To funny I almost can see my home. I also love the park there, I grew up in this area and played all around out in the desert there long before there was anything going on out there. What they have done since those days is incredable. Thanks for sharing.
I've spent a lot of time in the wetlands, hiking, biking, running, fishing, exploring - there are some strange sights to see there - Farther down the river nearer lake las vegas is a small population of raccoons and beavers that live in this dense forest area! I have no idea how they made their way there, maybe from Mt. Charleston? The water is also filled with bass, and in some ponds are giant goldfish as big as carp!
Today 4/13/11 I saw a large long neck leather back turtle on the down side of the large bridge. The shell was 12 to 18 inches across and neck was about 12 inches. Hard to imagine the head withdrawing for protection. What kind of turtle was it? I can find no answers on google. I love Wetlands park! I’m from NYC and always stop at least twice when I visit LV.

Looks amazing. Like you explained, I had no idea (other than the mountain ranges) that such beauty existed out there.
