This seems like an attempt on the part of the experimenter to elicit more of an emotion from the viewer of this experiment. There aren't only two choices. As a result, females tend to analyze social situations from an emotional perspective (good or bad) rather than a logical perspective (ethical or unethical). A female will associate white with good because of the social conditions and then CREATE a reason based purely on need. A male will evaluate the differences FIRST then effect the meaning before he answers.
There are several reasons for this, but it has much to do with human gender roles before civilizations existed. Males had to evaluate situations and THEN create outcomes or they would die (hunting for example and leading groups to safe territory without the benefit of memory). Females, on the other hand had to tend to the offspring, making logical thinking less pragmatic.
When asked which doll is the "nice" doll, though I admit all the evidence was not submitted for better elaboration, it is noted a black GIRL concluded something almost irrational and that came from a set of expectations (to say the least) rather than evaluation of the evidence, while the black BOY evaluated the dolls and concluded that it was IMPOSSIBLE to create an emotional evaluation without more evidence to support such a claim.
I am going to try this experiement with my children and see what happens. I am curious if them being homeschool will have any effect on the way they answer the questions. I am hoping the fact that I have been with my children when issues arise to talk them through it and reasurre them of themselves will have an affect on things. Some of these kids in school dont even come home and tell there parents when they are presented with a racial issue that shakes there confidence.

I think we nee to stop pretending like there is not an issue with black childrens self esteem and self image and just face the issue head on. I saw an experiment where the kids were much younger, and they didn't have two dolls, they had a piece of paper with around 10 different faces on them ranging from lightest to darkest.

I doubt that they simply grow out of that perception, I think that that they just know better, but the effects that the media has had on them is almost permanent.

This seems like an attempt on the part of the experimenter to elicit more of an emotion from the viewer of this experiment. There aren't only two choices. Males had to evaluate situations and THEN create outcomes or they would die (hunting for example and leading groups to safe territory without the benefit of memory). When asked which doll is the "nice" doll, though I admit all the evidence was not submitted for better elaboration, it is noted a black GIRL concluded something almost irrational and that came from a set of expectations (to say the least) rather than evaluation of the evidence, while the black BOY evaluated the dolls and concluded that it was IMPOSSIBLE to create an emotional evaluation without more evidence to support such a claim.

I am going to try this experiement with my children and see what happens. I am curious if them being homeschool will have any effect on the way they answer the questions. I am hoping the fact that I have been with my children when issues arise to talk them through it and reasurre them of themselves will have an affect on things. Some of these kids in school dont even come home and tell there parents when they are presented with a racial issue that shakes there confidence.

Thanks for sharing. I seen a reinactment of the original experiement with John Exposito("School Daze"). It still looks just about the same today as it did in the 40's. I think we nee to stop pretending like there is not an issue with black childrens self esteem and self image and just face the issue head on. We have to stop saying things on front of our children about good hair and bad hair. We need to stop making racial comparisons outloud in front of them when we think they are not listening.

I've seen a lot of these circulating around, but this one is my favorites.... 5 STARS. I feel it portrays a more accurate view from a vaster environment of children under different circumstances! (Better questions too) Notice how the bi-racial female said that the brown one looked more like her but, Im not mean either. So, it does not represent an issue of beauty in some cases but behavior/attitude! (KUDOS 2 YA)

the influencing of minds does not come from the people out in the world, it comes from the people who decide what images to constantly show....When is the last time you have seen a positive story out of Africa?? and honestly, I don't regard some missionary group from outside going in to provide clothes and medicine as a "positive" story...

Dark skin, thick afro hair are still not promoted as beautiful for a woman to hav in western society.
