Walmart does offer a large amount of jobs to the towns/cities they reside in, but they're also wiping out alot of smaller buisnesses with better quality and more locally manufactured producs. Most if not all the products purchaced by Walmart come from China and other countries, this in turn taking more important, higher paying, jobs away from many Canadians and Americans.

We had Wal-Mart do almost the same thing in Yakima Washington. The town had managed to put it off for about 2 years, but then they sent in their lawyers and it was to expensive to take to court. So, Wal-Mart won in our town thru threat of lawsuits.

You're missing the point - There is little business in small towns because of the giant corporate box stores that force the small businesses to close. What good are jobs if they don't pay enough for workers to live or have medical benefits. What often happens is these people still have to get public assistance and it ends up costing taxpayers more. Well done doc.. Wallyworld has gotten to the point they can put a store anywhere they want to. But I live in a town where most of the people wanted a big superstore there. Wal-Mart was planning to build it on the southside of town, but the mayor convinced them to build it in the middle of the city near downtown...so people would have to drive into town. I agree with Johnny that the people who bitch and moan about them coming into town will eventfully shop there.
