Tauber first portrayed Schubert in Das Dreimaderlhaus in June 1921 at the Theatre an der Wien. He toured widely in Europe with the show, and brought it to London in 1933. This resulted in a contract for the film 'Blossom Time' in 1934.
There were further stage versions - including one in 1941, for which he wrote two new songs: Love comes at Blossom Time, and First Love is Best Love.
His last stage appearances in the role were at London's Lyric Theatre in the Spring of 1942.
