Lao has a lot less letters than Thai & all the letters in the Lao alphabet are in the Thai one. So there's no new sounds to learn, just what the letters look like. Lao spelling isnearly the same as Thai too..

So it just a matter of learning what the Lao letters look like. About half look so similar you can recognise them immediately, the rest range from a little different to very.

Reading Lao if you if you read Thai is much easier than Speaking Lao if you speak Thai.

Apart from kon Issan Thais are so annoying.

I asked my girlfriend to translate, she simply said it's passa Lao I can't understand. When I pushed further & said she must understand some she insisted not a word.

I speak Thai pretty so so as a second langauge and can understand half the words they are singing.

Same with the writing I can read 80% of the words, it's pretty similar to Thai, understand half of them. But the girlfriend insists she can't read a single one, it's Lao not Thai.
