  • jimi hendrix is technically superior though he has too much improvisation.

  • moneyball brought me here

  • satch's version is much better than zakke wyldes version

  • i like how everyone is talking shit about him because he stuck to the original song and says he sucks cuz he didn't do anything besides the original tune...sometimes a song is brilliant just the way it was written.

  • ok, but Slash's version is the best

  • @TheSynysterSlash - - lmao ok...

  • ok, but Slash's version is the best

  • Wow people...

Joe is a self confessed Hendrix fan-boy, being very much inspired by him.

To say that it was sloppy or badly executed, is completely wrong as he was paying homage to Hendrix's style of playing, which may be sloppy but necessarily in a bad way.

  • This is fucking shitty

  • @moosepoop69 I agree with you, but "Satch" is the best guitarist on the planet on so many levels. This just happened to be a "bad day."

  • guys i hate to break it to you but all of you that are talking shit on this...its joe satriani he doesnt give 2 fucks what you think of this performance because none of you are ever going to have the chance to do this.

  • Comment removed

  • everybody who says this is a good performance by satriani obviously doesnt play guitar himself.

  • @katodmx007 Well its hard to do well with the National anthem, you cant make stuff to go in the middle of it. You just have to play it the way its written, Its like Geddy Lee singing O Canada. Its not really a spectacular performance but its Geddy Lee singing O Canada. Its epic.

  • @Broons2112Bane im not talking about the melody or the notes. he actually botched the "playing" part. it sounds like a beginner is playing.

  • It is strange to listen to such crap from such a talented dude as Satch is!

  • even brain may attempt at the uk one is better than his

  • @dirtyxmexican i agee lol

  • he didnt add stuff to it like he normally would cause he didnt want to rip the balls off of all america

  • Sorry Joe, your shit sucks.

  • As country as anthem

  • 84 people got their asses kicked by America

  • wtf man? jimi was the original and best dudes and dudettes!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ugly...... Very ugly.... Zakk sounds better!!!!

  • @catani90 mmm not really

  • I'm sorry but here satriani failed!!!

  • 81 people who clicked dislike just crossed our border from Mexico

  • like... really shitty.

  • He said in a later interview that this was one of his shame moments ^^ Lack of synchronisation with the rest of the team lol !!

  • why does everyone think nobody clapped at the end??? it's obvious there's no sound other than his gutair,. look at the end when he says "that was cool" right to the camera,. U CANT HEAR HIM,. thats why they put the caption on there., trust me., i'm sure people applauded him on this performance....

  • no applause hahaha

  • why all the fucking pro guitarrists sound like shit while playin the national anthem??

  • @gbrl24242 hahaha :D just hear the Zakk Wylde Version :P

  • @SpeedeyFreaks

well zakk wyldes version was not that bad...but nothing compared to his true potential...

  • @SpeedeyFreaks oh god...disaster lol

  • @gbrl24242 because their country is shit.

  • thats a sexy ibanez he has omg

  • i find it hilarious how NOBODY cheers

  • hmm my opinion: he seems like he's on a rush to get somewhere else and therefore this performance has little or no feeling.

  • and no body claps!

  • why did no one cheer? joe is AWESOME!

  • this is the best version,. he doesn't ruin it by adding his own crap in there., and it still sounds amazing

  • At least he kept it short and to the point, without a lot of wanking. But the whole star-spangled banner / rock guitar thing is SO overdone and tired. It should have ended with Hendrix at Woodstock. And this is coming from a humongus Satch fan.

  • Awesome!

  • Guitarman, im gonna have to agree with u on that.

  • i expected better out of this performance.

and no, im not dissing Joe, he's an AMAZING guitarist and god knows i cant measure up to him, i just thought he would have gone a little more crazy with the Anthem based on the sounds of his other songs

  • @guitarman6486 he was just playing the anthem. He didn't need to play it as creatively as his other songs. He just had to play the anthem and keep it simple.

  • "that was cool" NOOOOT that was shit u mean..

  • Сатриани это ФЕНОМЕН!!!

  • Shut the fuck up about how you could have done it better. Satch has nothing to prove, he's an amazing guitarist and not showing off during the national anthem wont change that. If you want flashy effects and useless noise, go listen to Zakk Wylde, I hear he needs the fans.

  • @soadsoadsoad101 FUCK YOU DUDE! zakk wylde is a motherfucking god. him and satch are both goly guitarists so shut the fucking hell up and how dare you diss zakk wylde

  • Who cares about the guitar or pickups. The National Anthem should bring chill bumps no matter how good or bad it sounds. All you want to do is complain about the sound his guitar makes. When is the last time you played to an audience other than maybe your dog? By the way, Satriani is one of the best.

  • there was no applause...

  • absolutely no feeling compared with zakk wylde. i mean fuck zakk wylde played like a good american with true love for his country.satriani...nothing special..same old bullcrap..also ibanez suck..active pickups ruin everything

  • @stephenc90

sir for your information Zakk Wylde uses active pickups and satch does not

  • @stephenc90 Yes Zakk did play like an american *or like an ignorant show off* Zakk uses active pickups, but then again I wouldnt expect an ignorant redneck fuck like yourself to understand that. When you dont even know what active pickups are.

  • @stephenc90

Here we have another asshole who don't know anything about guitar playing.

  • @stephenc90 whatta dumbass you dont know anything obviously

  • @stephenc90 Before you post bullshit, actually know what you are TALKING ABOUT

  • @stephenc90 I can agree with you that there was something lacking in the performance. Very vanilla. But there is a difference between playing fast and playing with emotion. In wylde's version he just shreds. I didn't feel any emotion from his playing. Choosing between which one is better is like picking your poison.

  • joe satriani is a ridick XD

  • sounds like 15 yrs old kid still in learning process

  • @papapumpy If you only knew the things that man can do on a guitar!

  • @papapumpy It was an homage to the famous Hendrix version.

You should listen to him play Beethoven's 5th.

  • @papapumpy lets see a video of you. you a expert?

  • @papapumpy meaybe a japanese kid....

  • @papapumpy Live performances are always below par. Especially with this song.

  • @papapumpy Did you really just compare Satriana to a 15 year old kid?

    Idiot.

  • @papapumpy WOW, you must be pretty amazing. Let's hear you.

  • @papapumpy Actually, I thought this was really great compared to some of the people. You can hear the guitar "sing" the words. But others like Zakk Wylde, for instance...who went shred-head on like 20,000 people and made the National Anthem sound like crap...that was bad. And Satriani could have played this in a more technical way...he's one of the world's best. He did it simply so it would sound better and not just be a bunch of shred stuff. At least he has common sense, unlike the others.

  • @papapumpy i am 15, and i do better then this.. but its joe satriani, so hes better then me at anything when it comes to guitar

  • Much better than Mr. Zakk Wylde's national anthem.

  • the same way that Slash does

  • he starts with a positive " oh say can you see.." like someone would start walking.. with a smile on the face lol.. tra la la la la laaaaaaaa...

  • No extra shit, and he still managed to rock the fucking shit out of it! Joe is the MAN!

  • that´s the version you learn to play with 10 years...^^

  • I think he could've made it a little better

  • @debbieluvsibanez wait just a minute! It's the Star Spangled Banner, how can you make it any better?

  • @Jaypiracy I meant that he could've added some of his awesome riffs/ techniques. But he just used a wah pedal. I kinda expected more.

  • i wouldve just went to watch satch play in front of everybody.

  • is it possible that nobody clapped at the end? :P

  • @riquelme64

i think it was recordet with the amp and not with an microphone

  • satriani is like my favorite guitarist because he's playing the national anthem and he didn't add anything fancy like other people did which would ruin the song

  • 76 people weren't at the stadium

  • mustain owned ur ass

  • Satriani, who has received about every guitar award there is to hand out (he’s also a multiple Grammy Award nominee)

Joe Satriani, one off the greatest ever guitarist to ever and will ever live.

  • @MrJudas07 You say ever alot but you're so right.

  • @MrJudas07 mmmm. Mark Knopfler is by far my favorite guitarist - but Joe Satriani is hands down the best guitarist in the world. There is no guitarist that can compare. ALL Satch does is guitar solos. He is a guitar.

  • @eanielsen123 I wouldnt say he is the best in the world, although there is no doubt that he is damn good. I think Buckethead is a better guitarist than Joe.

  • @gucciassnigga i think u mad

  • @ DudePenny Satriani blows. Even crap ass Jimi Hendrix's down syndrome version of the national anthem is better than this.

  • @gucciassnigga wait woah woah woah...... Jimi Hendrix..... THE greatest guitarist EVER..... Crap Ass??????? you sir, have no taste

  • @gucciassnigga

    please die quick!

  • @gucciassnigga haha! epic coment tho and pissed a lot of pplz of but the thing is im kinda a guitar fan so idk what to say but u got gutz =D

  • @gucciassnigga fuck you go suck a dick joe satriani is the fucking best. SO FUCK OFF

  • @DudePenny

    please die quick!

  • It seems (in some weird way) like he was nervous..... I thought aliens didnt get nervous! Thats about as plain as Ive ever heard the ole Satch! I guess it wasnt a time for flare! Anyway, Satriani ....there can be only one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If you know anything about the guy, you know he is incredibly well-spoken, polite, and respectful. The SSB is easy to play. Hendrix made an anti-war solo at Woodstock. What Satriani did was perfect for what he was asked to do. It's incredibly classy for a guy that can do ANYTHING with the guitar, to just walk up and play a straight version of the song. It's a baseball game people!!! You people bitching about this should be ashamed of yourselves. You don't know satch.

  • this shit sucks zakks is way better

  • @rafomagus die never in your life say that again u r a retard and should be put down

  • @GalantyGuitarist kiss my ass dickhead, satriani's performance was lame and predictable, not that hes a bad guitarist he just didnt put any thought into this performance

  • Impossible to make a good guitar version of this shitty anthem.

  • @msods its a great anthem you piece of shit

  • my cover od zakk wylde's solo :D /watch?v=iPrEIOKI6tc

  • It's not Satriani's thing to be patriotic nor public.

He just plays the damn anthem and get's the hell out of there with a smile for the cameras :P

    I totally get him!

  • satch seems kinda nervous...

  • We can't tell if there was an audience reaction, they cut the sound.

  • zakk will kill joe satriani

  • US National Anthem on a Japanese guitar just doesn't seem right. I have nothing against Japanese guitars, I love ESP in fact, but it just doesn't seem right.

  • @AutodromoF1 and it was a british amplifier!!!!

  • @AutodromoF1 I believe ESP are manufactured in Korea ;)

  • @DuelistDx ESP LTD is Korea. The actual ESP guitars that have the ESP name on the headstock are made in Japan.

  • @DuelistDx I forgot to mention that if you buy an ESP in Asia, it's made in Japan. If you buy one in North America, it's made in the US. ;)

  • @AutodromoF1 Ibanez may be a Japanese electric guitar, but the invention of the electric guitar came from America. I may not like my nation, but at least I know some of its inventions.

  • zakk wylde version is better

  • Comment removed

  • WOW the audience goes crazy when a famous singer sings the national anthem...but a guitarist that takes 10x more skill gets none....thanks world... for NOT appreciating good music.

  • @8thH0k4ge no they didn't say anything because they were paralysed by his awesomeness

  • @TheSuperMerc I thought it was the crowd was just muted so the guitar could be heard...

  • He played it like he should, as his own interpretation. The original star spangled banner wasn't written with wah wah and vibrato was it? Its his own version, just because he didn't re-write the damn thing like many others have done (those are still good versions mind you) doesn't mean he didn't make it special.

  • absolutely NO applause! lol!!!

  • aaron fink's version sounds good to

  • where are the aplauses???

  • Seems like he was just testing out the amp haha hes the best

  • thats whats great about satch he adapts do the music, never shows off, just the perfect amount of notes

  • Deltron7 how can you say that, it was the most incredible performance ever, it was distorteed and you could hear the bombs and the fighter jets screaming all from his guitar. people said it was the most amazing thing theyeve ever seen, and he was the first one to play the national anthem like that, so without him satch wouldnt be up there

  • sobber !

    i like this !

  • Satch played it really well. Hendrix played it like shit.

  • @Deltron7 can you play like either one? no. shut the fuck up.

  • Hendrix's version was the best ever simply because of the symbolism behing it, when it took place and what was going on at the time. A half-brained dumb shit like you wouldn't understand.

  • zakk wylde kicked his ass

  • @kkolorosa sense when was this a competition?

  • @mycoolgecko Since*

  • @kkolorosa Zakk isn't worthy to sniff his turds.

  • @KrummyBear listen krummy bear if you have even any idea of who zakk wylde is and what he can do you wouldnt have anything to say. im not saying that joe satriani is bad in anyway; for me searching is one of the most creative innovative guitar songs ever written; however, zakk variated the tune and made it his own instead of conforming to the simple guidelines that people such as joe satriani and steve vai followed.

  • @kkolorosa I do have any idea, and he doesn't have half the technical facility that satriani has... it's really besides the point... Andy Timmons is better than all of them.

  • Jimi has done it, Jimi was better, Jimi is God but Joe Satriani is also God

    end of story

  • you have to understand he was rushed TIME RESTRAINTS this was not a concert setting,It was play this hurry up and thank you we have a game behind schedule Joe did a great job he is a wonderful melodic player, why compare or dislike this piece it is just what it is a song interpretation.

  • I'm Portuguese but after seeing Zakk Wylde and JIMI HENDRIX version of the USA anthem I thing that this is my favorite.

  • explain to me how some one could dislike this i understand that you have your opinoin and you can criticize it all you want but dont vote down on it or atleast dont vote at all because this whole song is devoted to honoring our country right? so voting down on it is like dishonoring our country. Right?

  • not digging the envelope filter/auto wah. comes off like the teacher on Peanuts voice. I do dig the straight ahead version- I hate it when guys try to do the hendrex bomb noises but don't know what they're doing and just end up adding a bunch of filler more suited for a mandolin or something (Zakk , et.al). Is there a Tube of frank Marino doing this somewhere- His version was a respectable update of the Hendrix idea...

  • For all u haters sayin this is short or missing something or watever, he's satch, he doesn't have to try to be awesome, he just is.

  • "honor your country", i've never understood that

  • wtf joe?? you set such a high standard and you deliver this?? disappointed indeed.

  • that guitar looks amazing

  • @dehnlem i agree..

  • Tame yet respectful...Just about right...G...

  • I liked it a lot but I prefer a slightly slower version of this.

  • stop fuckin complaining it says national anthem not national shred/ solo

  • Wow, i can actually hear it's the anthem! Had a hard time with Jimi's and Wylde's version (not that those didn't rock btw.), i just like to recognize it when i hear it.

  • I prefer the steve vai's and the ej's versions.

  • zakk wyled SUCK BALLS!

  • @methane wtf u obviously dont no who he is concidering hes one of the best modern guitarist

  • @methane

You have no idea what you're talking about

  • @INSPIREDbyINSANITY so you're awesome... haha

  • i can play that its easy

  • @crazysoccer7you

    ofcourse you can, everybody can

but can you also do it perfectly with a few thousants people in front of and behind you? :-P

  • Im glad he didn't throw in the extra shit joe satrianis version was the best

    GOD BLESS AMERICA

  • @rp94cobra sorry bro i meant to press like comment accidently pressede dislike

  • @totallyrandompeople2 lol thats cool man mistakes happen......but joe rocks

  • @rp94cobra yea totally have you checked out his band chickenfoot its amazing

  • (BEL) ~ Y2K changed? we? you? they? he? she? eye2eye

  • well a lot of people here are trashing jimi's version, because he "raped" it and added more than needed. but if you understand this, he played that version during a time of war, it represented the war as a whole the best way he could through strings and an amp.

i dont think satriani stayed true to this entirely cuz he showed no feeling in this version. he ran through it like he was trying to get off the field and into the restroom ASAP.

    Vai's version is great :)

  • ALL HAIL SATRIANI

  • Satriani THE MASTER!!!!!!

  • Amazing Oorah! Semper Fi, Joe.

  • i'm starting to realize how great sanbora is

  • Sambora sucks

  • @motherofallfuckups stfu! sambora rocks.
