@12moshpit It's true. High-Speed Rail is the safest mode of travel in the world. There has never been a passenger death on any dedicated high speed track in the world, ever. However, there was one accident on shared (freight+high speed trains) in Germany in 1995. But that's it.

Trains at those speeds are required to have PTC (Positive Train Control) in which trains communicate with one another via GPS or, in the case of the TGV, trains communicate with one another using electronic pulses of information through the rails themselves. Every trains computer knows exactly where each train is, what speed it is traveling at, and how heavy the train is. In an emergency, the computer can calculate evasive actions.
