The reason why Nickelback chose the other ending is because it's easier to understand.

In the other ending, the moment when she crashes and appears as a ghost and hugs his boyfriend is the moment when you understand that the boy was also a ghost all along, in this ending is more difficult to grasp that idea, and you may end like - "*WTF?* why didn't she died, why didn't she see him?"

Here's for all you guys who are confused about this ending: The girl who just crashed her car is unharmed while walking away. Then while she's looking at the people watching her, her boyfriend who's really dead sneaks up behind her and comforts her but she doesn't notice him. In the orignal ending to this video after the car accident, she IS a ghost after the accident and reunited with her boyfriend who's a ghost too. In this one: she's NOT dead.

Wow, Bring Me To Life is a great audio track for this video. I've watched the original video with the other ending a few times, listening to Nickelback's song and never actually picked up the true meaning of the video. That's quite amazing how much it changes the focus. Thanks for posting this (even though it was ages ago now!)
