I'm not quite sure if labeling the participants as atheists from the beginning was correct, seeing as how they forfeited their beliefs almost instantaneously after experiencing feelings they could not comprehend. I think agnostics would have been a more appropriate designation. Perhaps the group lacked in their understanding of the malleability of the human mind, therefore opening them up to suggestion and other subliminal "mind-control" methods.
@LOLDISNEYLAND Everything in the world is something you have been led to believe.. You where led to believe that paper is called paper. Just because there is no explantion...it doesn't mean there is not one. Just the same way babies arent created by a scientist putting molecules togethere. I mean I cant do it..I cant put chromosomes toghether. If Faith by your definition "needs to be realistic with some form of reasonable steps to the final result." then I wouldn't call it Faith.
@mopsnuf ...well I used to live in the Jungle of guatemala, I seen more crazy things than religion. I lived in a part that was more dominated by witch craft and who knows what else...I really dont have any definition for it... so if you can find yourself a good mayan priest, maybe he can show you how he can make a dog die infront of you by just looking at it.,
Atheism is as prone to non sens as any religion. How could there be a world as arbitrairy as ours, without an arbiter? Then again, how could there be a arbiter, wouldn't that be arbitrairy too? Neither a belif in god or no belief in god make sens. The only other answer would be, well maybe there is no world that is arbitered, but clearly something exist. You are therefore in front of a triple non-sens to which all answers are lies. You have as much blind faith in atheism as in religion.
@GregTom2 Well my opinion is that the so-called "arbiter" is the beginning. By this I mean that the first action, the first impact made on whatever plane of existence is what sets the metaphoric ball in motion for other events to occur. All consequential events are dictated by the initial action. If we were to adhere to the original Big Bang Theory in which the universe came from nothing, then in a void that initial action becomes everything and dictates everything that came about as a result
When I was a self confessed Atheïst,I suddenly felt a feeling of confort, it was as if a (holy)spirit of some sort was there protecting me, making me feel very calm and confortebel.
I thought:'This must be what all those people are talking aboud, this is God'.
I was convinsed that God was there for an hour, until I asked myselfe what made me conclude it was the christian god. Everything chatterd down and i was an atheïst again.
I gues, Derren triggerd the same feeling in that people.
@wybo2 This is exactly the fundamental problem with all faiths. There is a feeling, experience and people can't see the face of it. So they apply a generally accepted template of faith to explain their experiences that they otherwise couldn't explain with reason. Why wouldn't a Christian say that they experienced something that was probably sent from the Hindu god Vishnu? It is because people have a cultural, religious reference point that they adhere to on all matters they cannot explain.
Here's a small note to the people that think that Derren brown has a spiritual power to him; it's called psychology. Specifically, it's called the power of suggestion. A lot of people are converted using the power of suggestion, and even the people who convert them aren't even aware of this most of the time. It's a fascinating field, and not a whole lot of credit is ever given to psychology, but it's really powerful.
Well, not sure if this makes sense, but if you lock your knees you cut off circulation in your legs. This might explain the tingling sensation, or whatever, and the loss of strength in their legs. Not trying to be a wise guy here, just correct me if I'm wrong.
Just to put it out there, Zatan priests use a form of trance. They have levels occultism and also a power of projection where they can actualy wake up from your sleep. This seems very similar and familiar. I do belive they are being exposed to something spiritual. I am not going to say good or bad, but you might want to dig for your self so that I'm not just telling you what is realy outhere.
@nymincho Spirituality is something you have been led to believe exists. If spirituality is something that is unseen and incorporated intelligent beings with an absolute understanding of the universe, then I have heard this before. It is my choice whether I should accept this belief or not. Normally, when people have faith in an idea, it needs to be realistic with some form of reasonable steps to the final result. With any spiritual faith, there are no reasonable steps of any usefulness to man.
Its kinda like the feeling when your brother is pointing his finger at you, only inches away from you saying, "Im not touching you", but deep down you honestly do feel him. I dont believe its god, i believe that its energy that we all resonate. And it is a muscle that can be flexed and manipulated.
chick at 3:40, why did he ask her if she believes in him again later on?
Did she sit down after she rose the hand? That one dude was in the way.

@Abbiestp, well, it did, it proved how easy it is to influence people with mere suggestion, which is how a lot of religions work

gnarly.
i purpose that d.b. does has a real spiritual aspect to what he does. and im sure hes very aware of it.
if these people feel a real spiritual impacting i think its real. but its not good.
"whatever that spirit is, feel it... feel that moving into you, not to fight it.. but to welcome it.."
sounds like theyre def. opening themselves up to spiritual influence
not to mention hypnosis is closely related to a lot of hindu spiritual practices.

Derren has an 'electric impulse energy' which 'doesn't shock people'. Basically, Derrens the reincarnation of Jesus...or a circuit board.
