  • never heard this before love his dark side so haunting

  • So great

  • Interesting tune. Bruce often talks about getting his first guitar at Western Auto, but I can't remember him explaining how he learned to play the piano. Anyone have insight on this?

  • Wow.. Just wow. I don't have any words. I love the lyrics, I love the piano, I love his voice... He's simply the god.

  • Does an MP3 of this exist somewhere? I'm starting work on a ultimate Bruce Springsteen mix CD to keep in the car and I so would like to have this one on it. Any one have an MP3?

  • @CrazyJustin2006 freecorder

  • Great stuff..

    Another Lyric correction..lol

"You lay watchin' them off, eat a hole in his cloth"

    Should read

"He lay watching a moth, eat a hole in his cloth"

" Around the waist " should read " Around her waist "

  • does anyone else remind the piano line starting at 2:20 (and coming back again late rin the song) on the piano line of michael jackson's earth song? it sounds a bit similar i think

  • The great songwriters have the amazing ability to create beautiful lyrics that can fit any mood the listener might have, and the sound also plays a huge part in the mood of a song. Not many people can write and compose the sound of those songs to describe all the emotions and feelings of the working class. Bruce Springsteen is one of those elite few who can do that. When we look back years from now, he'll be ranked by many as one of the top 5 greatest musicians of all time.

  • something about this is so incredibly dark that it hurts (in a good way..)

  • my only regret is that i did get into the boss earlier than i did]i missed a lot of good#

    love u boss live forever

  • Indescribably AMAZING...

    Thank you For Uploading...

  • He would have been around 22 years old when he wrote this hidden gem. Tell me another songwriter in living memory who could have come up with something as deep, penetrating and powerful as this at such a young age ? I am a big Dylan fan as well, but for me Springsteen just stands alone on a different planet from anyone else.

The man is unique and his unequalled status in popular music will unfortunately not be recognised until he is no longer with us.

  • @johnnyM809 while his talent is undeniable, i do have to say that it isn't too surprising that he composes so greatly at the ripe age of 22 yrs old, as that is about when the typical human peaks (or at least around it)

  • @johnnyM809 couldnt agree more

  • Hi Ev2clip-

I think the lyric: "You lay watchin' them off, eat a hole in his cloth" is supposed to be: "He lay watchin' a moth eat a hole in his cloth."

Thanks for posting this! What a gem.

  • Wow! Thanks for this. I'm left speechless...

  • @90265SE14 SORRY i accidentally clicked the "thumbs down" on your comment D: if there was a way to reverse it...

  • @InfiniteExistence No worries. Dunno how to reverse it either. They should almost have an "Are You SURE You Wanna Vote Thumbs Up or Thumbs down?" box to click. LOL ;D

  • Getting Chills

  • Interesting Lyric - sound reminds me of Tom Waits...

  • Parabéns Gostei muito do vidío obrigado Ev2chip,ficou muito bom ñ tenho mais para escrever nota 1.000...Um tesouro que vc colocou par nós fã .Vleu DEUS te Abençõe...

  • Can you say goosebumps?

  • This is just wonderful... Yeats would enjoy..

  • that is the sound of heart break, I know it well, but

I will believe you if you say Yeats would enjoy.. I know the feeling sweet and hard

  • check out "The Man who Dreamed of Faeryland".. I think you will find it interesting

  • thank you, I tried but no/go...Google may help..

  • what an amazing song, i adore it.

    thanks for posting

  • beautiful song

  • What's this song saying. Probably in the top five songs he's ever written.

  • Lyrics correction: it's not "A banshee 'good night'"' it's "and bid you 'good night'", but in idiomatic speech (one of Springsteen's trademarks) it sounds like "'n bidjya 'good night'".

  • Thanks, fixed it.

  • seem born to run on the high

  • It is a different time and he is a different person. Think how you were when you were in your early twenties. That said, his first two albums were so infused with rich words and images. Loved the deep dynamics.

  • It baffles me that Bruce can write something like this in his early twenties which is so rich and deep, but 30 years later he comes up with pedestrian dross such as 'Empty Sky' or half of the stuff on his new album.

Aren't artists supposed to get better over time? I know it's subjective and he writes whatever he wants to at the time, but come on - 'Queen of the Supermarket'? Give us a break.

Note to Jon Landau: next 'official' release should include some of this fantastic archive stuff.

  • dude, you are so right.

I would kill to see the young bruce again. I consider him the best artist of all-t

    old bruce, not so much

  • @theTOOJ i kinda find it really disrespectful to always cut artists into the "old" and the "young" parts..he still is the same person for god's sake. say that you would have liked to see him in the 70's, but don't say you want to see the "young bruce". that sounds like bullshit.

  • queen of the supermarket sounds like bullshit to me

  • very like lost in the flood

  • still listening to this..........its just madly fantastic, it has such power, its so dark, so uh.....its just absolutely mindblowing......bruce u are nothing less than god.....

  • As crazy as it sounds....you may be right!

  • Say what you want about the sound of his voice; but "uninspiring"?!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nurse, check 'em for a pulse!

  • Interesting lyrics. I like the last verse.

  • Winter Song is on the "Christmas on E Street" bootleg cd. I've ALWAYS loved this song. It's fantastic and he's brilliant.

  • completely blew me away...There's a reason he's called the Boss! Thanks

  • Fantastic. Sweet jesus in a sidecar....

  • ok since i saw this a coupe of days ago, i cant stop listening to it, its incredbe!!!!!!

i really dont know how it was never put on a cd, its just unbelievable brilliant!

  • increidble..........how did this never get a cd release its so amazingly brilliant

  • thanks, beautiful

  • beautiful, could have seen this on either his first or second

  • Why the hell was this never released?!

  • Great Song

  • at 0:50 what is that gig called

  • It's from "Bruce Springsteen Live 1972 at The Gaslight Club - Henry Boy", also here on youtube.

  • Bruce the poet - I got goosebumps listening to this song! It's beautiful and haunting...like you said. Thanks for sharing!
