ignited even before I struck the match, I don't know how! I was kind of engulfed in a fireball and I ran for my life. I tried to sell it to the Indian Army and I was lectured on non-violence.

  • @harishkumar09 If you had tried to sell it to an Indian call center manager you would probably be rich by now.

  • thats really mean...is the eplosion "radius" big?

  • look at all the European faggots, jealous of America.

look, i get it. you dont like us because we are stronger and better than you, have better teeth and more money. ITS OK. we will feed you our table scraps like we have been for the last hundred years.

now be a good little bitch, and send your soldiers where we tell you. oh wait, you do that already.

  • america just knows to steal weapons not to create basicly she steals every think and creates nothing

  • @grktu not true and that that is stolen is usualy made so much better that its creators wouldnt recognize it

  • We need to drop a few of these on the middle east and china

  • thats a huge motherf***

  • awsome, my grandpa used to supervise these tests, he says afterwards everything is just gone, and all that is left is a huge area covered in black soot.

  • Eh wait, USA got fuel air bomb in 2001 thanks the research of some afghan scientist if i am not mistaken. Russians using them since 80s wtf...

  • @Zukhov1945 It's just American propaganda

  • good job

  • Discovered by Germans, pioneered by Russians. They have now turned Fuel Air technology into the most powerful conventional explosive.

  • Hmmmmm, in my video game these were Russian...

  • @judedAdudE77 Thats to keep things even. World In Conflict.

  • thats scary as fuck...

  • built by sperry/unisis sold to sadaam, aimed at our own troops. a buck is a buck.

  • Ahhh america, self proclaimed sherriff of the world.

  • "FAE were developed in the US"

    What a load of crap.

"The tech was sold to Iraq" (if i heard it right)

More crap. Typical American bs, they invented everything, are the best and most important in the universe.. right right.

  • @Buuub08 Sounds like someone is jealous....

get over it you fucking prick, bow to the flag before we fuck you up like we did iraq and afghanistan

And also you're too fucking stupid to realize that this is an american website and you are using the american internet and an american operating system.

  • @LamboK28992 said "bow to the flag before we fuck you up like we did iraq and afghanistan". Hahaha, seriously you are a funny guy. You know why? Cos you have had your asses handed to you in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bunch of peasents with AKs are kicking your asses all over the place, just like in Vietnam. You might have the tech but you havent got the heart. Soft flabby greedy and stupid you cant win a war anywhere in the world. Americas day is long past. Sooner you all die of obesity the better.

  • @reiver97 americas days are past....yeah thats why we have the world largest economy and you eat our food and listen to our music and wear our clothes, right?

we arent losing anything because there is nothing to lose...and we'll bomb you just like we bomb every man, woman and child towelhead sheep-fucking muslim pig in those godforsaken countries. and there is nothing you can do about it. now go buy some mcdonalds...better yet keep using the internet and supporting the american empire!

  • @LamboK28992 And?

What you fail to realize that 99% of "Americans" are immigrants, including you and me.

The fact remains FAE was NOT developed by the US but by Germany.

The technology was not "sold" to anyone as it is fairly simple and even you can make a FAE bomb without having to buy any kind of technology or equipment you couldnt legally get if youre over 18.

P.S. YT is owned by Google. Google was co-founded by a Russian, as a matter of fact.

  • @AntiSocialTroll FEA is greatly different from a molotov.

Molotov is generally a flammable mixture which is ignited and causes damage by burning.

FEA an EXPLOSIVE device (a molotov isnt). FEA mix explosives/fuel with the air and create a voluminous BLAST with speeds exceeding 3km/s. This creates extreme pressure waves of much higher duration than those of regular HE devices.

FEA isnt a fireball, its an explosive device, where as a molotov is an incendiary device. Completely different.

  • Comment removed

  • @AntiSocialTroll by the sound of it you have never used a molotov.

There is no blast from a molotov. The bottle breaks, the liquid squirts and the fuze ignites it. The mix lacks oxygen and only the oxygen exposed parts burn. This is why you can have a glass of petrol and only the top will slowly burn away. In fact only the vapor burns and only if sufficient oxygen is present. You cant make a molotov explode even if you want to. Even car gas tanks explode only in movies. No oxy = no boom.

  • For something to explode it needs to have the optimum oxygen balance for a sustained chain reaction to take place. A molotov does to provide the necessary burst prior ignition for the fuel to mix with the air at the proper ratio. A molotov just burns away whenever it gets some oxygen and when it lacks some (sealed room) the fire just dies. A FAE on the other hand creates the optimal mix before the detonation and then all the fuel reacts instantly creating a supersonic blast, not a 20min burn.

  • /watch?v=j9xCgNdZPKk

    /watch?v=E-2tA40QZzk

Do those look the same for you?

I mean, even a chimp can tell which one actually detonates and which one is just an improvised incendiary device.

The FEA makes no fireball, it only happens when there is a lack of oxygen (or when it has an intended incendiary component like aluminum). In a perfect scenario ALL of the fuel reacts instantly thus maximizing the blast effect - NO FIRE.

A molotov is made to BURN things for a while not to blow them up.

  • Comment removed

  • @AntiSocialTroll Jeez you still dont get it.

The mechanic of both is ENTIRELY different.

FEA is an EXPLOSION. An explosion is when supersonic combustion takes place and thus the surrounding air gets compressed - creating a blast wave.

Molotov is an incendiary device, it involves NO explosions or supersonic combustion.

The only common thing both have is that both use flammable elements.

The mechanic, effects and forces involved are entirely different.

  • Saying that both are the same because they both have igniting fuel and thus resemble an internal combustion engine is downright idiotic. EVERYTHING that burns resembles the same action - fuel burning. That doesnt mean the weapons are the same.

Molotovs dont create any blasts, no compression no nothing but igniting fuel vapor just like if you pour some on the floor and set on fire. You can run faster than fuel burns in normal conditions thus it doesnt even qualify as explosive of any kind.

  • Comment removed

  • @Buuub08 Look, phuckheed. FAExplosion is a result of all three elements in combination. Molotov uses the same elements. Supersonic combustion is a reaction measurement not recognising combustion of an incendiary agent is retarded. The second the bottle breaks, the fluid catches alight you get combustion. Just because it is not captured by your eyes well enough does not mean it does not occur. Get a high rate of capture video recorder, the highest digital capture per second and watch fact.

  • @AntiSocialTroll At what point i was not recognizing that combustion takes place in a molotov?

Actually no, its NOT the fluid that catches fire, its the fumes of the fluid. Liquid gas does not burn by itself as it has no oxygen. Only when the fumes get oxygen they burn.

Pretty much every oxidizing reaction is the same, from a cigarette, to a campfire, to an engine, to a molotov, to ANY kind of HE or LE (although these have oxygen in them already).

  • You pretty much confirmed by point.

The only thing they have in common is the fact that both have fuel burning and rly on the air for oxygen (although not necessarily the case for a FAE). But that doesnt mean the weapons are the same. The effects and forces involved are entirely different. Thus your initial statement that they are basically the same is false and simply stupid. A campfire is closer to a molotov than a FAE.

  • @AntiSocialTroll Actually a molitov cocktail is conflagration, and a FAE is detonation, the difference is the efficiency of the fuel to air. A molitov cocktail is not atomized, it's just a flammable liquid scattered and allowed to burn at its natural pace, a FAE efficiently atomizes the fuel in the air so when ignition occurs there is something like 97% detonation over the 12% or so from a molitov. The speed of the explosion is in actuality the destructive nature, it exceeds the Speed of Sound

  • @Buuub08 watch?v=InhyE3ukqro

  • we Americans like to fuck shit up =]

  • kenfo0: you both are.

  • if im not mistaken you can see this in one of the upgrades in command and conquer generals. It's like a firework in a deadly way.

  • "The technology was sold to Iraq"

    Oh, good...

  • Comment removed

  • im sexy

  • "the window of detonability is 50ms or less."

-MORE than is detonation, less than is explosion.

  • the quantum mechanics behind these reactions are just beautifull, the reality of its use however, is not. :(

"made in america blah blah blah sold to iraq"

this war's never going to end, the worlds ethics are just too dirty.

  • first thing that came to my mind when i saw this was "I gotta get this for the fourth of July."

  • PUFFER FISH!

  • what the hell??? That's fascinating and so horrible at once... : /

  • You can make one of these. lol Its just an atomized explosion.

  • Getting the correct dispersion (fuel-air ratio) takes extensive testing, and then creating a method for reliable millisecond delay is another difficulty. There's dozens of variables, any of which can destroy the performance of an FAE. While making one on the amatuer level is possible, it is by no means simple or an easy undertaking.

  • Build a fire. Throw an open bag of flour next to fire. Boom.

  • Not even close! That would get a fast deflagration at BEST. In a true FAE the fuel cloud actually detonates, which creates an entirely different blast effect from deflagration. Attaining a true detonation requires very specific conditions- for instance in explosively dispersed fuel clouds, the window of detonability is 50ms or less.

What you're talking about is making a fireball, you can do that easily just by making a cloud of gasoline vapor next to a fire. An FAE is completely different

  • Listen to the man. BTW AnonymousUploads I saw your homemade *real* FAE! Great stuff! I'm dying to know when the next larger FAE charge will be tested, filmed and posted!

  • Testing is ongoing, but it might not be possible to get any scaled up firings done before winter sets in. The cold sets in early this far north, and FAEs don't really like freezing temperatures, screws with volatility, flash point, everything... fuels don't do well when its -40.

So you might have to wait early next summer for any 5 gallon tests :P

I was working all summer so I didn't have the time for anything, sadly.

  • the time can very for the vapor to be ignited as it can depend on the chemical used and some other things i think (I dont know much). The timing is considered a secrect

  • what is that supposed to mean? lol you explained nothing lol. are you saying "stuff is made of atoms"? It was an aerosolized fuel explosion.

  • no he's saying it's particulate matter mixing with the air and exploding... ever heard of a flour or grain silo explosion? Same thing.

  • posts are out of order for me....can't see what I wrote about 3 months ago. A fuel-air explosive device does not have "particulate" in it. not sure what you are talking about.

  • "what is that supposed to mean? lol you explained nothing lol. are you saying "stuff is made of atoms"? It was an aerosolized fuel explosion." In response to an atomized explosion. I was just stating what the guy was talking about... plus, your comment isn't that far back on the page... Anyway, aerosol is defined as "a suspension of fine solid particles or liquid droplets in a gas." Thus particulate matter. Thank you thank you. I'll be here all week :)

  • A: Relax dude, you're getting all upset over some posts on youtube. B: You said it was an aerosol and I defined aerosol to prove the point that it includes particulate matter. C: The first fuel air bomb was made by the germans in 1944 using dry coal powder mixed with O2. " trees were reportedly destroyed within a 600 meter radius". For a modern example the AGM-114N Hellfire Metal Augmented Charge uses powdered fluoridated aluminum that is dispersed and rapidly burns creating thermobaric effect

  • a. relax dude, I explained myself quite calmly and clearly...you then chose to be a smartass. b. name a modern fae using solids. c.interesting enough, but not relevant to what I wrote. An FAE is not the same as a TBW. They are used for different purposes.

  • "A typical thermobaric weapon consists of a container packed with a fuel substance, in the center of which is a small conventional-explosive "scatter charge". The fuel could be a finely powdered explosive metal such as aluminium or magnesium, or a reactive organic substance such as coal or baking flour. It could also be a liquid such as gasoline, in which case it is usually called a "fuel-air bomb"." And that's just wikipedia for starters. There are many more sources that say the same thing.

  • I'm done with this argument. You clearly cannot be wrong. I'm wrong. I have no idea what I'm talking about.

  • You are finally correct: You have no idea what you are talking about (but took 4 spammy posts to do so). My comment related to the weapon in this vid. You, on the other hand, ramble on and on ad nauseum about what it COULD be. I am glad you have decided to shut up. You are annoying, at best.

  • Gotta love the fuel air explosive, good bang for your buck sans fallout

  • i like to use these in my back yard on the plastic army men

  • Developed by the USA but invented by Mario Zippermayr from Mailand

  • This kind of bombs was developed in late WW 2 in Germany (Prof. Zippermayer) and first testet at the surface of the Bodensee.

  • and thank you America for everything minus everything

  • @FuckTheNinety110s yeah besides the internet, this website, your operating system...

when your country flies to the moon then talk to me you european prick. go back to your lords and dukes and dark ages...we dont give a fuck about you and neither does china or india...the whole world has passed you by so you might as well kill yourself you fucking liberal pussies.

  • @FuckTheNinety110s See above, putz

  • @FuckTheNinety110s I hope you realize that computer networks that eventually to the internet as we know it, began as a U.S. government funded project called ARPAnet. You're using technology the U.S. first implemented to make yourself look like an idiot. It's quite ironic.

  • @kcajla3 Yes, the network was a US government project but the World wide web as you are using now and have been for almost 2 decades was devloped by the UK. If your going to talk down to somone at least tell the whole story, not just the parts which suits your point.

  • @Aliasify Then TCP/IP protocol, created in the US, invented by scholars at Stanford University is thanks to the UK? CERN in Europe adopted TCP/IP after we developed it. I'm using TCP/IP right now. All originally based on telephony modems (telephone communication invented by who?) Once the networking was recognized everyone worked together and the IEEE is now international (yet 55% US), what did the UK itself contribute besides a really long cable? Nobody owns it, but it had its origins.

  • @FuckTheNinety110s

Yeah, so dont forget to thank us for YouTube while you're at it either....now get lost if you dont like the USA. Go to another country and speak public hate about them like Germany and see how long you live....

  • @ViperSRTnACR no,thanks i dont love "the USA"that much,so that i ll say "i hate them"!

  • "FUEL-AIR W-S WERE DEVELOPED IN AMERICA" TRUE AS 2+2=3!the germans developed them initially in 1944-45(and most weapons ,america throws on our heads today)

  • tru dat. Germans developed everything. Their air cannon powered by the force was especially cool.

thank you germans for the v-2 and Wernher von Braun minus the killing people part.

  • @TopGunMan

Don't forget MP3, it was developed at the Max Planck Institute in germany. Many great inventions were made here, Rammstein too. Sadly, we are responsible for the killing jews part and bavarian music as well.

  • eh, everything is a balance....

    LOL

  • @FuckTheNinety110s most weapons every modern country uses these days are originally german, quite an interesting thought no?

  • @aracaen

Not only weapons, people all over the world are using German technology everyday, half of it is sold as "American" ~

  • Hey @FuckTheNinety110s take a break. You don't have to be a fuckign prick every single day of your life, you know. Putz

  • Comment removed

  • @FuckTheNinety110s Because we didn't make one thing we didn't make anything use full? Germany may have done some very interesting 10 years but i think the US has the lead in the almost 200 years of innovation.

  • @FuckTheNinety110s Wait, you mean the Germans who couldnt fuel their tanks when the Soviets were at Berlins gate were inventing FUEL AIR burst explosives?

Thats like saying Haitians have refined the 7 course meal over the last 10 years....with one ingredient MUD,

You sir are a side winding faggot.

  • the video is to short but is good

  • by far the coolest bomb ive seen

  • Interesting view of the schockwave at the end. It's all obviously ultra slow-mo.

  • Definatly the MOAB as far as the three bombs you just described. However the Russians reciently made a large fuel air bomb called the vacuum bomb. In theory, by Russian claims, it is three times more powerful. There is a vidio clip on this.

  • The BLU-82 was the largest & heaviest conventional bomb from the US until 2003.They tested 2500 pound FAE bombs in Vietnam 1967-68that were as powerful but weighed six times less as BLU 82. But they were unreliable, and USAF needed a blast bomb that they knew would go off first time to clear a landing zone. Hence the size of BLU 82, introduced 1970. The new Russian FAE bomb uses modern technology and is only slightly bigger but is way more powerful. US interest in FAE waned at end of 70's

  • i wonder what's more powerful: a fuel air bomb, a moab, or a daisy cutter

  • who cares theyre all fun to use!

  • MOAB, hands down.

  • Watch the beginning of "Outbreak" to see a CGI rendered FAE explosion. The film researchers probably just called the DoD & asked for footage of tests conducted by Sandia from the 1960's

  • i've seen Outbreak. that bomb made a pretty big BOOM!

  • The symmetry of the dispersal in the first 1.5 seconds is awesome! Like a wet firework burst.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow

    Just wow

I have been looking for stock footage of a fuel air bomb forever, and this is exactly what i wanted!! Such an awesome vid!
