Green Day were Punk Rock.

There's a difference between Punk & Punk Rock.. they're obviously not like 70's Punk but they take a lot of inspiration from Punk music.

They have catchy & fast 3-chord music, with a bit of Pop melody thrown in. Great lyrics & good bass lines... Green Day are awesome ;P
