Such a lovely tune. I remember stopping in my tracks when I first heard this over the radio. I was hearing something genuine and sweet. This song stood out from all the overproduced, digital auto-tuned, dance tracks. There is so much kindness and humanity in music like this. "Keep me where the light is".
@bkizzleish This song did the same for me the first time I heard it. And the 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 14th, etc (doesn't do it every time, but it hits hard). Thank goodness for musicians who can put feelings that almost all of us have into words that almost all of us cannot.
hes never made me want to quit guitar, infact iv felt what hes felt before, dosent take much, just the love of the music really, and the love of the playing guitar.
At 4:25, if you turn it up you can hear 60-cycle hum when John kicks on a pedal for the solo. God I love the tone of single coils, and the noise that comes with them....that ain't noise to me, it's just part of "the tradition."
Mayer is one of the best players the world has seen since the golden days of Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, and all the 'real' guitar players. Hes been accused of taking tricks from Hendrix and SRV, but not only does he make it his own, and play it the way he plays it, but remember that every guitar player learns from watching other guitar players.
Amen. It's impossible not to take in the tricks of those older players because really, the guitar is a limited instrument, and with such innovators as this smart fellow mentioned, as well as others a bit farther outside the blues/rock genre just because they did so much for the instrument, and while blues leaves much room for emotion and feel, it's not the easiest to branch out of in sound and innovation. John is one of the better modern guitarists and is a fantastic songwriter.
man i used to not like him untill i saw this. all i heard was his pop music, then i saw this and i realized what everyone was taking about. it's great!
I've been in and out of YouTude but never signed up until today. This concert aired over the weekend during the winter NAMM show in Anaheim. I was compelled to sign up to post this comment. This relatively new kid on the block plays with such old soul. A few "licks" reminiscent of Hendrix but this is all his own. An awesome performance.

I don't know why people sometimes say that he's too "cocky". If I could play like that i would stand on the stage posing like hell. :D
he is only feeling his music. if i think of violinists... they look much more "cocky" while playing their instrument ^^
