I too was at this show, and was born and raised in Fresno. Now i want somebody to find the footage from when Ozzy played here with Randy Rhodes. I was at that show too!
Live footage of live pre-"Pyromania" Leppard is extremely scarce and I've been hitting up YouTube at least once a year to see if anything new from that era has popped up. Today, not only did I come across a killer find... but I'm from Fresno.
AWESOME! I saw them in Los Angeles on that tour, I saw the ORIGINAL Def Leppard, like here with Pete Willis...ah, I remember sitting with my cousins listening to All Through The Night on a little cassette player when no one knew them ;) and Rick Allen..well..yeah
Incredible footage...thanks for sharing...Def Leppard certainly still rocks....Steve is truly missed but they still put on a great performance and Joe's singing better than ever! It would be hard to go back and relive this period when you lose your bestfriend...I can certainly understand Joe's thoughts on this even though this is some of my favorite music from them.
Absolutely classic....fantastic find....Steve really tearing it up.....Leppard was over the day he died....for them, it truly was the day the music died........what is worse, is they show very little respect to the true musician that put them on the music map.....
@Rbutterworth2 I can't agree there. Why don't you think they show little respect? They always speak of him with great respect. To think it was just him that put them on the map couldn't be farther from the truth. It's always been about all five of them. I'll never forget hearing the dj break in from the song they were playing to announce his death. It was one of the worst moments of my life.
@Rbutterworth2 wrong on many levels. As great as Steve was he never wrote many actual full songs. He wrote riffs. The main song writers in def leppard were and always have been Joe, Sav and Phil and Vivian since 92. The songs became great when songs were written. As for not showing Steve respect what are you basing that on? Remember Steves death was painful for them as well and talking about it over and over again cannot be an enjoyable experience.
@Archive625 Actually Joe has admitted that Steve had a hand in writting lyrics, but he was way better at riffs. And, he's the reason why you have this "rare" footage. They'd still be in that old spoon factory if he hadn't threatened to walk away from the band.
@Archive625 Then it's too bad Phil Collen and Vivian can't write a decent riff then. Leppard started to suck once Clark's descent into alcoholism killed his riff making. Well, that and Hysteria.
@Rbutterworth2 Yes he was great - but he wasn't the band and to say it was over for them the day he died is both an insult to him as well as the band. They have written and performed many great songs since. I saw them on the tour following his untimely passing and many times since - they have nothing but total respect for him - just listen to 'White Lightning'. They have never forgotten him and never will - but mate, time waits for no-one, legend or not.............
This is fantastic, too bad Joe Elliott hates this period of Leppard so much. They really rocked - You can hear very clearly that the guitar players were the ones who led the band like Led Zeppelin or AC/DC. Joe looked like a rockstar unlike the fat guy we have now and Steve Clark was the leader of the band - his guitar sounded amazing in this and Wasted was such a special song.
PETE WILLIS - love his playing!

Early Def Leppard was awsome, and in my opinion way ahead of it's time writing wise, and not to mention they were all more or less teenagers.
