@popsickle Stfu horses are born to run and people who can ride know that you kick with the side of your boot its not hurting the horse any more than a slap on the wrist to a human
I know I'm going to get heck form this, but that is terrible the way they treat them. they're wearing these big spurs and kicking the crap out of them and whipping them with all their strength and the horse is extremely obviously in pain and afraid and just to win a dumb copetition. What a dumb thing to do.
Ill address the tail swishing and the whip when a horse tucks their tail to their butt everytime the whip hits their butt they dont like it and futher use should be stopped swishing side to side is a trait of how the horses run and is most popular in arabs which the 3rd horse in deff has some arab in it. as for the crowhopping there was none that is just how the horse keeps himself moving you can tell if it was bucking she wouldnt be running that fast. and the horse does love its job.
@dg506 A "real" Cowgirl wouldn't sit here and bash other riders or other disciples. English and Western are both very heard disciples. Riding both makes a better rider and makes an all around horse.
@dg506 Well at least I am a prick that tries other methods before using a whip on my horse (like asking for collection to get their legs under them), and doesn't immediately reject advice when it is offered as help.
@dg506 If you haven't tried those things, fine, but there's nothing wrong with another perspective. But don't say you are "open to advice" on your YouTube channel if you won't even consider it here. I didn't bother posting on your videos as I figured I'd get the same response there as I am here. As stated by the old Chinese Proverb: "A closed mind is like a closed book; just a block of wood."
@dg506 Interesting how most users seem to put words into other user's mouths on here. Can you please point out where I said you "treated him badly"? I simply asked a very valid question if you have tried other means to get him to collect himself besides using the whip? (Such as asking for collection with your hands and seat...Or doing bending exercises to correct him when he bucks/crowhops...)
@dg506 Well you left that very important information out on your first response. However, something still seems fishy if the *only* way you can prevent your horse from bucking/crowhopping is by whipping him. Have you tried asking for collection with your legs and hands to get his hind end under him, instead of just whipping? Sounds like a behavioral issue, if the health aspect of things has checked out.
@dg506 Haven't you addressed WHY he is bucking and crowhopping? "Just whip him" doesn't sound like a valid way to cover up the issue. Sounds like a pain issue to me; why else would he be giving you behavior issues if he supposedly loves his job? Have you had a full vet health examination done? Have you checked that your saddle fits properly? Have you had an equine chiropractor evaulate him? When is the last time you've taken him to the dentist?
ok.........the third riding is doing nothing wrong...some horses aren't phased by the whip.....ik mine isn't so don't judge ppl....that horse obviously loves what it is doing and doesn't care if it's whipped
Haha I'm a show jumper and I rode my horse the other day and tried out pole bending because it was set up. I musta looked like an idot compared to these horses and riders.. lol.
Dude I swear if I read one more comment about the 3rd chick whipping and kicking her horse Im gonna go crazy. Serisouly, do any of you do this? Most likly not. She looks like she knows what shes doing. And if you look hard enough she comes in extreamly hot through gate, so all her horse is doing is shutting down wickedly hard. It's not about to buck it's just the way it turns. I also read somewhere on here that if whipping and kicking is what you have to do to get your horse to go faster then
Question, why are they beating the horse with a whip?? I've done poles before, and I didn't need to beat my horse with it to win. I kicked their butts because the horse had some serious heart ;) . I'm just curious though if I need it since I'm starting into Western riding again...
@HorsesSpeakListen heyy i win all the pole bending where i am and i have the fastest pole bending horse in the circut. i have never layed a whip on my horse. i competed today and warmed up with a crop in my hand or my mouth for like 5 minutes then i put it away. i never hit her with a whip. you dont need it. if you do dont beat your horse with it. it will give you a bad reputation as a rider :)
@millie00peanut not really. thats cool and all if your horse does that but you dont get a bad rep as a rider if you use a quirt. i use one too. within a year of training my horse that knows nothing about barrels and making her a 1D barrel horse i think i know what im doing. and im so sure your the fastest. soo sure. id like to see you run like those girls up there. then you can talk.
@ShelbyLovesPepper ooh trust me i would have no problems running against you girls if i was in the same country. i love the competition. over here girls get bad reps by hitting or using spurs or harsh bits exsesivly. i have no problems having a crack at racing you girls :)
@millie00peanut oh , so you're one of those "natural horsemanship" people. that's cool and all but come on. and i would also have no problems running against you either. if your ever in america, hit me up. i'll show you real competition.
@ShelbyLovesPepper hmmm "natural horsmanship" yeaa i dont think so some how haha. ive barel raced with whips and quirts but i just dnt use them. ill take you up on that offer. show you just how Aussie girls ride.
Just fyi, That is one awesome rider. She and that horse love their job. She went on to went State that year as well as international finals pole bending champion, and well as the high school nation champion.
Just fyi, That is one awesome rider. She and that horse love their job. She went on to went State that year as well as international finals pole bending champion, and well as the high school nation champion.
These girls are doin a smokin job on these poles. But the 3rd girl is pissing her horse off big time. he looks like hes on the verge of buckin. I may not be no proffesional pole bender or barrel racer. I barrel race and pole bend with just spurs and still end up in the money. I went to a show yesterday and went in five events. I got 1st in pole bending, stake race, and second in keyhole, thread the needle, and Barrel racing. with JUST SPURS! I was against 11-16 year olds and won! With spurs only!
Listen , to all who think they're whipping the horses " too much " .. They know what they're doing , so back off . If you English riders think your horse can do all of that in the amount of times these girls are getting WITHOUT whips and spurs , good luck . But also , to ALL Youtubers , learn to get along , k ? If you were a true equestrian , you would accpet ALL equine sports .
GUYS LAY OFF THE WHIPS!! So a little whip is ok like just to get the horse going but really all the way through the course (3rd chick). Then when you get to the end you hank on their mouth to stop after you get done smacking them. Really is it nessescary??? Yes i barrel race and i know what i'm doing....if you want to make you horse go faster instead of beating them the whole time you should just get a faster horse!!
You don't see reiners using whips to get their horse's to go faster for a slide, they use some spur and lean foward, simple as that. No overly kicking/spuring and whiping.
Am a Western rider and English rider. The only Western event that uses whips is gaming, and most gamers also kick the hell out of their horses, they serously look like tiny, pissed off monkeys on a horse.
Am perfectly fine with whips, spurs, and crops if they are used properly, it's not ok to kick your horse like that though. It may not hurt horses, but they don't enjoy being kicked and whiped like that. You don't see jockeys kicking the heck out of race horses.
I hate all these snobby english riders trying to pick fights with western riders just for using whips and spurs. English riders use crops. Same damn thing. so shut the hell up because its getting annoying!
I love Western eventing! But I can't stand it when people kick their horses while wearing spurs! Putting pressure on the horse with spurs doesn't hurt them, but when you are kicking them like that it hurts them! It frustrates me, the horse I have now had a previous owner who misused him with spurs and one day when he was touched even slightly with the spurs he started crowhopping like mad! the third pole bender in this vid was just spurring her horse like crazy :( poor thing
English isnt the best for riding anyways there are more preature deaths in English drassage, show jumping and Racing then Western. Race horses are sent to slaughter if one leg get hurt or after 4 yrs. ridden before they are even old enough. horses heads are NOT suppose to be held so high lik in dressage. their faces are being ripped by the bit for looks. to be honest i dissagree with the frist rider she yanks his face. i ride bitless and halter so i can't complain.
@Barrelracer4life8 If you are a true rider you wouldn't sit here and bash english. I rode English for years upon years, and they are both equally hard. Learn to accept all disciplines. Not just one. Riding all disciplnes make a better ride and an all around horse.
That light grey looked horrible. He's crowhopping through half the run, and the rider isn't helping by whipping him constantly and jerking on the reins like that.
@purplecow56 I ride English and western, they are both amazing! Western you get more speed (i love) English you get to jump (i love) but they are both amazing. Give it a rest already
enough out of all of you! it doesnt matter what kind of saddle u ride. what matters is ur realtion ship with ur horse western nor english. All of u are acting like imature wranglers. enough! Both W and E are amzing things to take part in.
I ride English (LOVE both styles!) I'm just riding English to start out, that's what my instructor suggested. Both styles are AMAZING. No Need to fight over it. At one of my lessons, we did pole bending English style, which was quite fun. But, gosh, no need to fight over the different styles now. Both should be created equally, both have their purposes and such! :3
my favorite rider was the one ont he black horse... he or she lol didnt see it well.. well anyways the rider only used his legs and he patted the horse ont he way back not whiping it like all the others.. i cant stand the girl on the brown horse (first) and the one on the white/grey because of their whipping and kicking it looks like they are trying to kick the horse to death...!! btw the white horse didnt even know what the girl wanted from him...he did fine and still she whipped him hard!
That 3rd rider was terrible. If you have to whip that much to get your horse to move then you obviously shouldn't be running that horse. People like her give western a bad name. Terrible horsemanship.
@turnandburn4life AND who whips on the way up and through the ENTIRE pattern? A pop here and there never hurts but DANG she's also got a freakin BAT !
My goodness .... that third rider needs to lay off on the whip on her horse. She whipped him constantly all the way down, during the pattern, and all the way home. You can see his tail twitch and he rough middle turn. I don't care if it's not hard whipping, think of how discouraging it is for that horse to be whipped through the whole entire run
Calling me stupid? Are you kidding me? First you should learn how to READ because I already acknowledged that she was not whipping him hard. That doesn't matter. There are obvious physical signs of aggravation from the horse. For example, when she whips him during the middle of their run around the end pole, he throws his head down and really swishes his own tail around.
I GUARANTEE that horse would run just as fast, or FASTER, if she ditched the whip and let him do his thing.
@ravbeau Ok.....my horse throws his head down and swishes his tail when i use spurs so i don't think its aggrivation and even when i dont use spurs he still does it! so some horses just do that! I bet you the horse wouldn't whips are for a reminder the horse needs to run fast! i bet if she didnt have that whip the horse would most likely not run as fast
@MagenEfron A horse than rings/swishes his tail is either ANNOYED or is in PAIN. And I doubt you've ever had your own horse checked by a veterinarian or chiropractor for the tail swishing. I feel bad for your horse because he's probably in pain, and you're the one who is too stupid to realize it. Just because you "don't think" it is aggravation does not make you right. Ask any vet!
@ravbeau Actually i have him check out by the vet every other month!!! And BTW i can't even ride him right now because he freaked out in the horse trailer and hurt himself. And are you a vet? because you sure act like one, my horse just naturally swishes his tail i check his saddle and everythign and he still does it. hedosent limp or anything either. he even does it when i ride bareback and hes in his halter and i dont have a whip or spurs on and im not even making leg contact with him
@MagenEfron Well, if you can ride him just fine WITHOUT a whip and spurs (or even legs, as you claim), why do you even need to use whips and spurs in the first place? You've just totally proven my point.
The third horse/rider in this video would probably run poles just as well WITHOUT THE WHIP.
@ravbeau Because im not running him! if i dont have spurs and or a whip he will not run that fast he will maybe do a canter. You don't know my horse and i do i've had him 3 years and trust me i've tried to make him do a full fallop without a whip or spurs and he wont! because he's lazy.
@MagenEfron Sounds like your horse does not enjoy his job (because you must force him to run by using whips and spurs because "he is lazy") or you are not asking him right. I've yet to ride a horse that I couldn't get speed when I asked for it without whips/spurs. And that includes the "lazy" ones ... which I really hate that term because horses are natural want-to-please animals. A good horseman will present the task in a way that makes them WANT to do their job. Don't blame the horse.
@MagenEfron Yes, blame the horse for "being lazy" and don't take any responsibility for your actions as a horse owner and rider. Yes, that will certainly take you far in life.......
If you do not present the situation correctly to the horse, they will never be able to give you the right response.
@ravbeau the pore thing is probably so numb to it that she has to hit harder and more to get him to run! I would have rolled her into the dirt if I was the horse. >:)
@ravbeau Not to be rude, but that rider is there to win. During any of my runs, I am whipping and kicking the whole time. She is in no way abusing the horse. The crop she is using is a hand crop with a nylon end. She's not hitting hard, but hitting many times.
@InLove4Ev I did not say it is abuse and you are missing my point. Is that horse REALLY running faster and harder because the rider is constantly pestering and annoying the horse with the whip during the whole run? How annoying would it be to you during a 400 meter sprint if your coach ran beside you tapping you on the shoulder and said "run faster .... run faster ... " the whole way? You already KNOW you're supposed to run -- you (the horse) don't need your coach (the whip) reminding you.
@ravbeau Some horses are trained that way. I'm not going to sit here and argue with you as I am not in the mood. You ride your way and I'll ride mine.
@ravbeau Not saying I don't want a discussion. Just saying not gonna sit here and argue with you. Everyone rides differently and we're not all going to agree. It's not discouraging for the horse, some horses enjoy to run and whipping makes them run harder. If you don't like the way these girls ride why are you watching this video anyway?
@InLove4Ev Please stop putting words into my mouth I did not say. I am refering to the THIRD rider only, as I state clearly and not "these girls". And you watch that horse and tell me that it's not discouraged: Rough around both end poles, pinned ears (and not the "working hard" pinned) on the run down and weaving, and extreme tail swishing on the end poles and throughout the weaving. The horse is speaking loud and clear. Compare this to the other horses and how their riders handle them.
@ravbeau Yes this horse may be "A little rough around the edges." Maybe he's not finished. Maybe has was having an off day. 95% of the time it has nothing to do with the whip. Did you notice his tail was up in the air? Something horses do when there happy and frisky. Maybe that's why he was swishing his tail.
@InLove4Ev Did you not read my response? I clearly pointed that tail swishing like this most often a sign of pain or discomfort; especially when you look at the expression on this horse's face and his roughness around the end poles. Yes, some horses are more rough than others but it doesn't look good when this horse is showing other signs of pain/discomfort in addition to the tail swishing.
@ravbeau Did you not read mine? He could have had an off day. The horse does not belong to either of us so we don't know why he was swishing his tail. End of discussion.
@InLove4Ev I would hope the rider would have had a back-up horse to use if the horse was having an "off day" and showing signs of pain. And where exactly did you draw this "95% of the time it has nothing to do with the whip" conclusion regarding tail swishing? Please post the research that supports this claim.
@ravbeau Most of these girls don't bring back up horses if one is having an off day. And that comes from me running for 3 years now. I guess you don't run or you wouldn't bash these girls. They know what there doing. That's why there running 20's and 19's
@InLove4Ev Wow, three whole years. You must be an expert. Guess my 20 years of experience means nothing. You NEVER run a good horse when they are in pain. One run is never worth damaging the career of the horse. If you really run in the big leagues with those that know what they are doing, you WILL always have a back-up horse. And can't you READ? I've already pointed out to you that I only have a problem with rider number 3 ... not "these girls".
@ravbeau I'm done fighting with you. A horse can make a good run while there in pain--- MY running horse has a bad shoulder and still pulls 1st and 2nd everytime! You ride your way and I'll ride mine. Yes, I can read thank you, Rider # 3 is there to WIN, this is why she's whipping all the way through.
@InLove4Ev Why don't you ask any of the ladies in the current top 15 standings for the WPRA professional barrel racing if they will run a horse on the barrels while the horse is in pain? Let me know what they say. I know one of them personally who left her top mare at home over the 4th of July rodeo week (Cowboy Christmas in the pro rodeo world) and ran back-up horses and borrowed horses instead ... because you just don't run a hurting horse!
@ravbeau I'm not going to disccuss this anymore. Both disciples (English and Western) are very hard for different reasons. If you run speed events Good luck! If you don't good luck anyway!
@InLove4Ev So stop discussing then. I agree that many events both English and Western are hard on a horse. But as a responsible horse owner, you need to take care of your horse if you are going to ask them to perform at this level. And my entire point is that you should never ask them to perform when they are in pain, which is questionable with the 3rd horse and rider pair. Either the horse is extremely annoyed by the whipping or in pain, as evident by his body language during the run.
@090sophie Please learn proper spelling before you reply to any comment of mine. The horse doesn't belong to any of us, so we can't know if he is in pain or what. It's not wrong, or inhumane. The horses ears were not pinned back the whole run, so I don't think he was getting angry with the girl whipping him. From what I could tell, she wasn't whipping the horsehard, just many times. There is a difference. I do not run my horses while there in pain, so I'm not a b*tch for doing that. I would
@090sophie Some horses do learn to ignore the pain. I have a 5 year old that has stiff joints some days, but she fights me to let her run even when she's in pain. I do think I might have misunderstood the B*tch comment and I'm sorry for that. I do know it is bad for running a horse when it's sore.
@090sophie let them go whatever speed they wanted, not pushing. If they were hurting badly, I wouldn't run them. I'm not trying to be rude, just stating my opinion.
Respond to this video... if the people in this video were to use that much whip/ over and under where I show they would have been disqualified for excessive and unnecasarry use of a riding insrument, plus it's unsportsmen like to beat your horse.
@ravbeau i agree though with ravbeau and i am a barrel racer and pole bender. so I wouldnt make a big fuss about others opinions. Everyones different just keep that in mind. Thats why people argue they are DIFFERENT. Life would be SO boring if everything was agreed with :)
My goodness .... that third rider needs to lay off on the whip on her horse. She whipped him constantly all the way down, during the pattern, and all the way home. You can see his tail twitch and he rough middle turn. I don't care if it's not hard whipping, think of how discouraging it is for that horse to be whipped through the whole entire run.

The third girl on the gray rode way too aggressively for my taste. I do western pleasure (and gaming on the side for fun) and I know my horse would buck me off if I rode him like that.
@SuperEZ1994 You don't know how her horse acts. That's your horse. Some horses will put up with different things, and that horse was trained for that.
@SuperEZ1994 some horses do need agressive riders and some riders need aggressive horss. I Love how that horse moved but that girl needs to sit her butt down
@SuperEZ1994 i do rodeo mainly but i do also do showmanship and western pleasure...my horse loves speed and runnin and if i would use a whip or an over n under he would probably try buckin mee off too.. he doesnt need to pushed that hard but with some horses you do have to push like that to really make em runn and pick up speed
Just happened upon this. Five riders in under 1:54? The riders are all very good. Different techniques, different horses and styles but all very good. The 3rd rider, in my opinion was very smooth and her horse had magnificent lead changes. I don't know who you ladies are but it would be fun to watch you do a full day of gaming.
First one was horrible. Almost like she didn't know how to control the horse correctly. Still good, but I think the excessive whipping was unnecessary.
Their not the best, even in rodeo just cause you kick the crap out of your horse, or wip him 1000 times with the wip, dosn't mean he is going to go faster.
Maybe try spurs, and just keep gentle steady pressure on the way home.. Oh and up. : )
@happyjack12 uuhmmm if its not the best horse trainer..you prly could train it yourself(: right now im training my penning horse to barrel race and she could kick yir butt any day
@rodeo0bskt0ball you're right they don't hurt the horse. They just think of them as annoying and I'd love to see the day they decide they've had enough of it. And if they can go just fine without then why use them?
@happyjacks12 it doesnt hurt them and sometimes your need to use a whip and spurs to make your horse go because its lazy or cant pick up fast enough or just doesnt keep its speed
@RacerBarrel95 a few times when me and my momma rode before they started closing gates here some ran off with the riders and wouldn't stop... its only a precaution for green riders or green horses...
I don't get what western riders have against english riders and what english riders have against western riders. Both ways are great! I ride english but i love western! If you don't like one of the two then keep it to your self.
BTW, this vid is awesome! great runs! I wish i could do that!
wow :( i was just searching for pole bending on youtube because i like the sport. and the comments are nothing but arguing and bad mouthing people... if you don't like pole bending or rodeos, then don't search it. otherwise, just leave us alone. great runs, girls.
Purplecow56 you are giving such a bad name to english riders! i am an english rider but that is only because i live in the city and thats the only type of riding around me but all my life i have wished to do western riding and i have tried it and it way more dificult than english so dont judge other styles of riding because you dont do it! GO WESTERN RIDING!!!!!!!!!!
Purplecow56 youre crazy! Have you tried western before you go dissing on it,and from what I've seen from most English riders they're the bitches with the mistreated horses. I ride English too I do hunt seat and I jump. I'm more of a western rider though and let me tell you it's a lot harder to stay on a horse going through the poles and getting 23sec or faster than it is to jump! Also you really think that hitting your horse like that hurts? They can flip over on their back and no harm is done.
i'm sorry, but, You're giving a hell of a bad name to english riders @purplecow56 !!!
I've been riding for 11 years now (western AND english) and i respect people even thow i dont like the discipline they are riding! I love both disciplines, they are very different from each other!
You ow these people more respect. If you do not like western, DONT LOOK AT WESTERN VIDEOS!!! There, problem solved!!!
and, in english riding, there are more and more western thing intigrated in it, like music! :)
I agree. If people hate western, then why do they watch it on you tube? It also gives english riders a bad name when they leave dumbass comments on western videos.
and also, if you hate western so much, why do you continue to comment on this video. You have no idea what western is about, and you give English people a terrible name.
@purplecow56 wow is that all you have to say now!? after what you started!? wow "oh hush you" wow your cool.. if you havnt noticed your cmments have recieved to many negative comments! give up you stupid little bitch! grow up get a life and move on!! damn your so fuckin stupid...go back to your fancy snobby stuck up preppy lil wrold and shove a dick up your an asshole! okay!!?
I agree. Purplecow56 is such a b****! You should see what she sent me. She is seriously messed up in the head. Wow. She thinks that western people are weak.
haha yeah, well you don't see people writing songs based off of COWBOYS (Western riding). Country music duh!
And apperantly, if you ride with a bridle with a noseband/caveson, you are now her best friend. You take the noseband/caveson off, and she starts ranting about how bad and weak we are
i rated ur video and i put donw to poor. i would have given u 5 star is they werent beating their horses. i would rather sell my horses rather then beating them/ what a life they must have.
See, you can't judge things you don't know SHIT on. And, I don't see any videos of your great riding skill and demonstration of the wisdom that you seem to have...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i have eyes, i can see when you're just yanking on their faces, douche. xD and nope, no videos. only photos :) i do have great riding skills, but you'd probably be appalled as it is -gasp- ENGLISH. this is why i'm never getting into western -- i'd have to deal with idiots like you xD
You are so mature [/sarcasm] and even though some people have eyes, they may be blind, much like you. And you are wrong again. I don't see any pictures, and no great riding skills. I feel sorry for you, because you have yet (if you ever will) to experience being a true equestrian. Let me know when that happens, and maybe you can join the true equestrian family.
and for the record, I ride both, but mainly natural horsemanship.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i am mature, thanks. and i'm not 'blind'. i'm watching out for horses, not their riders. i have great riding skills, unlike you. i am a true equestrian, and am already part of the 'true' equestrian family, you dyke.
i only ride english and i've done so much with natural horsemanship, i thought someone who does natural horsemanship would also comment on something like this. you don't deserve to be in the equestrian family.

little too much leg flapping for my liking, keep them tucked in girls!
you need to teach your horses to go forward off leg pressure not repetitive kicking
and your spurs shouldnt be used as speed controllers
only as training devices. makes for a softer and lighter horse
every turn/side pass and increase of speed can be done without them. you just have to train your horses correctly.

@fresnotiger
Yes horses are born to run but getting them to run is a lot easier when you train your horse to be lighter off the leg and respond to less pressure
by kicking your horse to 'go!' and then not giving them a reward/release for their efforts is just going to hold them back from their potential.

I simply asked a very valid question if you have tried other means to get him to collect himself besides using the whip? (Such as asking for collection with your hands and seat...Or doing bending exercises to correct him when he bucks/crowhops...)
ravbeau 7 months ago 3
@dg506 Well you left that very important information out on your first response. However, something still seems fishy if the *only* way you can prevent your horse from bucking/crowhopping is by whipping him. Have you tried asking for collection with your legs and hands to get his hind end under him, instead of just whipping? Sounds like a behavioral issue, if the health aspect of things has checked out.
ravbeau 7 months ago 3

I also read somewhere on here that if whipping and kicking is what you have to do to get your horse to go faster then
lovergirl21rocks 9 months ago 3
Question, why are they beating the horse with a whip?? I've done poles before, and I didn't need to beat my horse with it to win. I kicked their butts because the horse had some serious heart ;) . I'm just curious though if I need it since I'm starting into Western riding again...
HorsesSpeakListen 9 months ago
@HorsesSpeakListen heyy i win all the pole bending where i am and i have the fastest pole bending horse in the circut. i have never layed a whip on my horse. i competed today and warmed up with a crop in my hand or my mouth for like 5 minutes then i put it away. i never hit her with a whip. you dont need it. if you do dont beat your horse with it. it will give you a bad reputation as a rider :)
millie00peanut 9 months ago
@millie00peanut not really. thats cool and all if your horse does that but you dont get a bad rep as a rider if you use a quirt. i use one too. within a year of training my horse that knows nothing about barrels and making her a 1D barrel horse i think i know what im doing. and im so sure your the fastest. soo sure. id like to see you run like those girls up there. then you can talk.
ShelbyLovesPepper 8 months ago
@ShelbyLovesPepper ooh trust me i would have no problems running against you girls if i was in the same country. i love the competition. over here girls get bad reps by hitting or using spurs or harsh bits exsesivly. i have no problems having a crack at racing you girls :)
millie00peanut 8 months ago
@millie00peanut oh , so you're one of those "natural horsemanship" people. that's cool and all but come on. and i would also have no problems running against you either. if your ever in america, hit me up. i'll show you real competition.

BarrelRacer955 10 months ago

Yes i barrel race and i know what i'm doing....if you want to make you horse go faster instead of beating them the whole time you should just get a faster horse!!
barrelcrazy100 11 months ago
You don't see reiners using whips to get their horse's to go faster for a slide, they use some spur and lean foward, simple as that. No overly kicking/spuring and whiping.
RandommmStuff 11 months ago
@RandommmStuff Most whips now days are a rope with a fluff ball at the end. Like mine.
WolfsRainBabe12 11 months ago
Am a Western rider and English rider. The only Western event that uses whips is gaming, and most gamers also kick the hell out of their horses, they serously look like tiny, pissed off monkeys on a horse.
Am perfectly fine with whips, spurs, and crops if they are used properly, it's not ok to kick your horse like that though. It may not hurt horses, but they don't enjoy being kicked and whiped like that. You don't see jockeys kicking the heck out of race horses.
RandommmStuff 11 months ago

Barrelracer4life8 1 year ago
@Barrelracer4life8 If you are a true rider you wouldn't sit here and bash english. I rode English for years upon years, and they are both equally hard. Learn to accept all disciplines. Not just one. Riding all disciplnes make a better ride and an all around horse.

In every discipline and style of riding there are horses who are loved and horses who are abused.
You can only defend and argue for your own personal ways, trying to argue for or against an equestrian style or sport as a whole is simply impossible.

At one of my lessons, we did pole bending English style, which was quite fun. But, gosh, no need to fight over the different styles now. Both should be created equally, both have their purposes and such! :3

That 3rd rider was terrible. If you have to whip that much to get your horse to move then you obviously shouldn't be running that horse. People like her give western a bad name. Terrible horsemanship.

@turnandburn4life AND who whips on the way up and through the ENTIRE pattern? A pop here and there never hurts but DANG she's also got a freakin BAT !
turnandburn4life 1 year ago
My goodness .... that third rider needs to lay off on the whip on her horse. She whipped him constantly all the way down, during the pattern, and all the way home. You can see his tail twitch and he rough middle turn. I don't care if it's not hard whipping, think of how discouraging it is for that horse to be whipped through the whole entire run
ravbeau 1 year ago 28
@ravbeau It's to make them run faster stupid and she wasnt even whipping that hard bc if she was the horse would bronc
MagenEfron 1 year ago
@MagenEfron not necessarily. they arent thinking about bucking during the pattern.... they're thinking about running
jakkerk3434 1 year ago
@MagenEfron
I GUARANTEE that horse would run just as fast, or FASTER, if she ditched the whip and let him do his thing.
ravbeau 1 year ago
@ravbeau Ok.....my horse throws his head down and swishes his tail when i use spurs so i don't think its aggrivation and even when i dont use spurs he still does it! so some horses just do that! I bet you the horse wouldn't whips are for a reminder the horse needs to run fast! i bet if she didnt have that whip the horse would most likely not run as fast
MagenEfron 1 year ago
@MagenEfron A horse than rings/swishes his tail is either ANNOYED or is in PAIN. And I doubt you've ever had your own horse checked by a veterinarian or chiropractor for the tail swishing. I feel bad for your horse because he's probably in pain, and you're the one who is too stupid to realize it. Just because you "don't think" it is aggravation does not make you right. Ask any vet!
ravbeau 1 year ago
@ravbeau Actually i have him check out by the vet every other month!!! And BTW i can't even ride him right now because he freaked out in the horse trailer and hurt himself. And are you a vet? because you sure act like one, my horse just naturally swishes his tail i check his saddle and everythign and he still does it. hedosent limp or anything either. he even does it when i ride bareback and hes in his halter and i dont have a whip or spurs on and im not even making leg contact with him
MagenEfron 1 year ago
@MagenEfron Well, if you can ride him just fine WITHOUT a whip and spurs (or even legs, as you claim), why do you even need to use whips and spurs in the first place? You've just totally proven my point.
The third horse/rider in this video would probably run poles just as well WITHOUT THE WHIP.
ravbeau 1 year ago
@ravbeau Because im not running him! if i dont have spurs and or a whip he will not run that fast he will maybe do a canter. You don't know my horse and i do i've had him 3 years and trust me i've tried to make him do a full fallop without a whip or spurs and he wont! because he's lazy.
MagenEfron 1 year ago
@MagenEfron Sounds like your horse does not enjoy his job (because you must force him to run by using whips and spurs because "he is lazy") or you are not asking him right. I've yet to ride a horse that I couldn't get speed when I asked for it without whips/spurs. And that includes the "lazy" ones ... which I really hate that term because horses are natural want-to-please animals. A good horseman will present the task in a way that makes them WANT to do their job. Don't blame the horse.
ravbeau 11 months ago
@MagenEfron Yes, blame the horse for "being lazy" and don't take any responsibility for your actions as a horse owner and rider. Yes, that will certainly take you far in life.......
If you do not present the situation correctly to the horse, they will never be able to give you the right response.
ravbeau 10 months ago
@ravbeau I totally agree....SOOO unnecessary. Poor horse. All that chick cares about is winning. No regard for her teammate. What a bitch.
LoveMyHorseShazam 10 months ago
@ravbeau the pore thing is probably so numb to it that she has to hit harder and more to get him to run! I would have rolled her into the dirt if I was the horse. >:)
gothpyrofire 10 months ago
@ravbeau Not to be rude, but that rider is there to win. During any of my runs, I am whipping and kicking the whole time. She is in no way abusing the horse. The crop she is using is a hand crop with a nylon end. She's not hitting hard, but hitting many times.
InLove4Ev 8 months ago
@InLove4Ev I did not say it is abuse and you are missing my point. Is that horse REALLY running faster and harder because the rider is constantly pestering and annoying the horse with the whip during the whole run? How annoying would it be to you during a 400 meter sprint if your coach ran beside you tapping you on the shoulder and said "run faster .... run faster ... " the whole way? You already KNOW you're supposed to run -- you (the horse) don't need your coach (the whip) reminding you.
ravbeau 7 months ago
@ravbeau Some horses are trained that way. I'm not going to sit here and argue with you as I am not in the mood. You ride your way and I'll ride mine.
InLove4Ev 7 months ago
@InLove4Ev If you don't want a discussion, then don't post a comment.
ravbeau 7 months ago
@ravbeau Not saying I don't want a discussion. Just saying not gonna sit here and argue with you. Everyone rides differently and we're not all going to agree. It's not discouraging for the horse, some horses enjoy to run and whipping makes them run harder. If you don't like the way these girls ride why are you watching this video anyway?
InLove4Ev 7 months ago
@InLove4Ev Please stop putting words into my mouth I did not say. I am refering to the THIRD rider only, as I state clearly and not "these girls". And you watch that horse and tell me that it's not discouraged: Rough around both end poles, pinned ears (and not the "working hard" pinned) on the run down and weaving, and extreme tail swishing on the end poles and throughout the weaving. The horse is speaking loud and clear. Compare this to the other horses and how their riders handle them.
ravbeau 7 months ago 2
@ravbeau Yes this horse may be "A little rough around the edges." Maybe he's not finished. Maybe has was having an off day. 95% of the time it has nothing to do with the whip. Did you notice his tail was up in the air? Something horses do when there happy and frisky. Maybe that's why he was swishing his tail.
InLove4Ev 7 months ago
@InLove4Ev Did you not read my response? I clearly pointed that tail swishing like this most often a sign of pain or discomfort; especially when you look at the expression on this horse's face and his roughness around the end poles. Yes, some horses are more rough than others but it doesn't look good when this horse is showing other signs of pain/discomfort in addition to the tail swishing.
ravbeau 7 months ago 3
@ravbeau Did you not read mine? He could have had an off day. The horse does not belong to either of us so we don't know why he was swishing his tail. End of discussion.
InLove4Ev 7 months ago
@InLove4Ev I would hope the rider would have had a back-up horse to use if the horse was having an "off day" and showing signs of pain. And where exactly did you draw this "95% of the time it has nothing to do with the whip" conclusion regarding tail swishing? Please post the research that supports this claim.
ravbeau 7 months ago 4
@ravbeau Most of these girls don't bring back up horses if one is having an off day. And that comes from me running for 3 years now. I guess you don't run or you wouldn't bash these girls. They know what there doing. That's why there running 20's and 19's
InLove4Ev 7 months ago
@InLove4Ev Wow, three whole years. You must be an expert. Guess my 20 years of experience means nothing. You NEVER run a good horse when they are in pain. One run is never worth damaging the career of the horse. If you really run in the big leagues with those that know what they are doing, you WILL always have a back-up horse. And can't you READ? I've already pointed out to you that I only have a problem with rider number 3 ... not "these girls".
ravbeau 7 months ago 3
@ravbeau I'm done fighting with you. A horse can make a good run while there in pain--- MY running horse has a bad shoulder and still pulls 1st and 2nd everytime! You ride your way and I'll ride mine. Yes, I can read thank you, Rider # 3 is there to WIN, this is why she's whipping all the way through.
InLove4Ev 7 months ago
@InLove4Ev Why don't you ask any of the ladies in the current top 15 standings for the WPRA professional barrel racing if they will run a horse on the barrels while the horse is in pain? Let me know what they say. I know one of them personally who left her top mare at home over the 4th of July rodeo week (Cowboy Christmas in the pro rodeo world) and ran back-up horses and borrowed horses instead ... because you just don't run a hurting horse!
ravbeau 7 months ago 2
@ravbeau I'm not going to disccuss this anymore. Both disciples (English and Western) are very hard for different reasons. If you run speed events Good luck! If you don't good luck anyway!
InLove4Ev 7 months ago
@InLove4Ev So stop discussing then. I agree that many events both English and Western are hard on a horse. But as a responsible horse owner, you need to take care of your horse if you are going to ask them to perform at this level. And my entire point is that you should never ask them to perform when they are in pain, which is questionable with the 3rd horse and rider pair. Either the horse is extremely annoyed by the whipping or in pain, as evident by his body language during the run.
ravbeau 7 months ago
@InLove4Ev
laaawwwwl your being stooooopid.
I think the point everyone is trying to make is that your shouldnt run a horse that is in pain......
its moralistically wrong, inhumane etc etc
Its like me hitting your knee with a hammer then making you perform the weekbix triathlon. Its just plain old mean.
not to mention it could damage you further then your initial injury.
so sure you can run your horse that is in pain but your a bitch for doing it
090sophie 1 month ago
@090sophie Please learn proper spelling before you reply to any comment of mine. The horse doesn't belong to any of us, so we can't know if he is in pain or what. It's not wrong, or inhumane. The horses ears were not pinned back the whole run, so I don't think he was getting angry with the girl whipping him. From what I could tell, she wasn't whipping the horsehard, just many times. There is a difference. I do not run my horses while there in pain, so I'm not a b*tch for doing that. I would
InLove4Ev 1 month ago
@InLove4Ev
I never said that horse was in pain. i was just pointing out that you were being silly saying "A horse can make a good run while there in pain"
You just shouldnt run a horse in pain just so you can win a comp.
And the bitch comment wasnt meant to be at you
i admit after re-reading that sentence i can see that its a little ambiguous
Im just saying people in general running a sore horse is a bad thing.
090sophie 1 month ago
@090sophie Some horses do learn to ignore the pain. I have a 5 year old that has stiff joints some days, but she fights me to let her run even when she's in pain. I do think I might have misunderstood the B*tch comment and I'm sorry for that. I do know it is bad for running a horse when it's sore.

Chicken legs, or two much wips.
Their not the best, even in rodeo just cause you kick the crap out of your horse, or wip him 1000 times with the wip, dosn't mean he is going to go faster.

@happyjacks12 it doesnt hurt them and sometimes your need to use a whip and spurs to make your horse go because its lazy or cant pick up fast enough or just doesnt keep its speed

I used to live in Nebraska but I have went to a rodeo in Kansas I still don't unerstand why the don't let y'all run in the gate and run out?!
RacerBarrel95 1 year ago
@RacerBarrel95 a few times when me and my momma rode before they started closing gates here some ran off with the riders and wouldn't stop... its only a precaution for green riders or green horses...

I don't get what western riders have against english riders and what english riders have against western riders. Both ways are great! I ride english but i love western! If you don't like one of the two then keep it to your self.
BTW, this vid is awesome! great runs! I wish i could do that!

Purplecow56 you are giving such a bad name to english riders! i am an english rider but that is only because i live in the city and thats the only type of riding around me but all my life i have wished to do western riding and i have tried it and it way more dificult than english so dont judge other styles of riding because you dont do it! GO WESTERN RIDING!!!!!!!!!!
nchil3 2 years ago

It also gives english riders a bad name when they leave dumbass comments on western videos.
kyleekowgirl 2 years ago 3
and also, if you hate western so much, why do you continue to comment on this video. You have no idea what western is about, and you give English people a terrible name.

I agree. Purplecow56 is such a b****! You should see what she sent me. She is seriously messed up in the head. Wow. She thinks that western people are weak.
kyleekowgirl 2 years ago 2
haha yeah, well you don't see people writing songs based off of COWBOYS (Western riding). Country music duh!
And apperantly, if you ride with a bridle with a noseband/caveson, you are now her best friend. You take the noseband/caveson off, and she starts ranting about how bad and weak we are
ok whatever...
Cheesekake343 2 years ago
@kyleekowgirl western people are not weak...they take such a beating sometimes

See, you can't judge things you don't know SHIT on. And, I don't see any videos of your great riding skill and demonstration of the wisdom that you seem to have...

i have eyes, i can see when you're just yanking on their faces, douche. xD and nope, no videos. only photos :) i do have great riding skills, but you'd probably be appalled as it is -gasp- ENGLISH. this is why i'm never getting into western -- i'd have to deal with idiots like you xD
purplecow56 2 years ago
You are so mature [/sarcasm] and even though some people have eyes, they may be blind, much like you. And you are wrong again. I don't see any pictures, and no great riding skills. I feel sorry for you, because you have yet (if you ever will) to experience being a true equestrian. Let me know when that happens, and maybe you can join the true equestrian family.
and for the record, I ride both, but mainly natural horsemanship.

i am mature, thanks. and i'm not 'blind'. i'm watching out for horses, not their riders. i have great riding skills, unlike you. i am a true equestrian, and am already part of the 'true' equestrian family, you dyke.
i only ride english and i've done so much with natural horsemanship, i thought someone who does natural horsemanship would also comment on something like this. you don't deserve to be in the equestrian family.
