@12moshpit It's true. High-Speed Rail is the safest mode of travel in the world. There has never been a passenger death on any dedicated high speed track in the world, ever. However, there was one accident on shared (freight+high speed trains) in Germany in 1995. But that's it.
@gibb1991 Brilliant because i have been in Eurostar and ICE ( Intercity Express ) It is very confortable and awesome. But the thing is if there is a collision with an another train how good are the safety systems ?
@12moshpit Such collisions are nearly impossible. Trains at those speeds are required to have PTC (Positive Train Control) in which trains communicate with one another via GPS or, in the case of the TGV, trains communicate with one another using electronic pulses of information through the rails themselves. Every trains computer knows exactly where each train is, what speed it is traveling at, and how heavy the train is. In an emergency, the computer can calculate evasive actions.

@cyndie26 the japanese JR-Maglev is faster than TGV; TGV went 574.8 km/h and the JR-Maglev went 581 km/h.

@lukestarspeeder I'm very, very well aware of that having traveled in many other countries. But we COULD if we decided to.
The simple explanation is that the automotive industry pre-empted expenditure on public transportation after WWII.

Safety precautions say wear seatbelts. I like how none of them are wearing any seatbelts.. they KNOW they'll die if anything goes wrong.
