This song is not LOUD enough!! Anyone have the same problem? I even have extra stereo speakers, & I just can't crank it UP!!! Must look for another post of the same song. I've had the same problem with other songs. OH WELL!!!
In 1958, a 20-year-old San Quentin inmate first heard a singer-songwriter perform what would prove to be a very inspirational song. The inmate was Merle Haggard. He wasn’t in jail for the first time or for shooting someone but he was in and doing 15 years for burglary. The performer was Johnny Cash and this was that song! \m/,
I love that when he hits the low notes everybody cheers. Nowadays its the screeched and squawked discordant overly high pitched shreeks that everyone likes so much. I'll never understand.
Can really recommend watching Johnny Cash's first acting film - Five Minutes to Live. It's up here on youtube in parts! I thought it was kinda good, he's a serial killer :P
Damn.. I miss Marshall so much.. He was a great bassist - with electric and upright bass. Marshall is dead, Luther is dead, Johnny is dead, W.S. is next..
@SYN7HOR i thought about the same as you and because the way he acts while talking.... i think he says "its sh+t" - maybe he ment the sound in that hall or something... but i´m just guessing - are there any lip-readers on youtube? ;-)
Im only 14 but all I do is listen to Merle, Waylon, Willie, Cash, Paycheck, Jones, Strait, and any other country singers that should be way before my time and Im proud to say I dont know a song by the stupid pop artists of today! I saw the recent top music list and was proud to say I couldnt tell you a word from any of them!
country music has become so incredibly stupid especially in recent years, with the absolute dumbest lyrics about drinking beer or whatever else mundane thing. must be why i despise most country music except for the old school country folks like Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton
@sard37 I think he was saying "Sing It"..As in don't take another break. Something must have been out of tune a little or some reason luther didn't wanna take another break...Normally they take 2 breaks.
I was watching the jonny cash story a few weeks before i saw this and wondered how close it was to the real thing, i enjoyed the film and must say i think they put alot of research into it.
my grandpa sang this on his death bed. not even kidding he was sing this minutes before he died. now everytime i hear this song i think of his crazy ass lol
solved the problem with guitar at 1.19 johnny cash was ready to change to the next chord but his guitarist was telling him not yet too early cash realised and waited for the next bar to change...it took me about 10 mins to work it out...you have to listen really carefully he starts to play the bass line on his guitar to lead him into the next chord but you can see his guitarist nodding to him not yet .......problem solved simple well if you are a musician if not you wont understand this
they just dont make friggin stars like this anymre. he had something a producer couldnt add with and amount of tech equipment and thats why in 3011 this will still be playing on the radio
The Cash Town Hall Party performances are great! I own the guitar Johnny is playing in this show. It's on display in the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame. Luther and marshall are fantastic!
Gosh! I can't believe. They found somebody exactly alike to Luther for WALK THE LINE movie, even his movements with the head... Gosh, I deffinitely clap to that!
Before everyone jumps on me just listen to what I have to say. I am not saying he is and I am not saying he isn't but I have been told that the guitar made up the solo on the spot for this song and I wonder if this is when he did it. It is a fact that the guitar made up the solo on the spot I just don't know if this is it or not. Does anyone know? It looks like it could be because Johnny Cash looks around before the solo and talks to him during it. Strange? So perhaps it is.
@laggar28 Think taht if you was of last century you probably didnt know him. Now, with internet can listen all of his songs!! Im glad to can say that!
@fishboy1424 Basically Johnny asked the electric guitar(can't remember his name) how it was going, meaning the song. And the electric guitar guy shook his head and said, "Shit."
@whosthere1 -- It looks to me like the guitarist says, at first, "C chord" and then "C to A." They might have been talking about the key and progression of the next song they would play.
he died on my birthday :( i look up to him my uncle got me into him when i was 6 and now im 15 and i love him :) he died sept 12 2003 an i was borned sept 12 1995 :) i wish i meet him
I was there that day! I lived within walking distance of the place in Compton. Saw Hank Snow and Homer and Jethro there, too. God, how I wish I could go back in time. I was born in 1950.
Cash is asking Luther Perkins, "How was the meal at the hotel tonight, any good?" and Perkins says, "Nah, not very good." And Cash nods, saying, "Ah...right."
