  • the vids ok but that dbeam is wank cant it sound any different than weeeee

  • Where did you get the samples from? records or a midi keyboard?

And how did you get this brilliant?

  • someone should tell "Tweeky" about the Hold button

  • @denverm4x that's exactly what i was thinking!!

  • its how you use it... you can do highly experimental shiz too

  • my favoretie thing about this sampler is plugging it nto the usb port on my laptop and using it as an external mixer to bypass my shitty soundcard

  • Holy fuck I want it.

  • that was actually pretty fucking sweet!!

  • Damn! This video is the shit! That was awesome!

  • i said it before n i´ll say it again, TVÄTTA DIG MED SÅPA :)

Love Antz in the pantz Subtopia crew

  • i GOTTA QUICK QUESTIONI

I WENT TO GUITAR CENTER A YEAR AGO AND THEY TOLD ME THIS AINT GOOD FOR HIP-HOP BEATS IS THAT TRUE???

  • lol, no, it is very good for hip-hop beats!!

  • To a point, the effects are a little techno/electronica oriented. But then again its a sampler so really the gengre of music is all about what sounds you load into it. I think you can do hip hop just fine, just another alternative to the MPC in my opinon

  • Wow funky shit man...didnt u do a promo vid with the SH201 also?

  • Daaaave!!!!! Komigen nu förfaaaaaaaaaan! :D

  • question from a guy with no experience of stuff like this: is it possible to create this sound entirely from the sp-555 and similar samplers?

  • Well... All the sound in this vid is coming from the SP-555, BUT they are created externally. Since it is a sampler, the sounds and loops played have to be recorded first.

  • gotcha, cheers :)

  • Tja mannen! Funtar på å skaffa en sån här - tror du det e ett bra val för mig? Kram L

  • jhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez

  • Perfect.

  • Is there any way of listening to one of the pads while sampling something from the 'line in'? not using the loop capture though.

  • Not that I know of! :-P Sorry...

  • @calebno2 not while your in sampling mode. try a prerecorded sound from that sampler to record in your studio put in playback mode on some studio moniters and jam with your studio to record something in the sampler it can work

  • Brilliant mix. ;)

I must have one of those. How much did it cost?

  • It's usually about 500-600 EURO.

  • i fuckin love this so much i ripped the sound and burned into a CD which then i listen in my car at night when i drive thru the streets of a big city with full booster and windows down. HA

  • ...Or "tweekyproductions" in the adress.

  • freakin sick!!!!

  • so, does it actually have a 16 track sequencer in it?

  • It has a sequencer, although it's not 16 trax, since it is not multitimbral.

  • Cool-i bought one,now where can i find the compact flash card type 1 that will work for it?i know its important to have the right one,if u have a link to one please share, thanks again!

  • Did you get it yet? It should be fairly easy to find. Computer stores, photo stores etc...

  • this is tight!Question will my DJX2 box and DJX keyboard go good with the sp555?

  • Thanx! Well, if you mean if it synchronizes via MIDI, the answer is yes.

  • david, you rock bro!

    keep it coming!

  • can the sp555 sequencer put notes to MIDI out?

  • Yes.

  • Nice Bit Of Kit!!!!Good Demo. Did it take ya long to use it...

  • Thanx alot! No... It's really easy to learn. :-D

  • I have a specific question... can you use the «Reverb Effect» as a REALTIME Effect...(so you can play the effect LIVE without having to play it from a pad that has been pre-recorded)?????? Thanks!

  • Yes, it can easily be used as a separate effect unit or to apply effects on the samples live. And as I've said previously, you can also switch to your favourite stored effects with the pads using "effect memory". Furthermore, you can also decide what specific samples you want the effect applied to (or simply apply it to all).

  • is it possible to use the SP-555 as a multi effect controller for live performance such as the efx-1000 is from pioneer...or you need to make a sample first?

  • Definately! Just plug it between your mixer/CD/whatever and amp and rock it! Even that weird "looper" effect I'm using in the video can be applied to any live signal. :-D Also, you can use the pads to store/recall different effect settings instead of playing samples if you want to! :-D

  • amazing song......

    MISTER X5.

  • Ok thanks a lot for the infos....i'll run to my favorite dj store to get the «555» A.S.A.P.!! :p

  • hey dude is there a way to adjust the volume of each individual sample as it plays live? so you can do on the fly mixing (levels wise), or does it all have to be mixed before it's loaded onto the sampler?

  • Of course you can adjust it (by the push of just one button)! :-)

  • Putain, ça avance grave !

  • Outstanding!

Must say I fall in love with SP-555.

I already have some hardware: Roland D2, Korg Electribe EA-1, MAM MB33, Roland JX-8P...

...but I don't have sampler (yet).

How would 555 implement in my kit via MIDI?

All I need is: to be in sync with my other gear/sequencer , I need it for live act with all my other gear. Is this thing for me?

Thanksm 4 any thoughts about this

  • hi my name is dean i just got the s.p 555 im not sure how to record can you help me please i can be reached at (717)9393848 thanks.

  • Did you get it yet? It's really easy... Especially if you have a manual. :-P

  • Thanx alot! :-)

Well... Of course, it would implement very well! And it's really easy to synchronize and all that. Also, perfect for live acts - because of all the (tempo-synced) crazy effects inside!

  • Man...are u learn studing the manual or takin some classes...if not i want to tried this, like the style so much....thanks man

  • Learn what? The machine or playing? All you need is some sense of rhythm! Well... That, and knowing what buttons to push. Hehe...

  • amazing stuff man

im well gettin one of these!!!

  • Good! I don't think you'll regret it. ;-)

  • David, you're amazing "Guy"!!!!

  • Thanx alot! :-)

  • that hand thing looks like it could be extremely useful

  • exelent

  • Nice work!! Can you do "sample chopping" with this machine??

  • OH LAWD

    i came...

  • Nice!!!!

  • Fuckin good dude

  • can i ask where the male vocal sample "why is this so hard" comes from?

    excellent track btw.

  • The sample comes from my vocal chords! ;-)

    Thanx alot! :-D

  • hi,

Ive got one to (sp 555) its nice with all the effects and stuff to remix songs and cetera BUT I planned for making my own songs with it but thats kinde not possible? have I bought the whright machine? whats the main thing for the sp 555? and the sample stuff I don't get that asswel can someone help or explaine me some stuff that would be great thx

  • is the sp555 the only hardware or instrument you are using?

  • Defo you might need to sample something with it. What genre you plan to produce music in?

  • great performance woah

can the sp404 do that thing you do (starting) at 1:17 when you have the pad/strings thing come in - i love stuff like that

  • No, the 404 can't do that, it's the DJ Effect Looper effect on the SP-555 he's using there if I'm not mistaken.

  • Can you specify what kind of "stuff like that" you mean? If you mean the music itself, then of course. They are just samples... ;-)

  • hey dude is there a way to adjust the volume of each individual sample as it plays live? so you can do on the fly mixing (levels wise), or does it all have to be mixed before it's loaded onto the sampler?

  • that sounds so, INFECTED !!!

  • The FX are very cool! The sample pads and playback options are great as well. However, if you are thinking of recording, cutting, and resampling samples right on the unit, it's not so easy. You gotta import perfect loops from your PC, or you will experience a lot of timing issues. The live loop capture is a joke. If you want to rec/playback live, without stopping the music, look at the Korg KP3. I had this unit for a while..

  • yes m8 u can sync it up via midi

  • Hey,

does anyone know, how long the samples can be on the sp 404 or the sp 555? Is it possible to play a sample that's about 2 or 3 minutes?

    btw. nice performance!

  • Yes, it's up to the length of your sample, and depends on your CompactFlash card.

  • thx for the response. i'm just about to get me one tomorrow :D. do you know if it is possible to sync it via Midi?

  • i own 1 of these and it takes ages to get aloop just right, the loop capture doesnt loop right it cuts the begining of the sample off. toooo much hassle.altho i love the effex onboard. get a demo from a shop before u buy 1 is what i suggest

  • doooooooo i have to switch up the style??? haha sike naw. nice video. -shujincell

  • amazing dude :) im new in the 303, this looks a crazy machine dude.

  • This is A mazing !!!!

  • simply GREAT !!!!!

  • How do you get different sounds on the 555?

  • It's a sampler, so you can either record them directly into it from vinyl or CD, or you can transfer them onto it with a Compact Flash card or by USB.

  • Absolutely amazing! I'm buying one as soon as I can. Thanks for the great vid.

  • "Drop it!" That stuff rocks, man. Keep the groove alive with the 555. I'll probably keep my 404, though.

  • I want to buy a 404 because of the portability... But the 555 seems cooler :D

    Anyone knows their differences?

  • I think 404 has 12 buttons? 555 has 16. And More Effects I think.

  • Yep... that's what I found out... But here in Brazil, the price isn't fair... I'll probably buy the 404... The 555 is twice it's price...

It has 16 buttons, but 12 voice poliphony, no batteries, and the Loop Capture doesn't seem to work so well... :( (check the Roland forums)

  • Outstanding work, a great showcase of your talent and the machine's capabilities.

  • the tweak and the pad master

man, great work man, great demo

  • Wow!Can't belive.Good work mate.

  • You're a real theremin player ! ! !

  • Stunning mate.Simple as.Hope to see more vids from you.

  • David you rock!

  • incredible!

  • Thanx! You can find more on Roland's homepage!

  • belgium loves you man!;-)

    and the sp-555:d

  • Ha! Thanx!

  • no problem:)

now I was wondering, can I download this track somewhere?(legally!!)

and now that we got talking I would also like to know which headphone you prefer for your dj sets?

    grtz,

    Séba

  • Yo! Well... Not now, because it's not a complete track - just a bunch of live-mixed loops. But maybe I can make it one. :-)

Hmm... Well, I'm not a DJ - I'm more of a producer, so I use the classic AKG studio phones. :-P

  • Iwould make it one if I were you:d

    realy like it's sound.

    So no live performance?

    Too bad!

think you would do a great job.

thanks for the info and vid.

    Grtz,

    Séba

  • Thanx, man! Well... I might just do that. And actually, I do make alot of liveperformances under the name V-Topia. But in that case, it's me and a crazy belgian drummer called Michael Schack! YES - Belgium. :-D

  • Woehoew Belgium!:d

Must be a real good drummer;)

you have shows in belgium sometimes?

if not, you should try to get a show in petrol club in Antwerpen.

    Great place.

    many drum n bass lovers!

  • Actually, he's pretty good. His name is Michael Schack, and we already played at the last Belgium Drum Festival! You can check us out on MySpace. :-)

  • Really good stuff, are you using any external effects such as reverb or anything?

  • Thanx. It depends on how you look at it. I already have some effecs on the samples in the demo, but the SP is not connected to anything external.

  • what effect are you using with your hand, some sort of sensor effect that compresses the note when close and vice versa? Is that effect built into the sp, or is that something else that the vid doesn't show

  • Yes, it's an IR-sensor called "D-Beam" that's built into the SP, as well as in many other Roland products (especially grooveboxes and keyboards). It senses movement above the lens, and allows you to control many different things. You can control a synth melody, filter, trigger samples and so on.

  • I just got a sp-555 ...how do yuo get different effects ontp it besides the basic 16 ??

  • Actually, I don't. In this track I ONLY use the DJFX Looper. Any other FX you might hear are in the actual samples. :-P

  • yeah i saw. but this is already very useful to get the basis of the machine through the video. The effets are well mentioned in a video on the Roland SP555 website !

thanks for all this, btw !

    Chriam

  • Cool. You're welcome! :-D

  • waouh, pretty cool ! thanx to give us this opportunity to get a good idea of the machine !

    Chriam

  • You're welcome!

  • dam that shit was sick!!!! this nigga gets down on tha sp.

  • Thanx! ;-)

  • Whats the D Beam Controller exactly? Is that why you move your hand like that???

  • Correct! The D-Beam is an IR sensor that senses movements above the lens. You can set it to be used for synthesizer, effect parameters, filter and so on.

  • 5 staaaaaaarrrrsssss!!!!! i buy one soon too!! kisses from argentina.

    vivi.

  • Aaah! Thank you VERY much! :-D

    Lotsa love from Sweden!
