I read this warning at Yellowstone. It said: "When in bear country it is advisable to carry bear pepper spray and to wear lots of little jingly bells on your clothing. It is also important to recognize the difference between black bear scat and grizzly scat. Black bear scat will contain bits of fur from small mammals and lots of berry seeds. Grizzly shit will contain lots of little jingly bells and smell like pepper spray."
omg. that guy is a fuckin idiot. if that bear was lil older, that guy would fuckin dead. its obviously trying to challenge him. a full adult grizzly doesnt play around. if they dont like you, they wont hesitate to let you know.
@ack2012wannab, your explanation sounds more familiar than the " When the bear stands on his hind legs, I have heard that is a response to stress, but is not aggressive." Thanks
very lucky it was just a teenage ursus..and the way it behaved seems to be a female..male bears no matter what age are always naturally much more persistant and agressive.
Plain and simple, the guy got way too close and he should have known better. If a wild animal reacts to your presence (especially the way this bear did), you are way too close. Even if the guy knew how to handle himself in case of a bear attack, he was still stupid to approach a bear like that. Don't be a dick, just buy a telephoto lens and observe wildlife from a safe distance like the rest of us. It saves human lives and bear lives. Thank you.
I hope this guy didn't walk up to this bear for a photo shoot purposely. So many idiots in that park. Park rules are 100 yards from bears and wolves and 25 yards from other animals for a reason. They're not your pets. Although sometimes the bears decide they want to come closer and there isn't much to be done about that. By the way it is definitely a grizzly. You can clearly see the hump and the bridge of nose is concave as well. He did right by not running, but sitting at 0:43 was a bad move.
@bleedheavymetal I totally agree with your comment. For the record, I don't believe the guy intentionally approached the Grizzly. (although he did behave like an idiot) It approached him, albeit, mostly because the guy was blocking the path the bear wanted to take. If he had retreated earlier, the bear would most likely have ignored him and continued straight up the hill. Notice at the end of the video, the bear continues up the hill at the exact same place it crossed the walking path.
Youtube / internet is full of this degenerated stupid pieces of garbage, who are not able to piss a hole in the snow. And the animals have to pay the price. No wonder the world is like it is.
Wow. Im not sure I coulve held my composure that well. We were in Yellwostone in early July 2009 at that same spot (sure looks like Mud Volcano area) so that just blows my mind. The closest we got to a Grizzly was 200-300 yds and that was plenty close. Lol
he was to clsoe to begin with, then he backed away which is advissed for non-aggressive bears, so yea no he wasn't in danegr if he knew what he was doing.
your lucky to be alive, people that get that close to a bear are inviting a attack. Looks like the bear heard the other person who was recording this, which saved your dumb bum.
I'm from Jackson Hole, WY and grew up in Yellowstone basically...that guy is lucky to be alive.

Luckiest moron I've seen for a long time...

Was this a subadult grizzly or a sow without cubs? From looking at the video, the bear appears somewhat small for a full grown boar.

Not a good idea.

This guy should get a life time band from the park! He is so luck he's not lunch. The word "brainless" comes to mind.
