One of the last movies that are typically Czech, not a copy of the Hollywood style.

You can smell traces of the 1980 movie Postřižiny (Cutting It Short) by the same director -Menzel, based on a novel from the same writer -Hrabal.

@Franzthekiwi I think you could find the subtitles on the internet if you look hard enough. I know for sure there's the whole Cosy Dens (Pelíšky) movie with English subtitles on youtube! Another great movie remembering the communist regime would be The Blissful Years of Lousy Living (Báječná léta pod psa).

The pinnacle of Czech humor is Jára Cimrman, but Czech language plays such an important part in these jokes that I'm affraid to reccomend it to you in case of a bad translation.

Hrabal byl zvlastni postava. Humanista, mel fantastickej pozorovaci talent, byl to basnik miniatur a detailu. Umel udelat zasadni udalost i z drhnuti hrnce po mejdanu pri bolehlavu. Nebo z povzdechu MUKLa, jestli jsme opravdu museli odsunout tri miliony spoluobcanu jen proto, ze to byli nemci, jak zaznelo v tomhle filmu. Tenhle film vlastne oslavuje cloveka na pozadi tragickych dejin, kterej se chova racionalne a dle svyho nejlepsiho vedomi a svedomi a chova se normalne uprostred silenyho sveta.
