I hate to be disparaging, but if this is supposed to be an example of real kenjutsu, both of you have left your legs unguarded, and I saw no attempt to attack them. You are still using the snap type of shots typically used in kendo instead of the fully commited cuts that are necessary to truly cut an opponent. Also, the style of movement used is also the typical stagger step of kendo as opposed to the yin yang form of movement nornally done in kenjutsu.
You wear white to show off your rank? After 9 years you have a rank worthy of recognition? What the fuck are you going on about?
I've been doing kendo since age 8 (9 years) I'm sandan and I'm gonna tell you now, that's fake kendo. It's total shit and there's no explaining it away.
I have been doing Kendo for about 2 years and as far as kenjutsu goes I was doing katori shinto ryu for about 5 years. you shouldnt let your sensi lead you to beleave that this is a true art. With things being how they are today I am sure you can find a dojo close to you. no mater if it is kenjutsu, iaido, or kendo. The basics will be the same and thats what you guys seem to need are some good basics. Maybe your sensi will follow you.
To the people posting rude comments you show great disrespect to other people who are trying to keep the martial art alive... Its quite ludacris to say who should beat another or whom is better if you were great you'd say "I know nothing" instead of acting like a master. Those of you out there drop your swords please. keep at it man I want to see how you've grown =)

im sorry but i have to call this out= even if this is kenjutsu, the basics are still same as kendo- good fight but it really doesnt have the feeling of a swordfight in it and your forms all screwed up
well i just figure if you can kick their ass with a shinai you can do it with a sword. because the way these guys are fighting they wouldnt be likely to even touch a good kendoka.
Not entirely true. Kendoka's are also called "Shinai Warriors" because they only have to hit with the shinai. Making a straight cut with a katana is more than hitting someone on the hands, head, shoulders or stomach.
in the end what i do know is that these guys are kinda clueless, as i would beat them and some kendoka i know would uterly destroy them. they arent even holding the sword corectly i can see that right thru their kote.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
As stated before, it's not kendo. It's kenjutsu. Kendo is the sport many know, but the idea behind kendo is that it is a 'sport', although most from Nippon will not call it such. Kenjutsu is the study of the way of wielding a blade in combat, NOT simply going for points. Doing it in kendo equipment probably cuts back on the amount of welts/bruises/scratches that come from using shinai in practice. God bless.
I can't agree that Kendo is not a pure 'sport'. kendo is half sport and half martial arts base. Kendo has the concept and spirit of warrior. I also cannot see how you express what kenjutsu is. If you are expressing kenjutsu, i believe you can punch or kick your partner because it is about live or death. why don't you use the topic like niten kenjutsu instead of niten Kendo sparring kenjutsu. do u really know what is kenjutsu.
I was under the impression that kenjutsu was the Nipponese martial art dealing with the use of the sword (nodachi), although many kenjutsu schools also practiced techniques with the jitte, bo, and 'empty-hand' techniques, including karate.
I could be wrong, but that is how I understand it. And you are correct, in true kenjutsu you would have to be capable of using every weapon at your disposal, just as we soldiers today are required to learn how to use every weapon available to us. God bless.
Everybody keeps arguin' about styles. It's like what my homie Huo Yuanjia said, "All Wushu is the same my niggas. It's all about your own individual skill."
are you kidding me of this nidan fight, they have forgotten one of the most important thing - fumi-komi. i doubt that how they passed shodan. there is no ippon in this fight.
I think it was already established that this was not meant as the sport of kendo. It was training kenjutsu in kendo equipment. As I seem to recall reading from others who are experienced in formal kendo, getting whacked by a shinai hurts like hell, so if you are not in a match, but rather looking to test the techniques of kenjutsu with shinai, it makes sense to have protection, doesn't it? God bless.
Musashi lol.... i was looking to buy a Katana to day and i found a website thats praticly dedicated to him lool.and if u dont know how to do anything in the art u cant teachyourself.
haha!!!"Hit me up if you thnki i am so easy"?!. MAN I LOVE YOURE STYLE x3!! I will honored if i could just fight with you when I become more skillfull swordman x3!! wHAAA how old are u anyway =o?! (the time pass quick!! and im only 18 years old XD!!!)
I just want every1 too know that i learned that myu school was a fake and I left there and taught myself. to prove it I want to compete in a real swordmanship competition be it kendo or other. Hit me up if you thnki i am so easy.
I assume that there was some sort of debate here about how your style was illegitimate, and I wasn't around here for it so I can't comment. Regardless, it is not a good idea for someone who has not learned proper fighting techniques from a legitimate instructor to branch off and teach him or herself.
Ahh! So I'm not the only one to use a squash court on occasion, but you do get some strange looks from the squash people when you come out with a Sword!
wat the hell is this, no fumikomi ashi, no ki-ken-tai icchi, absolutely horrendous posture, not to mention all the jumping around..... none of those hits would've counted as a point in a match

You actually can strike at the left wrist, but it would be done just as he has done here; Faking the Men (so the other guy will try to cover it and make his left wrist vulnerable) and then striking.
This is about club level kendo! It is not up to the standards of championship kendo really. But given the amount of pure kendo stuff here on youtube it will do.
this kendo is pathetic, they take their hands off the tsukagawa and try to grab eachothers shinai, can u say penalty? This is pathetic, they just go at it, no clear mind, and no concentration. embarrasing
wow this is fake. its almost insulting to people who actually do kendo. you win by not continuously hitting the other person. two clean shots can end the match
wow. . u look pretty good. its just that comparing the stance of both of you, you look scared of him. Your body language kinda shows your really nervous and apprehensive.
HI, i am kendoka from spain and my english is very very bad XD lol, de basic diference is the cain of sword used, in fencing you use an europen sword, in kendo the shinai (is a bambu swor that is smilar to a katana) aikido its only an art marcial, in aikido you can use a boken, a boken is a catana made of wood, ina ikido you fight in closo combat whitout sowrds, an you learn how to defend all the atacs you recibe, aikido is a defensicve and paceful marcial art.
Excellent technique...but I am sorry to say that I honestly don't know if you truly have great technique or not...I've never studied Kendo (I would like too, but there are no Kendo schools in my area)...
Great job, and don't sweat the negative comments. People abuse the freedom from accountability this format offers. If they were genuine students of any art, they would have no reason to disrespect your efforts to learn and grow.
Musashi never specifically named Niten Ichi Ryu as literally a two-sword style exclusively. The name speaks toward versatility and commitment, not necessarily the literal using of two weapons. At least, that's my understanding of it.
And finally he claims to practice the Niten Ichi Ryu of Miyamoto Musashi. As far as I know Niten ichi Ru is practiced only one place in North America, and that's at the University of Guelph in Canada and taught by Kim Taylor. I have not had he honor of meeting Mr. Taylor, but I have seen pictures and this guy does no look like him.
Response to KeijiMaeda86: First of all there is no such thing as "sports Kendo". Modern Kendo has some sporting aspects but it is first and foremost budo. Second, I have watched this individuals other videos where he claims to be practicing Iaido, which apparently have been removed. Its clear, if you know anything about Japanese sword arts, that this man is a fraud.
Did ANY of you at all read the description of the video? He specifically says that it is NOT sports kendo, which is what most of you complaining are accostumed to seeing. I consider this to be more legitimate of simulation of a real sword fight. They never stop or other such crap. And in the later half of the video it shows in slow down the body hits and good points. People you should seriously read descriptions before running your filthy mouths.

BTW this is not real kendo. You guys are swinging wildly, have no seme or even basic techniques. I am a Nidan in kendo. You do not wear a color to show rank!!! Also, kendo is not that rare, considering at tournaments in the southeast we have had over 200 people. Get your stuff straight! If you could please tell me where you practice and I will gladly come show you kendo.
This has got to be the worst thing I have ever seen. I have practiced Kendo for seven years. Monkeys can swing shinai too, that doesnt make them good practitioners. Also, What is with the "sensi" (I guess sensei???) banging his shinai on the other ones before the match? Please remove these videos as it makes the rest of us who wear bogu look bad. As for the students in the video, for your own sake, find a real teacher, he needs to be either banned from teaching or at least reported to the AUSKF.
I love how ignorant people with little to no training post comments like they know what they are talking about, or as if they have the knowledge that makes them superior to all others.
trumpetman01. If you are a budo man, you are a poor reflection of your lineage. You should be ashamed of your course comment.
Rei = etiquette, courtesy, civility
Jin = humanity, charity, benevolence
I get what you guys say about technical aspects, but you all must be sleeping during your education re:character. They may be poor technician's (I don't know). But you fellows have poor character...and they can train.
Yeah, most takai are in basketball courts. So a raquetball court is really odd. Or, maybe it serves their purpose and they don't seek out anything else.
woah woah woah, dude, calm down, i was just saying its a general shame that kendo is practiced on raquetball courts or bastketball courts. not like a dishonor shame, but like a pity, style shame. it ought to be done in proper halls. i guess i forgot to put the "a" after what and before shame.
Agreed. It would be great if Kendo caught on as well as say, cheerleading, and function-specific dojo would start popping up. Snob-comment retracted. Happy training.
I'm not sure what they're doing, but it's difficult to guage skill level without gearing up in front of a guy. They're setting up with their shinais on the wrong side which leaves kote open for easy attack. They may be highly skilled fighters but my impression is that they are not properly instructed.
One of the problem of "this kind of fighting" is they need to be very "circular" to be attractive and spectacular. But these movements are too long, takes too much time (in spite of you could think watching this) and they allow tons of chances to be cut. They don't counter attack, just blocking, go back and launching hits. I would like to fence with one of this guys. Just to know their and my effectiveness. Maybe I am wrong and they are right, who knows, but a good kote-men could works
They actually do have several "counter attacks" btw but anyway if you fought them fencing it's a no-brainer you would win (assuming you had arms and could hold a sword) in fencing the sword is so weak you can fling it all you want .
bachleelhcab, you talk a lot of shit about americans for someone who is from a country that lets women in its infantry. dont lecture us on "warrior-ness" you thick fuck.
Because we have all witnessed small arms combat, whether on the news, movies or in real life, so we know that works based on observation. The effectiveness of sword dueling against semi-automatic pistols, rifles and rocket propelled grenades remains to be seen.
I hate to be disparaging, but if this is supposed to be an example of real kenjutsu, both of you have left your legs unguarded, and I saw no attempt to attack them. This is about club level kendo! It is not up to the standards of championship kendo really. But given the amount of pure kendo stuff here on youtube it will do.
bubbleheid 4 years ago
this kendo is pathetic, they take their hands off the tsukagawa and try to grab eachothers shinai, can u say penalty? This is pathetic, they just go at it, no clear mind, and no concentration. embarrasing
ChicagoYakuza 4 years ago
wow this is fake. its almost insulting to people who actually do kendo. you win by not continuously hitting the other person. two clean shots can end the match
MiraSeth 4 years ago
wow. . u look pretty good. its just that comparing the stance of both of you, you look scared of him. Your body language kinda shows your really nervous and apprehensive.

I NEED HELP!!!...you guys...i need help...what''s the difference between aikido, kendo, and fencing??but i know a little sometin about fencing though
ionfreak93 4 years ago

If they were genuine students of any art, they would have no reason to disrespect your efforts to learn and grow.

but kickass u guys look pretty skilled
ive been into kenjutsu since i was six
fun shit
cloudyboy 4 years ago
Musashi never specifically named Niten Ichi Ryu as literally a two-sword style exclusively. The name speaks toward versatility and commitment, not necessarily the literal using of two weapons. At least, that's my understanding of it.

I thought Niten Ichi Ryu of Miyamoto Musashi was specificaly his techniques for using two swords? Or no?
drunkenirishpunk 4 years ago
Double sword technique is what they're most famous for, but daito, shoto and bo techniques are also in the curriculum.

Its clear, if you know anything about Japanese sword arts, that this man is a fraud.
five2niner 4 years ago
I hope everybody knows that the guy acting as the "referee" is a fraud and as such, what these two are doing is also a sham.

Sword fight... indeed... an european fight you mean
Gatoelho 4 years ago

If you could please tell me where you practice and I will gladly come show you kendo.
paladin586 4 years ago
This has got to be the worst thing I have ever seen. I have practiced Kendo for seven years. Monkeys can swing shinai too, that doesnt make them good practitioners. Also, What is with the "sensi" (I guess sensei???) banging his shinai on the other ones before the match? Please remove these videos as it makes the rest of us who wear bogu look bad. As for the students in the video, for your own sake, find a real teacher, he needs to be either banned from teaching or at least reported to the AUSKF.

trumpetman01. If you are a budo man, you are a poor reflection of your lineage. You should be ashamed of your course comment.
Rei = etiquette, courtesy, civility
Jin = humanity, charity, benevolence
I get what you guys say about technical aspects, but you all must be sleeping during your education re:character. They may be poor technician's (I don't know). But you fellows have poor character...and they can train.

kendo in a raquetball court.. what shame... sigh
joebobschmoe 4 years ago
Yeah, most takai are in basketball courts. So a raquetball court is really odd. Or, maybe it serves their purpose and they don't seek out anything else.
Snob.
CdEfGh1a 4 years ago
woah woah woah, dude, calm down, i was just saying its a general shame that kendo is practiced on raquetball courts or bastketball courts. not like a dishonor shame, but like a pity, style shame. it ought to be done in proper halls. i guess i forgot to put the "a" after what and before shame.
joebobschmoe 4 years ago
Agreed. It would be great if Kendo caught on as well as say, cheerleading, and function-specific dojo would start popping up. Snob-comment retracted. Happy training.

scotswakendo 4 years ago
In Niten they are surely the best ones as this is the Institute's kenshis (sorry, samurais... :þ) levels.
Their main instructor is Miyamoto Musashi, beleave!!!
alksuy 4 years ago
I'm not sure what they're doing, but it's difficult to guage skill level without gearing up in front of a guy. They're setting up with their shinais on the wrong side which leaves kote open for easy attack. They may be highly skilled fighters but my impression is that they are not properly instructed.

Zeithri 5 years ago
One of the problem of "this kind of fighting" is they need to be very "circular" to be attractive and spectacular. But these movements are too long, takes too much time (in spite of you could think watching this) and they allow tons of chances to be cut. They don't counter attack, just blocking, go back and launching hits. I would like to fence with one of this guys. Just to know their and my effectiveness. Maybe I am wrong and they are right, who knows, but a good kote-men could works
unhartim 5 years ago
They actually do have several "counter attacks" btw but anyway if you fought them fencing it's a no-brainer you would win (assuming you had arms and could hold a sword) in fencing the sword is so weak you can fling it all you want .

Because we have all witnessed small arms combat, whether on the news, movies or in real life, so we know that works based on observation. The effectiveness of sword dueling against semi-automatic pistols, rifles and rocket propelled grenades remains to be seen.
