Great Video, I do however suggest that you go into the camera menu and find AGC (auto gain control). If you set it to 18db or 12db it will get rid of the grain. 12db is recommended as the sweet spot for brightness and grain. 18db makes the image brighter but has more grain than 12db.
I looked for that setting but couldn't seem to find it on my HF200. Is it located under the 'func' button area or am I looking in the completely wrong place? I'm trying to find the best possible settings for night recording of city streets while moving (albeit moving very slowly) and that setting would probably make a big difference, and improvement, for what I'm wanting to do. Thanks for any info and tips/hints.
I'm looking between a Sanyo Vpc-Fh1, Sony Hdr-cx100, and this Canon. They're all about the same price.. can anyone tell me which out of the three will rank the highest in overall quality also considering low light performance?
In a review I read, this camera has poor low light performance. I'm a novice when it comes to this, but judging from the video, does it demonstrate its poor performance ('cause it looked only okay)? How does the low level performance compare with other consumer mid-range cameras? Thanks.
@Delpheno2K7 actually, there is quite possibly not a single camera below a thousand dollars that has good performance in low light situations, so unless you have a big budget, you're gonna have to settle with semi-good low light images.
To every one here worried about low light, Narutotjuhh is 100% right. Five grand and up is what I figure you pay for a high end camera. But there is currently a video denoise plug in called Neat video that's said to be the best on the market. If you know what you're doing, it could be the answer to your problem. They have a demo of it here on Youtube. Just search for "Neat Video Plug-in Demonstration", and tell me what you think. Good video editing can even the odds. It's worth taking a look.
true .. wish I got a hf20 because of that. You also got the fact you have to watch out what card you buy and were from. I got scammed on e bay for $30 on a card. It was a fake . Id say if some one was buying go for hf20
listen everyonen if uwant the best night hd without any kind of noise its the canon hf100 with cine mode , if u dont use the cine mode its like ur shootingn with any other normal camera , it can even be sony t1 lol :)
yeah, but without this cine mode u wll have plenty of noise which is very very bad , if u dont use this cine mode to remove the noise then buy a sony t1
you may very well be correct, i have not yet used the camera, it's good to know. sony did recently release a camera good in low light with a better sensor. for anyone who is looking for nice night capture. Sony HDR-CX500v. they say '1/2.88 Exmor R CMOS sensor for superb low-light video', and customers seem happy with night videos for once. it costs about $1000, but looks like it solves the low light issue.
Also I took some outdoors videos and noticed the sky was too white on the video ( I'm using a UV pro filter) do u think a polarizer should solve the problem ?
hey, I bought the hf200 with a pro pack and have a wide angle also, it's a 0.45 professional titanium wide angle with macro high def.... the problem is that when I put this W-A on my hf200 I notice a black circle around the video as if the W-A lens was smaller which is not the case as I have a 37MM wide angle. When I zoom in X1 the circle disappear but this is not a solution as I loose the adv of using a wide angle. Is there a way around this problem ??
The wide angle lens I use is a Kenko 0.42x Wide - KUW-042 PRO. I've owned this lens for years and don't think it's available anymore. As far as quality, it suffers from barrel distortion on the wide end and goes soft on the zoom end plus the typical lens flare in direct light.
I'd consider buying the Canon lens except it lacks the thread mount on the front of the lens... so no way to mount filters, hood etc!

20/200 mean 20 and 200 they r the same exept what comes with it

hf20 comes with 32gb memory inside.. 200 doesnt..
if you look at it, buying a 200 and 32gb mem would cost alittle more money than just buying the hf 20 buy it self..

even people say low light performance of hf100 is so so, also cine mode is just for looks. "Use 24P mode to achieve a 'cinema' look".

yeah, but without this cine mode u wll have plenty of noise which is very very bad , if u dont use this cine mode to remove the noise then buy a sony t1
or any camera with less than 50 $

Hmm, somehow the HF10 looks better in term lowlight.

Love the deep blacks and zoom on the flag. My HF200 seems very noisy in low light or very jittery rather than smooth.

very nice video.. love the vibe with the city and the jazzy music.
what lens did you purchase for your hf200? im looking into the canon .37 but yours seems to be high quality and gives a wider angle.
