Either way, its no secret that Alfred the Great was one of the most successful campaigners against the Vikings. Battles like Brunanburh and Stamford Bridge showed the Vikings weren't invincible in battle as they seemed. Nevertheless they did do very well for themselves considering they were essentially nomads. I did the Vikings in my first year at A-Level, very interesting topic. I didn't mean for any offense by the way :)

@chilimeatpants in options somewhere, gamplay settings i think, turn the option, 'unit scale' to large or its highest setting. that's how you get larger armies. it simply gives u more men per unit that is all.

How can I use 2400 or 3000 men like this? I dont know plzz help, when I do that, some units are outside from the red edge and when they are assigned as AI they do nothing, and I am not able to select them, thats why I am outnumbered sometimes and lose.

@jetixspeed You can go in to options and make the size of each units larger. So on medium, it's like 60 units in a group of spear men. Change the unit size to "large" and it'll make it like 90 units of spear men.

i would say that this is the best game in the total war series. I really hope napoleon has more meele combat regardless of range. I mean range is cool but its much more nicer to watch people die by the sword other than dying by a bullet =D

i didnt find it so, mebe in the beginning, but there r some glitches that if u know how to use them, u really can beat armies that are double your strength, makes the game a little more boring, but im just saying if u wanted to beat it real fast on the hardest settings, that is the easiest way to go. playing it trying to emulate real battles, yes, on the most difficult settings does take real skill

Well this tactic was not for midevil total war but for Empire Total war

I made my whole army consist of USA artillery VS the best infantry and calvary on the opposing side as the British.

They managed to take out some of my cannon but in the end i won :)

Rome and Empire were better IMO - the problem with Medieval was everything was balanced out, and I prefer asymmetric warfare.

Empire Total War will be the best Total War game when it gets fixed. It was released with massive amount of bugs and CTDs. The first major patch was just released which improved the game a LOT but it still needs some fixing. I would wait and get Medieval 2 instead for now.

LOL this is a Custom battle first: you made up their army and then you made your whit pritty much better troops then... you use arrows on easy level actureally did you know you can kill an whole army whit just 5 bow units... you kill ca. 75% then you attack the peasants

you know, the batttle would have lasted longer if you gave the enemy some chevrons, and some less upgrades for your men, also, judging by the tactics of the enemy, I can say this was a battle on easy lvl

No no, the peasants was due to enemy's army, they got closed to my fortress and I decided to attack. The campaign difficult is on Hard and they didn't have much archers, only 1 squadron, and I love archers because this. The archers hold the enemy...

wow, that must have been one hell of a campaign cause all of your units have full gold chevrons, armor and weapon upgrade, and they all look like they have full numbers, and it's also weird they didn't have any cavalry then as they normally do, and that they didn't send their archers forward, which any faction will do in battle from difficulty medium...

The Billmen are a bit weak, but they are nice to front attack. I like to use them on my frontline, and archers behind. Swordsmen are too expensive, so do horses, that's why I don't use much of them.

Bill militia has 1 defence and 3 charge, the next one (forgot name) has 5 defence, they are more like support and hit-and-run troops

But even ordinary Billmen (not militia) with their armor upgraded and some experience has huge problems with fighting against for instance Scottish Highlanders. When I play as English I usually use Armored Swordsmen.

you mean they lose a lot of guys, I have the same problems with norse axemen, they kill a lot of guys but also lose a lot in the battle, it's probably if the other units is effective against armour

It's probably to do with the fact that they have no shield and are more like hit and run troops. When I use Norse Axeman I usually engage my enemy with swordsmen or dismounted Huscarls and then finish them off with the charge of NA.
