I'm thinking that they shot it several times, and, having to sing it acapella and probably having quite a bit of down time between takes, the actress didn't keep the key consistent throughout the day's takes. Then, the editing team, not being musically inclined, used the beginning of one take and the end of another, not noticing the awful key change.

Any school that does spring awakening is going to catch shit for it (My university did it this past fall, and were told by many people that we should be ashamed of ourselves for putting it on a stage)  But the material is most relevant to a high school age group. Adrianna, at the moment, was a simple high school girl. She had tons of pressure from her; so she is completely emotionally and physically exhausted. Plus, she was literally on drugs then.

While Lea has a much better voice than this girl, she kept the song subdued and emotionally charged.
