  • @aggager078 Agreed!!!!!

  • Quality of epic proportions. That voice....sigh.

  • The 30 dislikers of this have one thing in common. The very flames of Hell dance at the mention of their names.

  • Simply put, this lady's voice is amazing.

  • BLESS THOSE i lUV HER RENDITION IT MAKES ME CRY!!CHACKA!!

  • I have not thought of this for a long time!

It is as great as ever!

  • Helen does this song justice. Sara Brightman does an incredible version as well. Helen has an awesome voice, and she sings with true passion. Thanks for the vid and Peace always...

  • I love this song sooo much! On monday, I'm going to audition for Les Miserables with this song!

  • ανατριχιαζω! χαιρετισμους απο ελλάδα.

  • Thank you Helen!

  • This song is a rip-off from Felix Mendelssohn's violin concerto in e minor, second movement (1844). If you like this, get to know it's origin.

  • @ernent WOW, I just listened to it. Absolutely beautiful. Thank you very, very much for posting this information.

    Rick

  • @Ricklawrence Glad you liked it (and apologies for the delay). I recommend the whole concerto, not for nothing is it one of the most popular pieces of music ever written and youtube is flooded with excellent performances of it.

  • my wife to be really loves this song ,( ms rev was born 1991 ), i can see why , inpirational to womenkind , go on girls , find strenght and love . i like this myself because of the pride in ms (rev) louise b , (also this song was released the year i was born ) best wishes ladies xxx

  • @THEREVERENDSHAUN : Ummm, I was born in 1952...it's message is for us all!

  • @dumboldon Born in 52 also. Getting old. lol Peace!!

  • @dumboldon You are so correct! Live well!

Gracias Helen Reddy!

  • I used this song for my audition for pirates of panzance and nailed it :)i love this song to so calm but strong :)

  • My mother would play this on her 8 track player in the car. I felt like ripping it out and throwing it out the window. But now I hear it and it brings back the good memories of the times we had together. she died when I was 12 and this music still once in a while plays in the back of my head reminding me of that she is still around.

  • when my son was born this song came on,i cried all the way home from hospitibl

  • @glenn573 thanks...that made me cry...

  • I went to Wikipedia to find out where Helen Reddy was from. I was thinking somewhere in the deep south since her accent in this song sounds a bit "country". I was surprised to find out she's actually Australian!

  • Ha ha ha... She says she's the one who's always been... so calm, so cool... no lover's fool... running every show... he scares her so.

Take a number, Helen Reddy. lol

  • Best version . . . by the girl from Oz . . .

  • Helen`s voice has a special tone in the song, always thought it was tops.

  • well i guess im the only one who thinks this version sucks ..compared to the original.. and i wasnt even born then //////////

  • @phillygirl5968 You must be the most unique minority alive. A walking life support system for a donor heart. Too bad you weren't born "then". It must be an utterly futile existence you find yourself trapped in. And indeed, it must suck. 'Cause, if you can miss this, there's a whole universe or two that you bypassed getting to here, sunshine... you took the "Express" instead of the "Cross Town".

  • @dieselheart001 Where can I find you and Kick your ASS!

  • @1961gj Are you sure you want to find me?

  • @dieselheart001 That was such an excellent reply. I don;t know whether to laugh or cry. I feel so sorry for the young people of today who have no idea about talent. I thank God every day for YouTube. I simply cannot imagine a world without it. Memories, I have many, but to relive them is totally priceless. Your comment in reply to the idiot wa worth waking every morning; Thank You!

  • @B52sguy Thanks for the reply back, I really was amazed at the degree of passion

behind such a response. I mean, this IS an open forum where all are free to voice opinion, but to get into that big a snit over Yvonne vs Helen? Makes me glad I didn't comment on ABBA's Agnetha Faltskog's beautiful Swedish version of this. That would have really set off the fireworks. Each singer gives this song a life of its own by their interpretation. That's what makes it so unique. Thanks again!!

  • @B52sguy Alice Cooper once had a song, with the lyrics: "Some folks- live for no reason".

  • It takes me back in time and guess what it feels good for awhile boy it's to bad we have to get old

  • Yvonne is the best production performer of this, and Helen is the best performer of it

    outside of production.

  • Oh what such good memories Helen reddy was one of the best for this song

  • She has to be considered one of the greatest female singers of all time. Yhere will never be another voice like this. Helen and Karen Carpenter have to be my two favorite female singers of all time.

  • Helen Reddy was so under-rated as a singer. She's got such a unique voice; there's never any doubt about who you're listening to. Thanks for posting this song. Her version is the best.

  • this is my fav besides yvonne elliman. 70's as style and the 60's had class

  • 1 of my favorites song..helen reddy, 1 of the best

  • brought back nice memories

  • According to her autobiography she got a contract with Capital Records for ONE single ( two sides). This was the B side and she said she was nervous as this was her last chance. Next stop back to Australia. When they heard the play back it was agreed it had something!!

  • who sang the original of this?

  • A lot of singers had peformed this song on stage and recorded it on their CD. The performance of Miss Ellimann remains the most powerful one with true emotions of love and devotion while Miss Reddy reigns in the field of recording. Her version remains the most beatiful version and not to mention the orchestration. One can hear this song for so many hours and yet never get tired of its melody and message that Love Can Change Everyone and Everything.

  • this song is of one trying to understand how to love a man, a new man, JESUS

  • get it thru your heads that it is a coming of age tune and I as one who served in the armed forces was searrching for something, anything, to believe in and that is LOVE. be it for Christ or you spouse, or just everyone. superstar is not so much on being superficial as being real to your own self........... deal with it and stop whining! According to Bruce, that is me. I survived Vietnam in the military, did you ?

  • I am only just knowing of this song.. and at the right time too... just as the title says :$

  • Helen Reddy, Yvonne Elliman and Sarah Brightman have all been mentioned here as singers of this song....I'm gonna throw Kate Ceberano into the mix.

  • I know what you mean jimmy. Those were the days so much happening i wouldnt trade being young today for the memories of those times. We were the luckiest generation i history

  • I love this song so much

  • @ALLAHGOD, iam a devout christian and i agree 100%

  • I remember the first time I heard this, driving down Pleasure House Road at

Chic's Beach. It gave me chills....and it still does!...

  • I thought she was into girls.

  • The definitive version with apologies to Yvonne whom I love!

  • Since God can be anything He likes, of course He can be a simple man. And indeed He is. To get the accurate answer and face God Almighty in human form like all of us, just watch by typing in YOUTUBE SEARCH: "WE GOD ALMIGHTY" or "THE ALMIGHTY GOD WITHIN" or "GOD THE PARTNER." Do it now. • fantastic singer and the best arrangement in the world wendy flaherty

  • Helen Reddy's version is nice, bur it does NOT compare to Yvonne Ellimans. No way, no how!

  • @PHX99 I couldn't agree more. I really like Helen's version but Yvonne's is the standard to which all others are compared. Her ability to hit those high notes... with such strength, volume or whatever it is in her voice is just absolutely amazing. I have the original album and her voice is angelic.

  • When I was 5...Helen Reddy's Greatest hits was the first album I ever heard...my brother and I played it over and over..on one of those old cabinet stereos...

    Priceless... Love you Helen. xoxox

  • a better rendition of song, i don't know how to love him by helen reddy, nice one

  • This song stands the test of time. It is so amazing. Helen Reddy's voice is so beautiful.

  • In her autobiography she stated that Capitol Records gave her the OK to record only one single (two sides). She did not want to record the song but was convinced to do so. If the record failed she would have to return to Australia. She recorded the song and in the playback she could hear her own nervousness. I think it was this that added to her version and made it a hit.

  • Nobody could have sung this better than Helen Reddy.

  • am I the only one who hears in some parts the piano's maybe not tuned right ? ie. from 0:40

  • she always had a very strong voice...beautiful

  • its too bad Karen Carpenter didn't cover this. She had the Fine voice ever

  • @jimkos33 No doubt this version is good- it's the one I remember growing up during the '70s- but Karen Carpenter would have would have smashed it over center field and out of the park.

  • #Mlike i don't know how to love him- helen reddy ,so good Helen !!

  • I like Yvonne Elliman's version better. No comparision.

  • @kanakapono yes you're right, no comparison - Helen sings rings around Yvonne ;-/

  • @kanakapono

I think that sarah brightman is best. yvonne elliman is rather odd...

  • san francisco-march 1971-lincoln high school-3 months before graduation. a girl waked into homeroom and sang this song to me. straight to my heart. never forgot that moment. greatest time in my life. four months later joined the marines july 12th 1971. dam I miss those times--and I love all you people everywhere at that time. only love can conquer hate.

  • @jimmyd10100 SEMPER FI!

  • @jimmyd10100 Hey Jimmy, thanks for sharing. Give her hug for me - if you find her. Beers

  • @jimmyd10100 Glad you made it back home, Jimmy D. I was in HS in '71 too, and this song was singularly striking. Jesus Christ Superstar reawakened faith for a lot of people back then. And Helen was incredible. I listen to "Peaceful" whenever I need a little trip back in time.

  • @jimmyd10100 How awesome. Happy for you.

  • @jimmyd10100 You went to a fine school. I went to a cool school. Balboa High class of '69 San Francisco. We went to a culture exchange with Mills high in the suburbs. My contribution was a $150.00 1955 Chevy Wagon street rod with its ass end reaching for the sky ( Flipped the leaf springs upside down and shoved some coil springs in. $15.00) Ran a 409 cubic inch chevy V8 that my cousin gave me for helping him rebuild his 1951 Chevy, I was popping 6-8" wheelies in no time. Thanks for the memories

  • @jimmyd10100 They were indeed such good times, Jimmy. That very same year, the girl with whom I had shared Lab Assistant duties for the Orem High School science department gave me a copy of the 45. I never saw it coming! We need a lot more of this kind of thing. Your brother at arms, Sid

  • @jimmyd10100 God is the Source of True Love, and His Love has conditions as does His hate

  • lol, i like my parents' music

  • This recording is extraordinary...Perfect!

  • I can still see my mom's Orange 45 spinning with the Yellow disc in the center!...

  • @BobLemkeSuxDix You sicko!!!

  • @BlankfrackCripledFUK You fuckwit .... have you actually listened to the song ... or more importantly do you have a soul or a sense of ethics .. you are certainly not looking for great songs on youtube .. but purely look for ones that you can antogonise about .. I don't necessarily believe in god but certainly can't degrade this message to the degree the you have ... poor form.

  • @yourdickis2limp You fuckwit .... have you actually listened to the song ... or more importantly do you have a soul or a sense of ethics .. you are certainly not looking for great songs on youtube .. but purely look for ones that you can antogonise about .. I don't necessarily believe in god but certainly can't degrade this message to the degree the you have ... poor form.

  • @yourdickis2limp HAHA you asshole. your name says it all... poor lil you

  • This is just terrific - my xmas present from my boss !

  • Great writing and arranging along with a wonderful vocal by Helen..

  • lacks feeling and power for me, I am not moved by it at all!

  • @summerbaybelle Perhaps...but, you see, this is a song sung by a young girl who's in love with Jesus himself....a unique perspective !

  • GREAT LADY! GREAT VOICE! ENOUGH SAID!

  • Originally composed thinking in the love of master´s girl friend....

  • such a pretty song.

  • kids these days think they can just jump right in and be a star....or can they?

  • san francisco 1971. this is when us men had respect for women. a girl walked into class and I was sitting there by myself, and she started to sing this song to me. when does any woman do that kind of thing anymore. dam! It went straight to my heart. never will forget that moment. we have lost the love and respect, because of the selfish times we live in. july 12th 1971 joined the marines. never forgot that girl and beautiful song.

  • @jimmyd10100

    tell it my friend

    good job!

  • I love this lady...and her wonderful voice -especially when she sings this song

  • reminds me of the movie jesus christ superstar

i love the movie an watch it every year :)

  • Helen Reddy is incredible. I have always loved this song.

  • this is 100 times better than mollysirisheyes version

  • I love the way Helen sings. To me her voice quality is kind of like Elvis's.

  • Man more lost treasures from the past. I used to listen to this a lot when I was still in gradeschool, and that's over 20 years ago.

  • This brings me back!

  • oh, i just was being cheeky: YES!!!!!!

    PTL

  • I assume you know about whom she's singing of....

  • @scotnick59 Jesus Christ

  • simply awesome.....

  • Pure nostalagie...

  • Beautiful!!!!

    Thank you, Helen Reddy.

  • This is the best version of this song

  • @annasumner No, the best version is from the original sound track to Jesus Christ Superstar

  • one of the greatest songs ever! 1971 graduation class lincoln high school in san francisco, a young girl sang this song to me, before graduation. four months later I joined the marines. I love this song so much, and yet miss that time and moment!

  • @jimmyd10100

Damn, dude, we graduated the same year, same town..I went to Bal though..actually went and tried to sign up for the Marines but was turned down for bad eyesight, and bad feet..I dated a girl from St. Johns Ursuline who sang this as well in the choir at St. Marys Church on Gough..small world when you think about it? You serve anytime in "Nam?

  • Jesus Christ Superstar!

  • Absolutely a life changing song for me!

  • The "Queen of Pop," scores again. I remember "the Midnight Special," when Helen hosted the first 5 shows. Her performance of "i Am Woman," will stay with me all my day's. Jay M. Kiffer

  • Great voice. Politics sucked, but...

  • i read all the comments down there and i can see that none of you know what this song is or who this song is sung to. the Man it was writen for.

  • love it;

  • I believe this is her first big hit. This song came out in 1971 - wow, I didn't realize it has been almost 40yrs ago when I first heard it on a radio. Time and Tide certainly wait for no one.

  • She had such great voice!

  • 12-jul-10 Creo que la versión de Helen Reddy me gusta más.

  • Sorry guys I think she sings it well but theres no soul and Yvonne Elliman sings it with soul, heart and passion. To me me this sounds like something off the Brady Bunch Show. Sorry!!!

  • opposite idea of i am woman her signature song

  • she is so beautiful. i love this song.

  • the reason I love this version the most is because, and I may be wrong, Helen sounds genuinely nervous and a little scared covering this song.....and to me that's what the song is about ...she's falling in love for the first time and not quite sure she likes that....

  • @zamusicza Very astute comment, I agree completely with it!

  • @zamusicza Hi, I feel the same about this song....you said it all for me....thanks, joanie

  • voice of an angel

  • thanks for sharing

She really has a way of singing that song that just pulls the universe through ones soul

  • The theme song of the 1973 movie Jesus Christ Superstar. Remembering 1973......year of turbulence and confusion.

  • I taught her to sing like that........... Yup, Cupertino High School, music class 6th period. Well ya she could carry a tune but that girl was heavy beatin the 3rd, Had her come over to meet a friend. You know the rest...

  • I saw a drink coaster made out of

this 45 rpm record. It's on Etsy

Just look up the song title to see

it. Very COOL! I LOVE this movie

    and the song!

  • this is THE VERSION no one comes close to Helen.

  • Such a beautiful song.

  • If I am embarsing you :) then that's my goal

  • This is amazing!

  • If I remember right, this was in Jesus Christ Superstar.

  • yeah i remember this on the radio during those lazy sunday afernoon's in the 70's. i prefer Yvonne Elliman's version though. it just sounds more like its from her soul and her heart.

  • Helen's version of this song is WAY better than Yvonne Elliman's. This is the version which we all heard on the radio in the early '70s and still love today. THE ORIGINAL AND BEST.

  • @JohnnyS001 OMG! I couldn't agree with you more!

  • @ThePattyred Thanks, Patty.

  • I'm not a huge Reddy fan, but I like this recording very much. The version by which all others must be judged, of course, is Yvonne Elliman's. But Reddy provides other colors and some different takes on phrasing that remain intriguing and appealing:) --

  • when I was growing up in the 70s I really wanted Helen to be my mom. She would sing to me at night, she would wear lime green sweater dresses, our home would be filled with music and laughter....ah, the dreams of a little boy never die

  • @asherhawke I've never LOLd over a youtube comment before. Thanks for the chuckle.

  • @asherhawke I'm going to cuddle with my patchwork crocheted afghan in your honor tonight.

  • I was checking out videos from "Jesus Christ Superstar" and i viewed Yvonne Elliman version of this song, and i thought i remembered Helen Reddy singing this song.Sure enough its on youtube.I was like 10-12 years old listening to AM radio.I love Helen's voice. When i listen to Dido,i think of Helen Reddy.

  • Many thanks to Dr. Joohan Kim at Yonsei University in Korea for reminding me and others of this beautiful song through Twitter. It refreshes my fond memories of the song.

  • classy!

  • I enjoy this lilting light version a lot... I think Yvonnes has more power and emotion behind it tho...

  • Agreed. Helen's version has a clean purity in the timbre, but Yvonne's version sounds more heartfelt; there's a deeper emotional reservoir from which she draws from.

  • IMO this is the best version of this song - better than Yvonne Elliman - really like the way Helen Reddy sings it.

  • silky-smooth vocals. lovely mellifluous tone.

  • nice love this song

  • this is great I am 36 and remember my mom singing this! I love it always will!

  • Helen Reddy has always been my most favorite female singers! My other favorites area Patsy Cline, Becky Hobbs, Judy Rodman, Darlene Zschech, and Amy Grant!

  • Boy, does this bring back memories from high school in 71-72. Helen did a great job.

  • Briliant lyric here,so sensitive to the botched male ego,she had rockers too like' leave me alone'(ruby red dress) a classic, does anyone know if she has box set output,i'd love to own one.

  • You really have no clue where this song is from or what it's about do you?
