Alexander was never blonde... He had tan skin and dark brown(almost back) hair. Looked like a Persian. In the movie they portray him like a nortern European.
A part of the historical legend was left out... Alexander, as a boy, was told by a prophet that he would tame a black horse and then become ruler of the world.. the prophet was right! Perhaps the premonition gave young Alexander the confidence it took to master the fiery steed...
Bucephalus was actually a gunmetal-grey which is a dark grey colour with a tint of blue. also one of the rarer colours that a horse can be. it some times can be mistaken for a black by those that are unfamiliar with the various horse colours.
example most people call greys whites though a white would have pink skin and are not very common.
most movies use Andalusian or Friesian horses when portraying Bucephalus.
Thought the actual horse is said to be either an Akhal-Teke breed or an Arabian. both which are older horse breeds I like to lean toward the Arabian as they are the oldest known horse breed.
@JaguarJedi22 yea but historians never really found out if bucephalus really existed- heck alexander might've never even had a horse to call his main!
Whether it is necessary to accuse of a cinema mistake of the known Hollywood director Oliver Stone removed sensational film ` Alexander` and used in a role of a horse Macedonian Bucefalus a horse Fresian of breed, deduced in Middle Ages in Holland when by historians for a long time it is proved, What legendary horse belonged to one of two most ancient breeds to akhal-teke?
Hey all! At last I am working on a book-trailer for "I AM THE GREAT HORSE", by Katherine Roberts.
It's a Bucephalus video, styled as if a movie based on the book were coming out! Message me if you have suggestions for the characters. The video is scheduled to be uploaded at the end of August/ beginning of September.
@JaguarJedi22 Yay xD I read the book years ago and I was meaning to reply t the comments about the book, but I couldn't sign up to youtube back then xD I love all your videos, this one being a great example.
This footage is from the movie "Alexander", directed by Oliver Stone. It's not *about* Bucephalus, but has scenes with him in it. The film came out several years ago, in 2006 maybe? I forget, but the director's cut is the best version.
@JaguarJedi22 who can't know alexander's film ?! :)))) i watched it when i was 14 yr old,and i did it 4 times more,that film is epic,as whole axeander's story ^^
@JaguarJedi22 Sir, great video, but would recommend Alexander Revisited, which contains every scene Stone shot and runs 3 1/2 hours. You would most enjoy the "Making of' Alexander" behind the scenes. Lots of footage of the noble Friesian and training for the final battle scene. Actually 3 horses so the leading horse had stand-ins. They were flown to Thialand from Spain and you will see the Spanish trainer getting the horse used to working with elephants, not an easy task!
@PrinceLordChris Well he was shot in the lung at the Siege of Multan... but the Greeks rushed into the city and killed every single person in there and burnt it to the ground... I'm pretty sure he didn't lose that battle hahaha.
@PrinceLordChris Alexander lost the war in India, but he didn't lose any battles there. His army would not go on past the Beas River. They had been fighting for 12 years and wanted to go home. I can't really blame the Macedonians for wanting to go back.
@PrinceLordChris The Indians didn't even beat Alexander. Alexander beat THEM. Indians don't have a fucking clue about history, so just don't listen to them.
@invict2007 Well, riding bareback is hard. Especially on a 17-18 hand high horse like the one in the movie. Most of these horses in the movie look like they are either Thoroughbreds, Fresians, or some other breed of horse that tends to be big and high spirited. Greek horses were usually only 12 to 14 hands high.
Not a pony: big, wild horse that teenage Alexander tamed and rode thru most of his campaigns. The horse was celebrated in story and song, and Alexander raised a statue to him.
I LOVE this video, I just can't explain how stunning and sooooo well done it is!!!! I love, love, love Friesians and you made justice to this character, Bucephalus!!! Congratulations on such magnificent video, and also for breathtaking song!!!!
I've been obsessed with black horses since I saw "The Black Stallion" and I was thrilled to see this portrayal of Bucephalus - they did an amazing job!
Weird but funny: My boyfriend's black kitty "Galileo" has this horses personality (wrongly intelligent & bold), and they have such an amazing bond - sometimes I call him "Baby Bucephalus" lol :)
And about the movie, I think it was a really great movie which came pretty close to depicting Alexander as he was =) I enjoyed watching it ! My favorite Battle was the Greeks vs Persians =) Amazing and intense Battle ! Gotta love the way the battle was enacted, sheer beauty.
Alexander was just a mere kid playing on the borders of India compared to the Mighty Kingdoms that existed in Inner India during his time. He was only able to defeat an Outer Vassal Kingdom (Taxilla, present day pakistan), which only bordered ancient India. India had mighty Empires like the Cholas, Cheras and Mauryas, each equivalent of many Persian Kingdoms put together with 100s of thousands of Cavalry and Armored War Elephant Troops, not to mention Battle Chariots and Chariot Archers.
@sesshy34 This "mere kid" you speak of, just happens to be the greatest general in history. Had he brought in a fresh army from his newly conquered lands, he could have conquered India. Chandragupta even said so.
@Alexandros1294 Chandragupta said Alexander could have taken India because the Nanda empire(the empire said to be waiting for Alex) was disliked by the people of India. The emperors at that time of India were tyrants. This was the empire that scared off Alex's soldiers..
@JacobTheIndoAmerican Alexander could have maybe taken India. The Idians greatly outnumbered Alexanders forces. Thought the concern wasnt really the Foot soldiers of the Indians. Alexanders near unstoppable Phalanx would have dealt with them. The concern was the Indians War Elephants, which was said to number in 3000- 6000. Thats alot of Elephants. Alexanders men were tired and wanted to go home and wanted no part of 6000 War Elephants so he was forced to take them home to Babylon.
Indiaexpress, Persian empire propably was more larger than India. That is why we think Persia was the most powerful in eastern world at that time. Also, India never won Persia in battle, how could India be most powerful than Persia?
hahaha! indians took whole afghanistan from greek didnt they?and u think that persia was the most powerful in eastern world at that time?hahaha! i laugh at your ignirance.
@abcowboy well, the no of laexander's troops is fabricated by greeks for ur information, even the historians admit that .they fabricated facts and projected greeks like inthe movie '300' .
@abcowboy and chandragupta maurya of india took all of afghanistan from the greeks and border parts of persia and was marching to greek when the greeks began sending trasures and women and begged to become ally of chandragupata ie indians.

man! if a war with a samll border kingdon was draw then what would have happned if alex had a war with the more powerful kingdom of magadha of india.hahha!
@Indiaexpress The Battle of Hydaspes wasn't a draw. Alexander won. If you look at the tactics of the battle, and the numbers of the dead, wounded, and captured at the end of the battle by all of the ancient historians, then you would know that Alexander clearly outclassed Porus in tactics and won the battle with plenty of soldiers to spare.
@bulgariaaaaaaaaaaa shut up idiot Macedonians are intelligent people was it not Alexandria the city the capital of intelligence or atleast one of the many? STFU with ur stupid greek propaganda
@Alexandros1294 Wrong the term hellenism never came until you got your country back from the turks, you and the other balkan countries split our country, and why the fuck does it even matter anymore? You are probably a greek with a mixture of turk blood albanian blood heck even slavic blood! This was a long time ago let it go, and no im not a idiot, im actually in the top of my class. Greeks called macedonians barbarians the term barbaroi means non-greek does that do enough for you?
@Macedon2bc Greece is not my country pal. I'm an American. If you're the top of your class, then I really would hate to see who you go to school with. Read Herodotus. The Macedonians were part Greek, Thracian, and Illyrian. The Argive refugees called the Temenidae migrated up there and mixed with the tribes there. The Macedonians were considered barbaric because of this, and because they spoke only a rough dialect of Greek.
@Macedon2bc King Archelaus Graecized the Macedonian Court, and ever since then the Macedonians spoke both the Macedonian Dialect of Greek, and the Attic dialect used by most Greeks in the time of Philip and Alexander. It was a Panhellenic Crusade that Alexander led against Persia. Hellenistic is a term we use to describe a kingdom like that of Macedonia. Ethnically Greek, but mixed with other nations also. Macedonians of today are not Ancient Macedonians.
@Macedon2bc They don't even share the same space of land the Ancient Macedonians did. They are in Paeonia. The monkeys that claim to be Macedonian today are Slavs. They use the Cyrillic alphabet and they worship fucking Czars. These are not Macedonians! They are ethnic Bulgarians who have no past.
@Macedon2bc Even the name Macedonia is Greek. It's derived from the word Makednos. Makednos means "Tall man" and Makedonia means "Land of Tall Men." Alexander is a latinized form of Alexandros which means "Protector of Man" and Philip is latinized for Philippos which means "Friend/Lover of Horses"
@Macedon2bc Clearly you haven't done any real studying of history. You only read the propaganda your government puts out for you to read. Have you ever read the ancient sources? Have you read what every modern day historian from everywhere else in the world has to say about Macedonia? Robin Lane Fox, Victor Davis Hanson, Peter Green, Donald Kagan, JFC Fuller, Nicholas Hammond, Eugene Borza, and several others who know more about Macedonia than anyone say that the Macedonians are Greeks.
@Macedon2bc By the time the Romans invaded Greece, Macedonia wasn't even considered barbarian anymore. Yes it was still a kingdom, but it was considered fully Greek. Macedonia isn't even the only Greek Kingdom out there. Epirus and Thessaly were both Greek Kingdoms. Thessaly was albeit, a loose kingdom though.
alexander was unbeatable even turks nomads of centrral asia who hate greeks they used the term iskenderbey - alexander lord as title in their army, even the enemies of his country give his name to their children
lol alexander is famous of being unstoppable and unbeatable... there is division's flag in greek army of special forces with a moto " he is unbeatable"
@sharathvasudev are you from Iran prolly? cuz i was there i saw people who think they still have their nation or whatever like Persians, and they hate Alexander so much.
Alexander the great Greek king never lost a battle. In Hydaspes river in India he beated king Poros and took him as a prisoner. Alexander asked him " How you want me to treat you? ", Poros answered " As a king ", Alexander asked " What do you mean by that? " Poros answered " The word is self - explanatory ". So, Alexander let him keep his kingdom and gave him, as a gift for his bravery answer, every Indian territory he had conquered.
Chronicler Arrian claimed that Voukefalas was unique in that he had two toes separately alongside a smaller hoof, just like skeletons of horses from millions of years past.
they suppose it was an akhal-teke, faster, bigger and more durable than the known horses at that time in Persia, but I adore friesian horses, so I like the movie already because of the horse....;-)
I wanted to do a video about "I Am The Great Horse", but it would be difficult to pull off without using a stand-in character from another movie to "play" Charmeia. Any thoughts? Because a book trailer would be totally awesome and now you've got me thinking.
I absolutely love this film, one of my top favourites! Bucephalus is the greatest, i cried when i thought he died, but then you see a black horse at the camp after the battle and it's all like, is that him? But then...He's the greatest!!!
his name was Voukefalas he was named after that casue he had a great huge head the name means big head
voukefalas died while alexander was in india ( im not sure if it was india ) but he died cause of the heat he was very old by that time , alexander was very devastated as the historians say his horse was his best friend and so to honor him he build a city and named it after him
I know a guy who bread a horse almost like what was described as Bucephalus. He worked with a couple breeders to cross a Fresian with a Percheron.
Essentially they ended up with a really big but agile Fresian. I think they called it a "King Fresian".

The battle of Hydaspes took place in the modern day Pakistan. King Porus was a Pakistani Punjabi king.
Alexander the great didn't even cross into modern-day India. All of Alexander's buisness was in the modern day Pakistan.

Alexandros1294 1 year ago
@Alexandros1294 Wrong the term hellenism never came until you got your country back from the turks, you and the other balkan countries split our country, and why the fuck does it even matter anymore? You are probably a greek with a mixture of turk blood albanian blood heck even slavic blood! This was a long time ago let it go, and no im not a idiot, im actually in the top of my class. Greeks called macedonians barbarians the term barbaroi means non-greek does that do enough for you?
Macedon2bc 1 year ago
@Macedon2bc Greece is not my country pal. I'm an American. If you're the top of your class, then I really would hate to see who you go to school with. Read Herodotus. The Macedonians were part Greek, Thracian, and Illyrian. The Argive refugees called the Temenidae migrated up there and mixed with the tribes there. The Macedonians were considered barbaric because of this, and because they spoke only a rough dialect of Greek.
Alexandros1294 1 year ago
@Macedon2bc King Archelaus Graecized the Macedonian Court, and ever since then the Macedonians spoke both the Macedonian Dialect of Greek, and the Attic dialect used by most Greeks in the time of Philip and Alexander. It was a Panhellenic Crusade that Alexander led against Persia. Hellenistic is a term we use to describe a kingdom like that of Macedonia. Ethnically Greek, but mixed with other nations also. Macedonians of today are not Ancient Macedonians.
Alexandros1294 1 year ago
@Macedon2bc They don't even share the same space of land the Ancient Macedonians did. They are in Paeonia. The monkeys that claim to be Macedonian today are Slavs. They use the Cyrillic alphabet and they worship fucking Czars. These are not Macedonians! They are ethnic Bulgarians who have no past.
Alexandros1294 1 year ago
@Macedon2bc Even the name Macedonia is Greek. It's derived from the word Makednos. Makednos means "Tall man" and Makedonia means "Land of Tall Men." Alexander is a latinized form of Alexandros which means "Protector of Man" and Philip is latinized for Philippos which means "Friend/Lover of Horses"
Alexandros1294 1 year ago
@Macedon2bc Clearly you haven't done any real studying of history. You only read the propaganda your government puts out for you to read. Have you ever read the ancient sources? Have you read what every modern day historian from everywhere else in the world has to say about Macedonia? Robin Lane Fox, Victor Davis Hanson, Peter Green, Donald Kagan, JFC Fuller, Nicholas Hammond, Eugene Borza, and several others who know more about Macedonia than anyone say that the Macedonians are Greeks.
Alexandros1294 1 year ago
@Macedon2bc By the time the Romans invaded Greece, Macedonia wasn't even considered barbarian anymore. Yes it was still a kingdom, but it was considered fully Greek. Macedonia isn't even the only Greek Kingdom out there. Epirus and Thessaly were both Greek Kingdoms. Thessaly was albeit, a loose kingdom though.

The Russian word "tsar" comes from the Latin "Caesar", and does the German "kaiser". All used to indicate a great leader.

porus was not the powerfull king from india
alex did not reach the great plains of india(gangetic plain)
on the gangetic plain was the powerfull dynasty of nandas who had 4000 war elephants, porus had just 400
entering india was his biggest blunder and porus was his bloodiest rival, he wd have never beaten nandas, before which he had to cross river ganga
he was stopped near river jhelum (now in eastern pak)
his aim was to reach the outer ocean(may be it was the bay of bengal)

IanHunedoara8 2 years ago
they suppose it was an akhal-teke, faster, bigger and more durable than the known horses at that time in Persia, but I adore friesian horses, so I like the movie already because of the horse....;-)
nahirimah 2 years ago 3
Or a Turkoman, which I think are now extinct, but pretty much the ancestors of the modern day Akhal Teke.

Hooray! Someone else who has read the book!!

But then...He's the greatest!!!

his name was Voukefalas he was named after that casue he had a great huge head the name means big head
voukefalas died while alexander was in india ( im not sure if it was india ) but he died cause of the heat he was very old by that time , alexander was very devastated as the historians say his horse was his best friend and so to honor him he build a city and named it after him
vdenise 2 years ago
Yes. Alexander lost the battle in India against King Porus. His horse got hurt badly during this battle and later died while Alexander was returning.
dev8082ruj 2 years ago
he died when he returned to babylonia
some say he died of disease, some say he was poisoned
sharathvasudev 2 years ago
@sharathvasudev
Disease came because of poison !
when a human is poisoned he or she becomes sick, like Alexander did.
syrymflash 2 years ago
When did you post this up?! I totally missed this! It's awesome!
I take it this is off that movie they made awhile back about Alexander the Great? I remember the stories about he and his horse.
The horse they used looked like a Friesian. Beatiful...
Good job Jag! And good luck and good fighting!
