The towers were built with there main supports in the center of the building, not on the sides and in the walls. So when the plane almost made contact, the hijackers turn the plane up slightly so it would crash in and the back engine would burn through the supports, collapsing the building. However, there was no real investigation, so no one could have defined proof, just their own guess on what happened.
