So funny! And the cough at the end of a long note about quitting smoking is perfect. I don't know why people think he's being sarcastic with songs like this. I think he just has a gleeful sense of humor. The fat cat in the Everybody Loves Me Baby video should be part of this too, beside Don. Perfect tongue in cheek humor.
this song is from about '77 FA stage (as you put it) was '74 and is only related to the song 'Wonderful baby'. But fyi.. this song is meant to be funny ;))
I'm 36, and loved Don since the '70s, thanks to one of my older brothers, who taught himself to play virtually every one of his songs on guitar. He'd play and I'd sing
I saw him preview this song on the "Mike Douglas Show" in the 70's. Just Don and a guitar, and a description of how the song matched the repetitious nature of a "work-out". I have been searching for McClean clips all day, but didn't expect to find this one. Thanks for posting!
It's nice to see some of McLean apart from "Vincent," "Pie," "Crying," and "And I Love You So." That said, this is a clever song, but I've never liked it very much.... I'd like to see "Jerusalem" or "Chain Lightning," or "O My, What a Shame," or some of the other, lesser-known songs that I love.... Or "The Statue."

This guy wrote scores of funny, sarcastic songs, and it's hard to find them on youtube or in music stores. Glad this is here.

hilarious indeed. Only Don could/would write a song like this.
