that guitar does have its purposes in experimental stuff but in playin normal blues, country , rock, metal classic rock or jazz or that kinda stuff i dont think it would serve too well
I really dont think they are taking the guitar to a higher more innovative level at all with these built in sounds. A guitar should only do 1 part of the work. Of course the human aspect BUT the amp is the thing that makes the guitar pop and blow you mind. The combined warmth of the guitar in an awesome amp is pure magic. Making your amp sound the way YOU want it to, making it personal. Not some shitty pre-sets in the guitar. Sorry, really not liking the "Robot-guitars" at all dudes.
Kind of an odd duck for a guitar demo but the guitar is revolutionary tool for pros who are tired of lugging useless pointless pedals around and being stuck with those sounds. People are afraid of change w/e... I refuse to buy pedals unless they are volume or wah wah pedals now. What I think people are afraid of the most is the fact that they think the guitar is doing all the work and taking the human aspect away. Well not true it still requires the same skill to play as a normal guitar - tuning
i think government is bothering gibson ONLY because they created this terrible guitar.... ha!
i love how moby talked about replacing a pedalboard, then demonstrated not needing a pedalboard anymore because its all at your fingertips, and how you can control your sound... then basically turned an effect off and on from the guitar, same as stepping on an off a pedal.. only with a pedal, your hands can stay on the guitar, you can keep strumming or soloing without having to stop to switch on a pedal
This is the ugliest guitar I have ever seen. I feel sorry for Moby. It looks like he was trying really hard to like it, but looks like he just did a stand-up job trying to fill 3 minutes with lies. C'mon Gibson, bring back your QC, and step it up!
Fuck Gibson if they already made a digital guitar and it was a piece of shit! Now they take one of my personal favorite guitars and just shit all over it with this digital bullshit and they aren't even allowed to call that monstrosity a firebird because it looks like the company just went "yeah we'll put firebird and Gibson on this and any idiot will buy it" so fuck Gibson fuck that piece of shit guitar and just for spice fuck you too Moby
This is what I hate about line6. Sounds digital and not genuine. In other words cheap. It's very saddening that Gibson have decided to go down this route . I thought the "robot" guitars were okay because it might actually help players change between different tunings at a faster rate. However I still think a normal standard or custom is much better. The firebird x is where Gibson have gone too far. This is someone from Gibson playing and they can't even make it sound good. It sounds awful.
Oh my god Moby the shredder! the great guitar hero!!! Damn gibson! you have a little sense of humor to meet the most orrible guitar with the unable fucking guy on earth!
To open up I just like to say, there are lots of folks on here who appear to hate this guitar. I did not like it when I read about it. After seeing it in action, I like it a little better, although I feel it is very gimmicky. I like regular Explorers and Firebirds better. I would like to know what kind of amp that was. I felt it had an alright sound to it. One last note, with all due respect. I hope some on here play better than they spell!
I see the pro's of the robot guitar (played a robot SG and the different tunigs were spot on and quick (quicker than doing in manual anyway) but I toally don't see the use of the digital effects (Get a boss GT10 or a digitech RP1000).
Sorry, I'd like to be positive but this is one unattractive guitar, full of fakeness and impractical features. Moby is probably a nice guy but he isn't convincing on this and isn't really a guitar player. I don't care if it will be a limited edition or valuable in the future cos no-one bought it. I have modern guitars and a '65 Firebird 3 and this thing just sucks. Embarassing. Henry, talk to your customers and get back to what you do best...
I am not impressed at all, its like the bastard child of a Kramer and an 80's style keyboard. Wow, you can change the effect on the guitar, that is way easier when playing that tapping a foot peddle. I wouldn't be caught dead playing this guitar live.
No one will ever replace my pedals... EVER! Plus I don't like the body this guitar has, it's ugly and these days it's better to buy an older gibson guitar than a new one for pretty much the same price since the quality has dropped but the prices haven't. Even if I won this crap I would probably sell it ASAP and buy something else.
"A certain type of player could really use this", "I like the idea of"... all the while playing something with the tone of a cheap silvertone electric from the '60s
You would think a video about this guitar would include something that sounds good. This thing doesn't. Ack!!! Yes it is more compact than having a bunch of pedals, but it will not do what those pedals will do or be as flexible and adjustable. It must weigh a ton as well. But then the Les Paul recording model weighed a ton and that sold so well....not! Why does Gibson feel the need to put out a new model guitar every fifteen minutes? I don't suppose its a bean counter driven decision.
Ugly body, headstock doesn't look good, don't see them selling many so buy one now as an investment because they will be very rare in 20 years time. Looks like a cheap 1960s Italian thing.
this is the dumbest shit ive ever seen. its going to fail so hard. no real guitar player wants their effects in their guitar. you guys need a new design team, and market researchers. plus its ugly
You can tell even Moby is struggling to try and convince himself of this guitar.. He's thinking "car payment due in a few days i'll say whatever they pay me to say, just sign the check!"... lol...
Does this efects are digital? and why it would replace the pedal board, if i use analog pedals, its good because i can replase them if one brokes or get lost, this is not gona replace pedals, im sorry about that.
I'm having a hard time getting over the transformation from a beautiful reverse body classic design and a truly outstanding sound to an all inclusive technological beast. For over $3000, that price better include a massage, Heineken in my living room, and groupies.
Didnt Vox do that many years ago? Effects built into the guitar? Sorry, I think this is a bomb. Good thing it is limited productiion. They wont have too many to get rid of when it doesnt sell. I love my 335 and my J-160E but not this thing.
Didnt Vox do that many years ago? Effects built into the guitar? Sorry, I think this is a bomb. Good thing it is limited productiion. They wont have too many to get rid of when it doesnt sell.
this is going to be such a rare guitar, no one wants it.....go back to what you are good at Gibson and cease production of this toneless crap and save yourself the embarrassment.
Crap crap crap. Moby is a tool. Give Angus Young that junk and see what he does with it! Just buy an iPad for 500 and an amplink for 30 and GarageBand for the iPad for FIVE dollars and you got ten thousand times more sounds than this junk could ever make. Gibson your dropping the ball big time. Let Apple handle the SOUNDS, you make the GUITAR
I don't like the video... most of us expected a true guitar player to be interviewed, with a more convincent talking about the Firebird. Last days I saw the ad about the 335 saying "Townshend, Grohl, Berry", do you guys think Chuck is after Dave? To which kind of people you're trying to sell these guitars? I mean, these are expensive guitars, there in the US and here in Argentina, you really have to review the market which will buy your products. I used to love Gibson, this is not serious at all
THIS IS JUST A GIBSON FREAK TO PRETEND.......;D U KNOW WAT MEAN...SURE IT WILL BE DELETED SOON SO THAT IT BECOMES HARD TO FIND ITEM AND THEN U GUYS BID IT HARD, hellya!!!!!!!!!!!!
stomp boxes or pedal boards in general are more easily accessable to change your sound, having to reach a knob and twiddle and hopefully hit the right preset whilst playing a tune is impractical. For the studio i'm sure this would be an alright toy to play with or even at home but live use - no way, shit idea and shit looking and way too over priced for what it does.
No disrespect to Moby, but the whole role out of this awful guitar is like the instrument itself; amateurish (delayed etc) and dire. Can someone tell me what is so revolutionary (in terms of something we need or even desire) about this guitar. We have had perfectly good floor based modelling FX for years. Gibson have lost the plot. If you can't be more revolutionary than this, or even better looking, then stick to making Les Pauls, SGs, 335s etc.
"Using technologies that did not exist even a few years ago" I'm a bit worried that the tec may be obsolete in another few years. Really need Phil X to revue this.
Somehow, I don't think that he's very enthusiastic.
Dear Gibson,
I'm putting my SG back in it's case and taking my Strat out of its. I don't want to be associated with your joke of a brand anymore you corporate clueless monkeys.
I don't get all the hating on a guitar with built-in electronics. I bet every one of you has a pile of stomp boxes you're using - what is the difference? I also don't get the hating on robot-tuning. Whether you're on stage or in the studio, being in-tune is the mark of a professional. The ability to go from a dropped /alt tuning and back to standard tuning in seconds - and SILENTLY is huge. This instrument would be ideal for a pit-orchestra type player doing off-Broadway.
@moucon there is a huge difference. i get to pick the tone, delay and everything i want to do with pedals. i dont have to stick to gibson's shitty idea of overdrive. aslo the auto tunning sucks as shown with their failed robot series. have you ever recorded in a studio? a real studio i mean, the engineer would slap you in the face if you pulled out a gibson robot
"I think it's ummm....... for.......certain kinds of guitar players.......it could be phenomenal"
Translation: I think it sucks, but maybe it could...... possibly in some alternate universe....... make some other super-sucky guitar players not suck.....as much........maybe........maybe not. I'm a doushe who had one semi-relevant song 20 years ago, why are you even asking me.
If they removed the automatic tuner and lowered the price to where the average guitarist can buy it, it would do wonders. Anyways, I like his amp though. What is it?
@e7353 Definitely! but it's a horrible era they are encouraging, where only rich naive folks can own a quality instrument and they will and DO pay the ridiculous prices, to me it's in contrast to a city slicker entering a mud race with a Ferrari in Kentucky... what the fuck I can't even...
I'm very unimpressed with this guitar. I have a ton of empathy for Gibson with the flood situation, but I don't respect that they're trying to make this guitar out to be a million times better than it is.
I do admit that I haven't played one, so in that regard my opinion is not final, but I haven't heard ANY videos of this guitar with a good tone. It would be useful in the studio, perhaps, but I would never take it on stage.
that guitar does have its purposes in experimental stuff but in playin normal blues, country , rock, metal classic rock or jazz or that kinda stuff i dont think it would serve too well

Moby: "For certain types of guitar players it's gonna be phenomenal..." You're talking about the blind ones, right?

Good demo vid...im presuming most of the dislikes are for the guitar!!!...

If they removed the automatic tuner and lowered the price to where the average guitarist can buy it, it would do wonders. Anyways, I like his amp though. What is it?

what's wrong with stompboxes? Why would you put digital technology, or effects in general, inside a guitar? I would never even consider it.

all guitars are good... different guitars inspire you to play different things...

@e7353 Definitely! but it's a horrible era they are encouraging, where only rich naive folks can own a quality instrument and they will and DO pay the ridiculous prices, to me it's in contrast to a city slicker entering a mud race with a Ferrari in Kentucky... what the fuck I can't even...

so, if you cant buy a pedalboard, get a firebird x instead?
firebird x: above $3000 for sure.
or
buy an awesome pro level guitar at $2500
and a good level pedalboard like boss gt10 or line 6 hd500: $500

I'm very unimpressed with this guitar. I have a ton of empathy for Gibson with the flood situation, but I don't respect that they're trying to make this guitar out to be a million times better than it is.
I do admit that I haven't played one, so in that regard my opinion is not final, but I haven't heard ANY videos of this guitar with a good tone. It would be useful in the studio, perhaps, but I would never take it on stage.
