I think we have to remember that Tom Jones is an entertainer. If this is thrown away, it is done so in a style that the audience will find perfectly acceptable. I don't doubt that Tom could have done a better job. I still have the feeling he has one great album left in him if he actually applies his voice to material worthy of it. But you have to admit Tom has always been a good turn.

Absolutely dire. Humperdink was marginally better,but he can't hit top notes. Elvis' version was better than the aforementioned,but Al Martino is the one to listen to,or Placido Domingo.
Terrible vegas-esque arrangement of the song. Mr Jones could have done a much better version with a slower, more traditional arrangement. Waste of a great voice on this arrangement.
According to Engelbert Bert Kaemfert gave it to him and he was the first to record it but he never released it as a single. This song is far better served by Engelbert Humperdinck as he was the master balladeer with the range and ability to do iy full justice! Tom is too gravely to do this!
