What I am experimentin with is the following: I do my lifting (3 sets of 12) but.... between the 12 rep and the next 12 rep I do plyometrics with whole body involvement the. I tell you that I cannot do anything the next day. It is a killer. The problem is that the muscle repairing has to be attended very careful. Very rich diet and supplements to helpin the repairing. Am I doing wrong? I am not an expert. I just changed on how I workout to shock the body from plateaus.
Does it make sense to boost my growth hormone with this workout and then do a short hypertrophy workout? What are the benefits of a boost in groth hormon and how long holds this?
Not necessarily your typical metabolic workout. He's using the Concept of REST PAUSE training in a circuit fashion. I would also add more variety when taking this aproach. Sure, anything done in giant set form is going to increase caloric burn, but by supersetting squats with power cleans sacrifices form and increases the risk of injury. Justin Gonzales BS. NSCA-CPT
I disagree using extreme heavy weight in a circuit training mode, possibly lightheadedness, stumbling,off-balance,falling weights, it seems too dangerous! You can do five exercises 3-4 circuits using lighter weight without sacrificing strength. I guess you need to ask what is his goal? fat burning? if so, then lighter weights and 10-12 reps
@gooruraw obviously his goal isn't fat burning. 10-12 reps is still within the average hypertrophic range... if you're going for vascularity and endurance, you'll go below 60%1rm and shoot more for 15-20 reps.
he's going for 5 rep max sets and trying to repeat. this workout is all about extending your 1rm over a cardio domain.
this guy seriously needs to work on his endurance. this is what my football coach was talking about how many heavy weight lifters are huffin and puffin after one set while football players just keep moving cause we have to have strong endurance even linemen can run 2 miles in 14 minutes.
@JustnCas3 everyone worth their salt trains for specificity. he's not training to be a football player, or he'd be doing sprints, ballistic squats, etc. and many nfl lineman don't finish that 2mile run... the combine is not a very effective measure of football fitness, because if a lineman is running for 14 minutes without stopping, than there is something seriously wrong. it's all about short bursts, power, etc..
can't say i'm a fan of metabolic workouts in sets. i enjoy doing a variety of workouts with a high rep count. thats just me. this would still kick my ass though lol.
Bloody Hell! I did this today, and it's the hardest thing I've ever done in the Gym. For any one thinking about trying it, you'll have to go with trail and error with weights used, I had to do quite a few rest/pause breaks on the squat. I used near to 90% 1RM, I'd recommend 80% tops.. Trust me, by the 2nd round I was struggling and 3rd dying.

ahh i see thanx, ive been looking into this recently and treing to find a good workout to fit my needs, you difinitly know your stuff, told me what i need to know, guess ill just stick to sprints after my workouts for increased hgh levels, im not too worried about cutting right now
gh training and strength training contradict each other in a few areas... do u always train with no rest inbetween workouts or do you have 1 workout for increassing gh and another to maximise strength training needs.. ie more rest inbetween rest so that you can lift more intense when u lift

You can burn fat using heavy weight in a circuit. Don't kid yourself. Lifting heavy burns more calories, especially in a circuit.

The half clean and press must be tough on the joints. Doing that one wrong move and you are injured. I know, I use to do heavy workouts.
