  • Man, this is a great cover. Very nicely done.

  • awesome dude. simply beautiful. love this song; you play it perfectly.

  • One onf the best versions om the tube, very smooth done w/ taste & a whole lotta soul.. I love this tune, i would be interested to hear it a few ticks faster as well, but regardless you nailed it..

  • WOW! great job,and dont worry about your soft spot for the tune, without it, you would have no soul. Peace

  • much appreciated and thanks for taking the time.

  • totally awesome!! :D

  • cheers and many thanks ;-)

  • Where's Dickey Betts? Where's Duane Allman? Nice job but a cheesy way to get views.

  • I see your point but it never occurred to me that it would generate views. I will try and remove from title or perhaps add "cover".

  • Good job!

  • Well done, well fucking done

  • Regardless of the key, good job. Personally, I play it in E,but it really doesn't matter unless you want to attempt to play it like Duane. .Many jazz standards I change the key for the singer.. Good job !

  • man are you good! thanks for posting :)

  • Excellent. You're rekindling my hopes of ever learning to play the tune.

  • great job a bit slow but had a nice laid back feel..

  • ok thqats cool, i wasnt criticizing i was just wondering if that capo made it open E, really good job though, this is my favorite allman bros song and u covered it perfectly

  • I took your comment in good spirit. It made me think , which is very important.

    Appreciate your input. cheers!

  • and what a great user id you have!

  • its supposed to be in open E, but other than that it sounds really good

  • Thanks for dropping by... I should point out that although I am dropping down to open D the capo on second fret effectively gives me open E.

  • its sopposed to be in open E

  • well done! keep it up. are you in open D with the capo on the 2nd fret?

  • Yes - Open D as you rightly say as the open strings are the notes of the d major chord. And yep capo at second.

  • Wow, What a nice job on one of my all time Duane/Dickey faves. BEAUTIFUL!

  • did u finda tab or just figure it out?

  • I had to figure it out as best I could because back then there was no internet. No TABs to download.

I probably wore out the rewind on the Cassette tape player trying to work it out.

Those were the great days of vinyl LPs with album covers that you could sit and study while you listened to music that would take you off some magic place for a while.

  • kool i do that mostly cause thats just what i do but tabs do help sometimes

  • Very nice. I love this tune!

  • lovely!! thanks! from an ABB fan............

  • You are most welcome. Thanks for taking the time.

  • It would be remiss of me not to post a thank you note, I appreciate the comments and thanks to all for taking the time! cheers Fuddster Long live the classics!

  • Good show, dude. Way to go.

  • very nice playing friend!!

  • Damn son! Good pickin'!

  • BEAUTIFUL job...

  • Applause!

  • Nicely done! That sounded great!

  • i love it ..... i wish i could find the coat of arms for it were i could get it free i can never find my name anywere

  • how is the guitar tuned?

  • D A D F# A D

  • I used an Emajor Tuning. Timbre is nice. Nice finger picking and your tone is great. The ring of your open strings comes through strong.

    Really enjoyed it.

  • Well done Ritchie(!!!?) Have a soft spot for this one too.

Nice that change at 1:09/10 and its a bit slower it gives the tune a nice mood. (no offence Duane!)

BTW how are the nylons coming on? (Mood for a day) lol!!!

  • Very Very nice. Well done.

  • Wish I could play the intricate parts of this one.

  • I wish this was an hour long, I would just lean back and close my eyes and ejoy it the whole time. Awesome.

  • Yes! Yes! YES!

  • Very nice tempo .. youmake it look soooo easy. good job

  • nice playing man. good fingerpicking

  • That is a great compliment - thank you ;-)

  • might want to fix the title, yes betts plays on this song, but this is the only song being written entirely by duane.

good job though, i play it in open d, but to each his own

  • Duanne wrote and recorded many others as well... My favorite is "no money down".Great re-do tho..

  • Duane wrote and recorded many tunes. "Happilly Married Man"and "No Money Down "are my favs behind this one. Great tempo on this. Good job!

  • "No Money Down" was/is a Chuck Berry song.

  • Listening to the original and your tribute... makes me believe Duane was playing some type of "dobro guitar" or?? the sound is different. Any knowledge of this?

  • There is a wiki I found after reading your comment. They are not always accurate but it claims the piece has been covered on Dobro but doesn't give too much detail on the original instruments other than "6 string acoustic guitars". Sorry I'm not more helpful. cheers;-)

  • Could it have been the corocedrine bottle that he may have used for the tonality?

  • Very nice! You make it look effortless. You have a great touch - the harmonics are great!

  • Thank you for your kind comment. cheers!

  • Wow! If I could play that , it would probably be the only song I would ever play again.

  • As BlueBlueFeelin mentions above it is not as tricky as it looks. I am sure you can play it givin a little time. Once the alternating thumb thing is happening you're on your way. The left hand fingering is not too complex.

  • excellente..bravo / great tone

  • very very nice

  • Excellent dude! How is your guitar tuned?

  • D A D F# A D - I have the capo at second fret. If I had lighter gauge strings I guess I could start from standard and raise the A to B, D to E and G to G# but I'd always worry about putting too much strain on the neck ;-)

  • great damn job

  • OH My Goodness..What a great reproduction of an usually untouchable song.... You did an EXCELLENT job... I faved and subbed... 5/5 Ray

  • Allman Bros songs seem very honest and straight up to me - the guys have a genius for simple elegance - one might say no BS which suits me fine as I can't play too flashy. I very much appreciate your comment and I always remain humbled by the original. cheers.

  • My friend,if you ever have read any articles or heard Duane talk...he pulled no punches he was straight to the point brother and it showed... He is one of my most favorite guitarists of all time..everone tries to play slide like him and that is the one most fitting tributes to anyone ever... They were pure tone and feel with Duane and Berry... not even close now...but they still are great but well losing a Daune and Berry not many bands could have withstood loses of that manatude......Ray

  • great job! one of my favorites off Eat a Peach

  • wonderful

  • I've always loved that song. Good Job!

  • Sweet!

  • Late to the game, but just beautiful.

  • Beautiful! Bravo!

  • You say you got it wrong ? I wish I could get it wrong like that. Thanks for reply.

  • Just awesome! How can I learn that ?

  • I would happily send you TAB but I have none . I can say that I play it in altered tuning - D A D F# A D and as you can see I have the capo at 2nd fret.I picked it out by ear a loooooong time ago. I know I got it wrong but I do enjoy having a go at it.

I listened to the original the other day and it remains the unbeatable best version. Duane and Dicky infuse so much character into their song. And its smooth and it breathes, its a classic. It's kind of like catching up with a dear old friend.

  • well its good to no that there is another person with a truly deep appreciation for quite possibly the greatest band of all time and you did a great job thanks for posting

  • Wow. Duane would be proud man.

  • Lovely job, just an acoustic masterpiece! Well done!

  • Ahh..beautifully played. When I play acoustic pieces like this and others, I strive to play with the grace and beauty that you have played this piece with. Unfortunately, I cannot play nearly as good as you. Perhaps one day though. Great job.

  • nice rendition, tho you know it's not as tricky as it sounds- alternate tunings and such. thanks

  • You make it look soooo easy. Stop giving me hope. hehe.

  • man at 1:50 you even got the "knock" on the guitar like the original song. thanks for playin this man.

  • Wow- an absolutely flawless version of an Allman's acoustic classic. You are extremely talented and should be proud of it.

  • thank you - i sincerely appreciate the positive feedback, I reckon I was just having a good day. I have 'em once in a while ;-)cheers

  • love the maton!

  • Man, you just made my day. Know all about that soft spot. This song makes you think of the girl you never had.

    Nicely played.

  • graet Cinema!! excellent

  • Wonderful. You nailed it! I am still working on much. The middle eight is where I'm most challenged. Post MORE!

Don with Jimmy and the Corndogs (99jimmy99)

  • man this was kick ass! you made me feel it. thats a great thing. I am 40 myself and the Allmond brothers are one of the most difficult Bands to play. thanks man. this will be in my favorites. 5 stars and if it were possible it would be more.

  • Thank you very much!

Greg, Duane and the guys did some magical stuff. It deserves to live on.

My eight year old girl is learning "whipping post" on the acoustic. I figure I will push the "classics" on her while I can!

  • I think it would be similar. I taught myself from the old vinyl LP when was 17 about 26 years ago (I am afraid to say). Back then I probably didn't realise it was a duet he he. I haven't listened to the original in a looooong time.

I always thought Melissa was a great song too.

  • yes please get your kids into the music your into.. maybe me andu would agree on some stuff like, jimmy page, jimi hendrix, and duane allman are the alltime greatest guitairstssssss

  • Yes - I definitely grew up listening to Jimmy, Jimi and Duane - they were unique "voices", real musical personalities, that you just don't find today. Today's music has taken a sharp left hand turn of the cliff.

If someone ever says to me "if they invent a time machine would you go back to the '70s?" I'd say "Man - I never left".

  • Good Geetar man!

  • Very nice.

  • Excellent job, man. You stayed true to the song, yet made it your own.

  • Wonderfully done, Fuddster000!

  • Good job Dave !*****

  • thank you fuddster00
