  • This sounds very American to me - partly because the USA had lots of commercial radio stations competing for teenagers in those years. Thus the girl in this song could listen "as it played the hit parade each night" on some rock & roll station.

    Transistor radios were a big deal in the late 1950s, because for the first time radios could be really small; small enough to fit in a pocket. A similar song to this one is Freddy Cannon's "Transistor Sister".

  • Alma used tobe on tv a lot in the UK I think she had her own show on BBC TV

    The first time I saw a pocket radio was in an American film where a guy in a posse had one with an earpice I dont know if it was a transister one or valves (tubes)
