@smiterpally yes that is correct, the song was based upon a love letter Axl wrote for his then girlfriend Erin Everly who later became his wife in 1990, however they parted just a year due to rumored spousal abuse. November Rain was also written about her, but the song was itself written in 1987 during the rehearsals for Appetite, The song did very nearly make it onto the album, but Geffen insisted they hold the song back as they felt it would be of a more better use on a later album.
