  • you might installed win7 first on a different computer and used the hard drive with pentium system with win7 already installed on HDD

  • I got 7 running on an old ATHLON 700mhz with 768mb of ram, fx5200 graphics and gigabit ethernet, runs like a champ!

  • Well, my old P2 233 could run XP, and people keep telling me that W7 actually runs better than XP, so I guess it's possible.

  • 256 mb with aero??!.... thats imposible!!

  • @uaujuan Aero is DISABLED dude, can't you see ? Aero does all the awesome 3D animations and transparency of the windows... here the window just pops in and is not transparent...

  • @bigsteamfan jaja, ok but I thought that with only 256 mb of memory you could only work with all graphics effects off!

  • Yes, it can be. With about 256MB RAM and Win 7 Pro, we can use Avira Internet Security and Web game. Follow my videos to see those. Thanks

  • you installed windows with 512mb of ram... i know it because i've done it!! XD

  • All who say that they dont believe this are retarded. My old PII 266Mhz w/ 128MB RAM ran Windows XP Pro like nothing. WIndows 7 is relaxed on requirements. As long as you have 256MB like he does and a decent graphics card, it will run no problem.

  • pentium 2 looks like a ram..

  • I don't think that I can believe this.

  • @Remi1115 - I will admit it is a tad hard to believe... on the other hand, look at how slow it runs. I am likely going to try this again once I can find another working Pentium II box. This one has since been thrown out. Lol.

  • @dctmpeg

    Ok :P .

  • that's so boss

  • Well done but Is stupid upgrade a pentium II to W7 ultimate because only can run old programs not compatible with W7.

  • U CHEATED!

  • Windows experience rating = -10!

  • @jewie27 Windows Experience Rating = OVER -9000!!!!!!!

  • @NatalieTrannie Oh come on man! It was a joke, no harm intended what so ever.

  • The problem is when you need a util machine, install antivirus, enable firewall, java update in memory, etc and then ger a slow machine ever ;)

  • But the main question is, can it play Crysis 2 with the new DX11 Patch and Hi-Res Textures?

  • @Ilikelandrovers I herd you liek mudkips.

  • @Ilikelandrovers why don't u use a little common sense and think real hard about what the hell will happen if u put crysis 2 on a Pentium 2.[ answer is NO IT WILL FUCKING EXPLODE!]

  • @shadow444222 Well why don't YOU use a little common sense and think real hard that he is JOKING.

  • @sharinganZuko dose it look like i give a shit?

  • @shadow444222 Lol i heard that when people get owned they use those shitty ass comebacks

  • @sharinganZuko yeah and i heard you like butt sex. ohh what now mofo got ya good didn't I lol.

  • @shadow444222 lol...

  • holy shit wtf...

  • wow, i never thought i would see a cpu mounted on an expansion card running a 2009 operating system

  • I hope you have really good cooling on that P-II. It's going to run at or near 100% a lot.

  • TEnane dulll?????? ndan tenan kuwi pentium II ????

  • System Ranking 0.1 xD

  • I like how this is running aero, which has no chance in hell of running on a PII.

  • @brainslay3r 0.o its not

  • @brainslay3r

Aero is video card dependent. As long as you have a DX9 video card, you can run Aero effects.

  • This is a cool video. It's a bit of fun and I take my hat off to the author for putting this together - the fact you can now buy some essentially cheap parts, way cheaper than what this system would originally have cost, and run the latest and greatest is testament to the hardware makers.

It means people don't have to put up with this kind of performance, a real change from the days I had to run Windows 95 on my 486 DX2/80 - so much better today and so much more available to everyone.

  • @Hekomatsu

Yeah, mine runs slow with XP too. It's a it's a slot-loading Coppermine.

  • I can still surf the net with Windows 95 , I repeated this with Win 7 but with 512 & it works Great but for the Video Drivers , need to use the Dell Driver , also put 7 on a Plll & 4 with a little better results :) QC

  • WOW.. LOOK AT MY VID.. I GOT 4GB THOUGHT.

  • p2 runs insane for it's time

  • i would install windows 98 considering the lag lol

  • It should run faster with a modern PCI graphics (or an AGP card with windows 7 drivers) card and a proper driver. Without a graphics driver, the cpu has to do all the graphics stuff of windows 7.

  • Wow. I was watching this on my gaming rig, 6 cores, ssd, 12gb ram, this is just painfully slow haha. Props to you sir, the pentium 2 isnt all that bad :P

  • @JackomanTheThird

    Are you bragging or something?

  • @JackomanTheThird 12GB ram..WOW your pc must be really fast

  • @JackomanTheThird srsly 6 cores? jaysus

  • @shinyfuzzy Hell yes :D

I do a lot of video encoding, and it really helps to have that extra grunt

  • @JackomanTheThird cool beans man! i have 1. 2.8 ghz 1gb ram 40gb hdd and some old nvidia graphics card. it works for what i do lol

  • yo tengo un pentium 2 y le puse el xp profesional y anda muy bien , es obvio que se lentisa en algunas sircuntancias pero no tanto es de 350 y de 128 MB ram y 64 de video , saludos

  • not slow for a p2

  • awesome

  • how big is the hard drive? What hard drive used to be in that machine?

  • If the USB works ,try a USB ethernet connection , I don't know if it will work...

  • What's the Max Ram Supported on the p2?

  • @mrjamesb562 max 768ram on windows 2000 , windows 98 only supports max 512mb of ram.

  • My Pentium 3 back then can't even handle Windows XP. How in the world like this happened?!

  • @jacosalem28 Depends on what pentium 3. A regular pentium 3 will be around 600-700mhz, coppermine will be around 800mhz, and a coppermine with MMX technolegy will be around 800mhz but can be overclocked to 1 ghz :) It depends.

  • @jacosalem28 66Mhz Pentium 1 was able to handle Win XP... Your P3 wasn't configured corretly....

  • @jacosalem28 My Pentium 3 handled XP quite well. I used to game with that thing back in 2004.

  • @jacosalem28 My Pentium 3 handled XP quite well. I used to game with that thing back in 2004.

  • @jacosalem28 @jacosalem28 My Pentium 3 handled XP quite well. I used to game with that thing back in 2004.

  • @jacosalem28 @jacosalem28 My Pentium 3 handled XP quite well. I used to game with that thing back in 2004..

  • @jacosalem28 @jacosalem28 My Pentium 3 handled XP quite well. I used to game with that thing back in 2004..

    .

  • @jacosalem28 cpu alone doesn't mean a thing(on its own that is). Slap in a newer harddrive(for the os) and you'll see that it's not that bad... (windows is hard on hdd usage)

  • lol ...sssllllloooowww

  • der gute alte pentium der hört sich an wie ein staubsauger

  • lol dude

  • HAHA!! Love it!! I bet I could guess the "experiance index" on that! This is deffinitly real.

  • Why do they make the "basic" themes so ugly? IT might be basic, but they could use better colors at least

  • i have same card ethernet 3com 3C905-TX

  • Get new

    • Graphics

    • Sound

    • Ethernet

    • Wireless

cards and try to have a blast with Aero.

  • play crysis on that pc :D

  • it LIVES!!!!!! lol

  • How well would windows 7 run on :

    amd athlon xp 2200+ (1.79ghz)

    1.25GB ddr 333 (i think it is 333 :P)

    ati radeon 9600

    thanks

  • @reixo man i have that specs. and run good, sometimes slow but good :D

  • @CamoteMaster Yeah but compared to an XP install how would it compare?

  • @reixo emmmm i dunno! xD but win 7 are the bread!.....what i say?

  • @reixo

Windows 7 will run well with your listed specifications. Even Vista can handle an AMD Athlon XP processor. :)

I have two AMD Athlon XP processor-based computers, and I experimented with Windows Vista and 7. I was impressed that it detected everything with both operating systems, especially Windows 7. Although, you might see some lag when running Adobe Flash. :p

  • @reixo not too bad

  • you can play left 4 dead in this computer...it really works...

  • this is dell computer ?

  • You sir, are awesome.

  • I wouldn't do this to an everyday PC. Its pretty slow, even nothing running. However, its a great proof of concept. Glad you tried this out mate.

  • windows 7 is boss

  • Optiplex GX1 is a hell of a computer thay whare bilt tuff. and actuley with some tweaks you can get it to run a little better bud look for windows 7 tweaks on youtube.

  • How did you install under 256 Plz respond I need this for a laptop with 256 And its error Not enough ram or something,

  • first off you need a few tweaks after installing and secend i cant rember it but look on the inter net foir the command to install windows 7 on low ram systems.

  • you wnt be able to don anithin with that windows installed windows 7 is great but you will not have aero or something like that and lets not speak about games

  • alter schwede das der pc das schaft ja damals waren die intel hersteller schön sauber und halten eine menge aus wie mein p4

  • i would do that if i only took my old pc with me

  • i just dug up an old windows 98 computer with a pentium ii 233 with 256 megs, slapped a few 3dfx voodoo 2's in it and made a old SLI gaming rig. :)

  • ur better off with xp mate!

  • I just dug up my Dell Dimension XPS R400, which features a 400MHz Pentium II and 384MB RAM. I was going to attempt installing xubuntu on it, but the CD didn't burn correctly AGAIN!!

So here I am on youtube, running Windows 98 FIRST edition, watching this video a 4FPS. LMAO... (I don't normally use this machine for anything serious BTW).

  • You are a great man and you proved it. Thank you for opening my eyes to the old world.

  • what is 0:19 ?? a ethernet card¿

  • @chabelito1992 video card i think

  • haha and i thought my p4 512mb ram with aero was givin me a hard time!

  • my friend you can install windows 7 lite or any Version on pentium 2 yes will Boot Fine but let me ask you Someting how fast a penitum2 is with windows 7 not fast enough right ?Because 256MB IS nothing for 7 ,i will Recomend you a penitum 3 1ghz ,512mb then install windows 7 tiny for good Windows 7

  • @MikesNetwork I believe he's just doing it for fun~

  • I've installed Windows 7 on a Pentium 3 before.... but never on a pentium 2...... and due to the old hardware... its really tough finding drivers that even bother to work....

  • i have

    Ram 512 MB

Processor AMd Sempron 2500+ 1.75 GHz

Asus a9550 series with 128 MB VRAM

AERO WORKS GREAT FOR ME WITHOUT ANY LAGS!!!!

  • this is crazy.

with 500MHz CPU 64MB GPU and 512 MB ram this system would run just fine

    Nice video il try this.

  • holy shit its slow lol

  • Sweet dude !

  • tss no ma esta cabron, que bien que bien maestro!!!!!,,,

  • That means they named of those Pentium 2 computer in Windows 7's user, DINOSAUR?

  • It can't be used an Aero?

  • system rateing plz?

  • enjoy your integrated ati rage pro. did you install crysis yet?

i actually have a Gigabyte GA-5SMM motherboard. it's a socket 7 mini-atx. i am using a Cyrix MII processor @ 250 MHz. the performance of the MII chips per clock cycle is substantially better than what the intel pentium 1 chips had, it should be pretty similar in speed to your pentium 2 there.

but anyway, yeah i'm running Windows 7 RTM on that. :)

i had a full install, but it was too slow. i trimmed it with vLite and it works fine

  • with what video camera did you film that?

  • @rocools - A Canon HV-30.

  • bluddy hell!! now thats impresive.

  • That must have been a aweful system to work with. I did have a system similar to that just recently.

  • Well what's the point? Technical challenge, that's it."Revive" old hardware probably not, it's unusable. If you want to "revive" something <= Pentium 3 I would recommend some suitable Linux distribution like DamnSmallLinux. Personally I use a Pentium MMX 266mhz 48Mb Ram laptop for CAS, programming, etc quite successfully. For anything faster, some modern distro will work quite well.... yes, if you want to use modern software on your AthlonXP or whatsoever, you'll have to use Linux. XP will die.

  • This video defines insanity. I like it.

  • I have an athlon xp 2200 + 1gb memory + GF FX5500 256mb + 80gb HD

it's ran on XP since the 1st day I used used it

But then last week I decided to install windows 7, believe me or not people, it's way faster!

And it's not cause I formatted, cause I had it formatted with XP pro 1 week earlier =P

  • @cd1str013r CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME ON MY LAPTOP??? CAUSE IN THE MIDDLE OF WIN 7 INSTALLATION IT HANGS! I'VE GOT A 1.4 GHZ PROCESSOR THEN 756 MB RAM THEN 40 GB HARD RIVE! SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME!

  • @andy2xx Is your Win 7 legit?

if not, did you select the option "Data verification" or similar when you burned your disc?

that should be the problem if you didn't

I hope this tip helps you, it sux when you can't install an OS and it renders your PC useless...

  • fake

  • use ubuntu instead

  • Disabling the UAC would definitely help you.

  • WIN!! :D awesome!

  • windows fucking sucks

  • this makes my Pentium 4 1.6ghz , PC133 1GB Ram looks fast..

  • my dell gx1 runs at 1400mhz!!

    with biosversion a05

with a 128mb pci card and scsi 160 card

    768 ecc ram

    wonderfull machine

    i love him

  • Whoops PC100 & PC133, thats asking for a disatster.

  • @wj0102 Its PC100.

  • omg, amazing :D

  • very slow, install linux to best advantage

  • its for experiment.. not for using i think.

  • LOL!!! DDR1 PC133

  • @wj0102 pc133 is an sd ram lol

  • @wj0102 It SDRAM PC133 not DDR1.

  • @3ogdy i also have it on my laptops a PII and PIII have both SD ram

  • not fast ... but it runs.

  • omg how did you get that to go so well lol

  • hahah it sorta runs lol...

  • anyone want a motherboard+p2+hard drive cables for whatever price anyone can give me ;D

    something, someone, somewhere

  • hmmm interesting what the specs?

  • i don't know the specs. Also I do not have the correct psu that can power it. When it was used it worked great with win 3.1. It has no memory installed, no graphic card & no back-plate. I am asking any price, ranging from ~$50 (shipping) to whatever you feel is a good price ;).

  • @bmw2go11 ill give you a few breadcrumbs...deal? xD

  • @dickheadofdoom today your user-name shines with justice xD

And no, im not selling anymore, the board will be used as a dummy for my next custom pc, i am planing on making a video of the build with my new cam i just got :D!!!

  • Bazzinga!!! o.0

  • It looks great here. I have 533mhz celeron mendocino with ati rage 128 pro with win2k installed there. Everything works great - internet is fast, for example.

  • I've just installed windows 7 from my Windows xp pc, which is now 4 years old had it since new, works great but cant find any graphics drivers for it so the display is Sh#t, any sugestions???

  • find out if your pc can hold AGP or pci-express, then get a card, (at least 128 mb)

  • Either Go To The Website For The Graphics Card Or Go To Device And It Will Search And Try To Find The Drivers Automatically

  • Go to your computer manufacturer's website and try to locate the driver there.

  • HAHAHA THIS SHIT IS AWESOME

  • THAT HD IS A MONSTER!

  • Comment removed

  • Hey this is fast ^^

  • the same in mines a mess of wires.

  • oh i was just curious its not my main computer =D

so doesn't really matter if i do get it installed

  • I think your problem also shows on my computer...My screen turns blue and has notes in it "Dumping Physical memory" thats what it says then restart...i think the RAM Usage was maxed thats why it turns blue

  • hmm mite be that but it quickly turns blue then restarts

  • thats mad cool

    1 problem i have though

i tried to install windows 7 on a P3 1ghz wit 384 mb of ram and after its near completion it restarts loads then blue screen and restarts

any1 got an idea why that happens?

    btw its an Emachines t3100

  • Could be faulty RAM perhaps... or something to do with the motherboard, has the previous version of Windows that was installed worked well?

  • yea windows xp works good on it

  • pentiumⅡ266Mhz,256MBでwindows7動かしてるwwwwどんだけ、マニアなんだ?っかこのスペックで普通に動いてるのが凄い。

  • Comment removed

  • lol i have 256ram xp pro lol i can't wait for christmas NEW COMPUTER WOOT

  • lol ikm getting a new comp to YAY

  • LOL looks like windows 7 revives dead computers LOL

  • to bad it doesent work on my pentium 2

  • Too bad it's slow as shit.

    I'll stick with Vista.

  • Vista wouldnt even install on that thing. Its a pentium 2 with 256mb ram. It probably had windows 95 or 98 on it when it was new, over 10 years old! The fact that it can even run windows 7 is amazing.

  • damm homie vista is even slower than this video

  • hahaha youll stick with vista ive been doing alot of looking into this and so far vista looks to be one poor excuse of an os its out performed by almost all other versions its better than me and 2000 in my opinion but not by much. do youreself a favour and get xp or 7 youll notice a decent performance increase. mind you im not trying to say that you should like those better as everyone has personal preferences and that is just how it is

  • nice

  • Pentium of cartridge BIG LOL

    Where the aero efects dude?

    lol
