Those kinds of games still get released often in Japan. It is just dumbass American publishers think we don't like old school shooters.

They have marketing people. Marketing people know all. Haha. Im half-kidding. But I assume they know what they're doing..they do base this stuff on sales. If theres not enough demand, they dont release it. Just cause you and some of your friends (and myself), like vertical shooters, doesnt mean its enough to warrant a development team to a new game. Lots of money involved.

Exactly, all they think we care about is the Tony-Halo-Auto franchises, stuff I wouldn't be caught dead playing. All these stupid "I had to take down the syndicate" Grand Theft Ghetto rip-offs make my skin crawl!

Another genre I loathe is all these man-in-a-space-suit-fights-mut­ants-and-zombies games coming out these days (especially on 360). "Oh look, blood and gore!". Too bad the game is SLOW, BORING, AWKWARD TO CONTROL, AND DID I MENTION BORING?!?

Haha, I think Halo is a pretty great series. Tony Hawk..was great. Now just overdone/unnecessary. Same with GTA..but thats my opinion.

And yeah, I'd agree with you on the surplus of stupid shit games. Cmon, we've had enough blood and gore games. Theres so much you can do with a video game, why just produce that shit for the millionth time? I know I will sound like an old fucker her, but I think with gaming haven gotten bigger, the amount of substance overall has decreased.

I HATE gore too, it's just plain stupid. Sometimess the people gush like a fruit gusher (wait fruit gushers don't gush well, they kinda suck at gushing)anyway, there like sprinklers: You just don't know how all that water can fit into the small little thing.

I wouldn't count on that. With system updates, Nintendo now has tight control over region locking. They already did it once with FreeLoader. It no longer works after the last update.

Yeah, it seems that way. It reminds me of how some of the old-school RPGs back in the day wouldn't come over here. We may have to wait years to get what we want out of this genre on our side of the lake :/
