  • Someone commented here a few years ago, and I believe correctly, that this video is from 1987, not 1975!!! I never saw the Corries live but look at the youtube videos from the 21st anniversary show in 1981 and it seems clear.

  • 2014..............INDEPENDENCE !

  • reminds me of scotland/and i live here.times have changed.

  • I Love this song>>I try to sing it when I am Gassed.....happy New Year to All Corrie Fans, where Ye may be......happy 2012/

  • They should be walking on the right hand side of the road, facing oncoming traffic.

Capos at the ninth fret? - come on!

ps @steely1888 - you are an arse hole.

  • The COrries were ace in, billions of ways and I would love to live in Scotland if I was super rich with millions or billions and Scotland is an ace place and the scottish are friendly people.

  • this is brilliant!

  • love the corries had the privalage to meet them

  • I Remenber watching this a lot years ago on TV!!

  • What a fantastic pair o lads !! I just hope Del Trotter was caught and knicked for just about taking out roy in the Video !!! trotter was a wee bit close for comfort !!!

  • great song

  • Great song- one of the four songs I remember from my very early childhood, along with Johnny lad and two songs by other bands.

  • Get over the bigotry, the Corries are about Scotland as a nation and sing songs from both sides of the fence Redcoat and Jacobite. The reformation was 00's of years ago get over it.

  • yeha ,scots and proud

  • What a great pair of songsters.RIP Roy.We miss you lad.

  • "On the way to Killiecrankie-o."

    Aka, the A9 :D

  • The sad thing when reading the comments on this video is the type of sectarian drivel which stains this country of ours to this day. Until the reformation everyone was a Catholic. I happen to be a Protestant, but it is purely a matter of birth. I could just as easily have been a Catholic. We can be a great wee country if only we could put all this religious - or to put it correctly, pseudo-religious - crap aside.

  • @duncan3623, "Until the reformation everyone was a Catholic."

Popery reared its ugly head in Scotland in the 11th century, that's why William the Conqueror invaded Saxon England in 1066, to conquer Saxon England and from there destroy the Culdee Church in Scotland and Ireland. Hence, William the Conqueror's brother Odo led a Norman army into Scotland in 1072 only to be routed by Malcolm Canmore's army, and from the 12th - 16th century surprising few people were devout Romanists, it's a myth.

  • @Islandretreat absolute bollocks. the normanisation of Scotland had nothing to do with religion.

  • Aye. The Scots will get their independence back. Then it it will be a great ceilidh.

  • @TheAndroid4 its such a tough fight ...having to take on traitors and self servers....but most like in central belt only care about their state benefits and keep voting Labour :(...Scotland only part of UK that grew during the recession period

  • Look at the shoulders on them young Scottish lads...LOOK AT THEM!!!

  • I thought 'loof' meant 'foot'?

  • Just out of curiosity...... WTF is a loof I hope they aren't singing about kissing what I think they are lol

  • @danonutube1

loof is an old word for "hand" so when they sing ye better kiss king williams loof it is meaning pledging allegiance to him.

  • Whoo's getting the beer? That's a true Scottish question. I am a Jock in Weston-super-Mare, and having a party. 4 years so far and counting

  • I wonder what Britain would be like today had the Stuarts kept the crown.

  • these clowns where scots fighting for there king a scottish king and not a foreign king who william was the right side u say the right side is staying loyal to ur rightful

king who was james stuart v11 king of great britain and ireland and not a dutch tyrant

ps the right side won at killiecrankie the scots

  • @alex13499

Aye, The Cameron did their bit

  • @ac130ugunship Aye, we did - but for naught. Tribal peoples cannot win against the organized armies of feudal states. If we'd learned the lesson Vercingetorix tried to teach at Alesia, we'd have beaten the Romans. But the clans never did learn to put their differences aside and unite.

  • @pirbird14 Which 'clans' do you think were about in Roman times?

  • The Good people of Glasgow raised troops against Your so called Bonnie Dundee~ King Williams troops held many a Scot on the right side! This song is about a Covenanter lad on his way home after the faithful battle when Clavers got a clanky oh!

Its not a Jacobite song~ these clowns are merely mentioned in it!

  • @activator1688 ever heard o bonnie dunde .think u need to read a few boooks boy

    dft ulster wanker

  • Ye'd better kiss'd King Willie's lofe

    Than come tae Killiecrankie-o

God Bless the covenanters and the British Soldiers who this song is about.

  • @activator1688 but they lost the battle lol. Yes I salute the people who burned civilian out of their homes in the highlands and killed women and children deemed sympathetic to the jacobites....yes I am so fucking proud...the word british isnt even to do with being english.

  • My Uncle Ronnie Rocks lol how young does he look!!! :)

  • @FeeS78 You got an awesome uncle then :p

  • activator1688 you obviously dont know anything about our scottish history other than your blinkered view of history the battle of killiecrankie was fought between the forces of jamesv 11 of scotland and william of orange a foreign king john graham of claverhouse also known as bonnie dundee led the jacobite army against the forces of william and defeated them at killiecrankie this song is about

the highlands armies victory not the british army or traitorous covenanters who fought for william

  • @alex13499 I think it had a lot to do with religion, not just nationality.

  • @alex13499 CAN U TELL ME WHY THE COVENANTERS WERE TRAITORS. CERTAINLY NOT TO THEIR RELGION, WHY SHOULD THEY HAVE STOOD BY WHEN A MINORITY OF SHEEP SHAGGERS TRIED TO PUT A CATHOLIC KING ON THE THRONE, WHO DONT AND STILL DONT REPRESENT THE MAJORITY OF SCOTLAND

  • @MrBigbertie - twice the jacobites fought for a scottish king, whereas you orange lot fought for a foriegn king each time, 1st ye fought for a dutch king, then in the 2nd jacobite rising, ye fought against the scots and i mean real scots, not like the type of 'scots' u are, ye fought for a hannovarian(german)

  • @MrBigbertie I'm an atheist so I don't care about the religious shit but fuck you. there were no sheep in the highlands until after the highland clearances. The Hanovarian scum Slaughtered and evicted the jacobite clans of their own land and replaced them with sheep. Tried to put a catholic king? Scotlands King (King James) was a catholic. William was a usurper no matter how you cut it. England welcomed him but Scotland was a different story. And by what measure do you use the word majority?

  • @1brutaldeath Actually the Scottish Estates themselves threw James of the throne, branded him a traitor, and offered the throne to Mary and William. William wasn't loved but neither was James.

  • @FeeS78 Ronnie is you're uncle? if so you are right you're uncle fucking rocks dude...

  • I love Scottish music and songs but I find the people dour. Maybe it's just me. They're a bit like the Cuckoo. They're a nuisance in other clubs, singing their own songs and disrupting the order there. I wish they would open clubs of their own while abroad

  • @Terenceish Yes, that's because we are all the same......Jeez

  • I dont folllow no1

  • An' ye had been where I hae been

    Ye wadna been sae cantie-o

  • Fowk may think we're defeated... but we will rise..

  • 0:32 I start tapin my foot,i have served in the Parachte Regiment and now 27,this is the music you want to hear when going into battle

  • @superstratboy

The man you wanted to follow, was Bill Millin, the last Scottish Piper to lead troops into battle, a true hero, who marched in front of the troops playing and unarmed.

It is true that the Bagpipes can inspire Scottish troops to greater endeavours; why else would the English hang a a Piper after the '45 for using an "instrument of war"? And why were Scottish troops called "The Ladies from Hell" in WWI by the Germans?

  • Reminds me of Growing up, Ma mum and dad would play this on VHS when drunk while having party in house. Brilliant music. Jamie (28 years old)

  • claverhouse was a great great man who knew many many secrets of the temple and the order of sion .

  • i agree 2 farmerloon

  • Anyone notice Del boy and Rodney came all the way up to here to hear this?

  • God Bless You Sir. This day forevermore we shall lament. The First and most ardent of Jacobites.

  • LOVE this. Sadly folk groups like the Corries and the Dubliners are a thing of the past. And that is something to be greatly regretted. A song that is both a music and a history lesson. Great stuff..

  • @dublincelt

Too true! It's still great seeing these old timers entertaining a crowd though.

  • Beautiful, You dint realise how much your country, until you have left it for sometime.

  • Here's to Scottish and Irish Independence....

  • Not everyone is Scotland is like what you suggest. I am also Scottish and have met lots of wankers who are Scottish. You find that most people are good people who like having a good time.

  • roy&ronnie actually walked most of the road, i dont think stewart adamson did

  • The Corries did some definitive versions of scottish folk songs, but check out Big Country's version of this. I also enjoy Paolo Nutini's a man's a man. Fantastic.

  • @gert83 Your jokin'. Big Country don't sound like they could fight their way out of the proverbial wet paper bag.

  • wow i just love the corries, fab

  • We´ve been at killiecrankie during our honeymoon (we live in germany). Its a wounderfull place for walks and the best destillerie for single malt in the world is very close. Until now we didn´t find anything better.

  • Come on!!!

  • I am Australian, born and bred and I love all types of Scottish Music, especially the Corries!!

  • im scottish, 35 years old and i love modern music loads ... but i will always love scottish folk especially the corries i remember being a teenager and there show being on bbc scotland every saturday it just great ...

  • Absolutely whingenjock! I agree. Every video of The Corries is smothered with this political rubbish. Yes, they are/were nationalists, love them for it, but they were also Scotland's finest folk group that ever existed. Appreciate them for that too! They were the best!

  • can ye no just enjoy the music. Take your political view's elsewhere

  • aye, this political arguing over something that happened hundreds of years ago, only makes for strife and more fighting. Better to be of good cheer, have a round on me, and cheers lads.

  • the problems come from both sides of the religious divide and history tells us that scotland is made up of many people and many cultures-not so it is made up of roman catholics and presbyterians and when the reformation started it had nothing to do with william 111 but the covenant which was signed by yes the covenanters long before william was here and it was to give us the freedom to practise our religion and i for one long for those days when as a lowland scot never spoke gaelic

  • Tam your right to a certain extent, but you have to realise that in the time of James IV, the majority of Scots, even in the lowland areas spoke Gaelic as their native tongue. The Spanish ambassador to the Scottish court commented on that fact and his comments were recorded at that time. The loss of a language can happen at at tremendous pace and over a short period of time. The scottish Kings were in line through marriage for the English throne, so English became the language of power.

  • Comment removed

  • That is a foolish point of view. Scotlands cultures expand well past the "catholic" and "presbetarian" mantras. I suggest you read some history.

  • Scotland is a nation, Scot,s are loved everywhere they go, We just love to get along and party, we maybe defeated at times, but we still stand proud.

  • Tons of people at my school hate the scots. They take the piss out of them and everything else. I hate it!

  • then you must be in England as they seem to be the muppets that can't get on with anyone ask the welsh and irish

but dont worry too much as it is a school thing once they grow up things will change

  • katie never bother what thay say one day scotland will be free

  • just remember it's because your better than them you have a history behind you

  • @katiie641 I totally agree with you. We don't give a shit as long as we make friends along the way...UP THE ENGLISH

    Lynn From Scotland

  • The song is about a battle during the late 17th century civil war in Scotland. Dundee, He was known to his supporters as Bonnie Dundee. His support came from the Catholic Highland Clans (mostly from Clans Cameron, Donald, Stuart and McLean) , and his army were known as the Jacobites. Coming from Inverness over the Corrieyairack and Drumochter Passes,

  • Claverhouse was not a Catholic. He was a member of the Scottish Episcopal Church and many of the supporters of the Stewarts were not Catholics. It was not a religious war. It was a war of royal succession for much more complicated reasons than merely religion.

  • General Hugh McKay (1640-1692) was commander-in-chief of the Williamite (Government) forces in Scotland. They were also known as the Covenanters, and they marched against the Jacobites. His forces largely came from the Scottish Lowlands but also included professional Highland soldiers who fought against their close relatives. Williamite means William III of Orange

  • Damn few, and they're all dead!

  • Wha's like us ?

  • Looking into scottish history. My family are Robertsons. Were we Jacobites.

  • Thank God for the internet. It means that this wonderful music will never die. I saw the boys 25 years ago and marvelled at the way they held the audience with their love and respect for the heritage and the music of the hameland. Never to be forgotten.

  • Unfortunetly I will never be able to see them live. :( This is what youtube is for, to me, to keep peoples spirits alive like this. great music and proud to be Scottish,

    James, Aberdeen - Scotland

    :)

  • I wish I had the honour of fighting with the Jacobites.

Fighting for their religion, freedom and their basic human rights!

  • This has got to be my favourite Iain . Thanks ,thelma ( in canada)

  • thanks for posting 30 years on better than ever.

It is only now i appreciate the significance of the Corries, As well as entertaining, they paved the way, changed how we saw ourselves, felt

  • The song is from a government soldier's perspective having been beaten in battle and warning of subsequent forays into similar with Highland troops.

  • I always liked that song though I'm not Scottish I don't understand the history of it, though I haven't really tried either, brought a tear to my eye seeing them in black and white, wonderful.

  • In short. Its about a Jacobite victory over the British army. The Jacobites wanted to the Catholic monarchy of Scotland to rule the British throne. The British army wanted the Protestant English monarchy to rule the British throne. Both sides had followers from Scotland, England and Ireland. It was almost like a civil war.

  • there was no jacobites until the english lords got rid of James 7th ( 2nd of england) to replace him by the dutch king william. It was not the jacobites wanting the catholics to rule, it was the english protestants not wanting the catholics or rome to rule Britain. All british folk should have been jacobites, no foreign person should have took the crown. And then there was king George the german that could not even speak english. Jacobites also from Spain and France.

  • love this song love my land

never mind god save the queen god save scotland

    jacobites by name

rise now stand tall tell the english to go home to think again

  • love the song, love ur land

  • Scottish and proud.... but we do know that this song was all about scottish V scottish no?

  • Well, Jacobite vs Government.

    Top song. Classic.

  • Independce one day lads!!!

    up the scots

    Scotish And Fucking Proud

  • @farmerloon Aye mannie if your going to post this sort of thing, then at least learn to spell and not let the rest of us down by not being able to spell your own nationality.

  • @farmerloon so dignified, what about not using the F word when talking about your country....respect?

  • YES, YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF BEING SCOTTISH ... I AM TOO.

HOWEVER, IT IS A SHAME THAT YOU COULDN'T SPELL SCOTTISH CORRECTLY.

  • @farmerloon What does that have to do with the video?

  • @robsargent4 300 years of waiting makes ppl erupt in random comments like that i suppose

  • spell it the the right way thicko

  • 1 st class *****

  • Lovely song, makes you scottish and proud.

  • Bonnie Dundee,Graham of Claverhouse, was mortally wounded in the hour of his victory and lies buried in the crypt of old Blair church.

  • JimmyBhoy, the jocks have taken over the south,, did you no know?

  • what chords do they use? and do they use a capo? i cant really see it in the vid. i can play the braes o killiecrankie with C F C G but i cant figure out the way the great corries play it.

    Saor Alba

  • one day we will be free of the english invader

  • At this point i'm more worried about the muslim invaders.

  • Brilliant idea it4490g!! can I join you? Cheers from France!

  • our day will come when we build a big wall at berwick

  • I'm English and I think Scottish music is fabulous, also the Scottish fighting spirit, but one thing worries me: is enough being done to keep alive Scottish culture? How about Gaelic? Why is nobody making comments in gaelic here? Seriously, you lose such a lot by losing a language. If the Israelis could revive hebrew, then surely the Scotts (and Welsh) can do the same for their languages.

  • There is only about 3 Gaelic schools in Glasgow. My cousin went to one, she speaks Gaelic fluently and shes only 9. Up in the hebridean islands, all the road signs are in Gaelic, just like Ireland :)

  • Ye kno why thae is today? Becouse the English after the fight of Culloden moor. They slaughtered evryone who wore tartan played bagpipe or spoke gealic so in those few years they destroyed evrythin. Then im nae talkin aboot the highlander slaves they shipped to amerika colonies. (Lesser than the half arrived allive on the other side).

  • but your so correct i mean wtf people in scottish schools are taught french or german or can take spanish for thier standard grades there is absolutely no course to learn fuckin gaelic personally when i was at school i woulda loved to be taught that i was taught french personally i cant stand the french so i have no need to use it so basically i wasted a good few hours of my life learning something i dinot want to when i could have choosen gaelic

  • Thats the plan if only we can wake the people up to the quisling lies. But it starts at home. Everyone with an interest in the language, politics aside, should endevour to do all they can to learn it.

  • They left somethin worth fightin for ...As a Nation ..We have to look to the Future..Can we stand?!!!

  • We should be sitin on the moor.. Drinkin a pint !!!

  • brilliant idea it4490g!! can i join you? cheers from France!

  • From one Ian to another ,Thanks

  • Fuck football, thats for poofs...this sites for music.

  • Quit squablin' and enjoy. Cheer for upload Iain!

  • great song movingly sung the best version . come away jacobites all!

  • Oh for god sake grow up. Its folk music. Enjoy. your are saddos.

  • not only is it good folk music but part of killiekrankie (spelling i know) was actualy written By Robert Burns

  • Here,here.

  • just mind~ kiss king Williams loffe~ than come by Killiecrankie?

    yes William of Orange.

     up with the covenanters

    we are the people

  • Hail hail - here's tae 4 in a row

  • My Granny's favourite video was a Corries compilation, and I remember this particular song from it. Haven't seen this since before she died, 11 years.

Didn't expect to find this. Excellent.

  • PORT

  • ignorant assess rings a bell.

You don't even know when you are listening to a Unionist tune! Kiss King Willies LOFE!

Aye ye better kiss King William of Orange honour than come by Killiecrankie?

these battles were NOT English Vs Scot's majority of the People of Scotland were at WAR against the Highland Rebels and yer Bonnie Dundee, the biggest butcher in Scotland. Do you selfs a favour get a history book and learn, before you all spite bile

  • Sorry my man but you are taking complete shit. The Corries sing Jacobite songs. Do you even know what a Jacobite is??

Oh and by the way, HAIL HAIL to the champions, HAIL HAIL to the champions! 3 in a row and cant wait for No 4!

  • a jacobite is that a mini cream cracker? hey ppl lighten up there more serious things in life man oh n stoppin 4 in a row is deffo wan o them , well done ti ure team buddy no everyone on the other side is bitter

  • nice one dude

  • I know I want independence. But I would like to point out. We already have our independence. England has never, ever had full control over Scotland. They tried to band tartan and the bagpipes, but we still have them. They tried to destroy the clans but they still exist. They tried to kill Gaelic. But yet it fights on. They have no real power over us. So we should get home rule for our country. As after all, it is ours, not theirs.

  • "they have no real power over us"apart from the fact we pay out taxes to westminster,we all speak the queens english, need i go on ?

  • You know what? If football and its adherent bigots were to be banned all together, independance might just happen. Jesus! There are certain elements in England WAITING for us to become a sad, pathetic and divided people so they will be proven right. Enjoy the music, teach the history and work for a free, independant and bigot free Scotland!

  • We want our FREEDOM! It's the only way forward.

  • Im from the southern united states I can simpathise with what oppressive reconstruction of a people means. Everyone deserves thier heritage.

  • Chubb..don't be a daft wee boy and just enjoy the music eh!

  • independance all the way as the songs say we fought and died for. fuck the english, im scots through and through. i despise admiting im british its a joke. the real ira there after independance so are the scots .

  • And The Picts are looking for to get shot of the whole bloody lotta of you. Independance All The Way. Awa and fight the romans and leave us b.We are sick Kicking your sorry ignorant assess.

  • Is it just me that thinks we will crash and burn if we go it alone. At the moment we have the power and might of the british union. What would independance actually bring us. Will it make our lifes better? I doubt it

  • our oil money for one, we brought in 40 bill one year sent it aw down tae westminster and got 10 back hink wit we would av down with that

  • im a scot and all i want is indapendace for us but the facts are that it breaks even, whats we give the english they give us back so that cannie be used in the argument

  • Seriously pal; do a bit of research. There's more than enough to keep us going and in a far better fiscal situation than we're currently in. And lets not forget that Scotland's money wouldn't be getting distributed among 55m odd people, but rather around 5.5m people. Google the case for independence etc. you'll probably be surprised at just how much we have that so few people know about.

  • I assume paul1916 you were commenting on the rangers celtic match. You are such a loyal fan you dont even realise its on Saturday and not Sunday.

Please leave your football related comments somewhere else

Any comments on The Corries music are wholly welcome

Bigotted Religious football related rubbish is certainly not

    INDEPENDANT SCOTLAND NOW................

  • Mon the Hoops - intae the Unionist huns oan Sunday

  • I know that mate. Its the morons who dont even realise how daft they sound. nevermind eh!

  • sky tv have the rights to any scottish club in the c/l its nothing to do wi rangers or celtic favoritism anyhoo the bbc are aw tadgers

  • whats this got to do wi rangers and celtic.?? EJITS

  • totally agree its got fuck all to do wi football quite shit when u have to explain some stuff though just to set record straight

  • Has anybody visted killie/cran. Like countless others i stood and said never ,no way did he jump that. But then again if you,ve got a number of mad heelanders after you with their claymores, maybe just maybe.Lovley place though.

  • I thought this was a music video. I didnt realise The Braes O Killiecrankie had any reference to football.

  • Paul1916 & spr65

I associate the old firm with divide and conquer We're divided and England conquered us

The BBC have shown all Rangers games in Europe this year and not one Celtic game. Unionism is dying out The BBC are trying to keep it going

  • the bbc have not shown all the rangers games.....they've only shown their UEFA cup games as that's what they have the rights to. stop being so paranoid mate. this is coming from a dons fan by the way.....!

  • jamiew243

so the BBC have shown nearly all Rangers games in Europe No matter how you look at it they've shown Not One Celtic European game

It's not paranoia to point out that the BBC aren't going to show any of the Scottish teams qualifiers for the coming world cup, but i bet they'll have English qualifiers. Face it Jamie Scotlands getting a raw deal out of the BBC. from a Killie fan

  • The BBC have shown the huns games cos they can't afford the Tic games - onward and upward - keep the faith.

  • You people should really grow up, the bitterness on both sides is shamefull. Go to nationalist/republican websites and spout your vitriolic shite there. Leave us normal people alone. SCOTS AND PROUD

  • dinnae ken anyin in scotland that calls themselvs a brit ask anyin in scotland and they reply scottish, heck id be welsh before being a brit lol

  • Deprived of their culture, deprived of seeng the national team playing their countries national sport, what use is the BBC to the youth of Scotland. Apart from feeding them Unionist Propaganda.

  • The only reason I know of the Corries is i'm old enough to have seen them. Why does BBC Scotland never play them on any of their Celtic Music radio shows. Young Scots are not getting the chance to hear their music.

Why does BBC Scotland never show Scottish International football games young, people can't go into pubs to watch the games on SKY

  • just wondering if anyin kens if hes useing a pic tae play?

  • :D:D:D my childhood songs:D:D<3<3<3 great!!

  • I was luck enough to see them live in Germany in the 70s they were fatastic
