Great Fantastic Game.

AOE II on Windows 7: Right click the game icon and click properties, then click compatibility, run in 98, 2000 or XP.

Each time you play Ctl, Alt, Delete then click Task Manager then process. There will be a process called "explorer.exe", end this process. Push tab/space bar/enter and you'll go back into the game and it should work fine. Once you've finished the game Ctl, Alt, Delete, Task Manager, process click File, New Task and type in "explore.exe" to go back to normal.

@TheDigitalBrits Some pixels which I'm sure are supposed to be green are displayed as other bright colors such as pink or yellow, so you end up with a map with terrain littered with skittles and christmas trees. I was told it was because the game was incompatible with newer operating systems. Nevertheless, it is still playable. And no, online play is pretty much dead.

@Lucenian There is a trick that might help you, even though you might not like it. While in game, press windows+d for desktop, then ctrl+shift+esc for processes. End explorer.exe and get back to the game. Windows 7 tested and confirmed.

Personally..I loved AOE..I loved AOE 2..but AOE 3..i just couldnt stand..he even mentions it all in the review...its simplified too much...i liked the little realistic nuances like having to bring back wood that was collected...I dont care for the era...personal taste...I thought the gameplay just felt odd and off from previous versions...I dont like that you limited in victory conditions...seems they took away alot of what made AOE great...took whats left...made it shiny...and people bought it.

i play alot of rts games and im really good at em im 15 my dad is better though having a har time facing him but anyways to the point. when u are able to get farms an plantations dont just abandon all the other reasorces farms get u resorces muuuuch slower than hunting or get a livestock pen and while ur sheep fatten farm then as soon as their fat get food from em plantation and farms are your last!! and i mean absolute last option

you can't have 8 players multiplayer, villagers don't have to deposit resources, you can't trade with your allies since there is only 2 teams ...

Yup. Max population is 200. Settlers, infantry, and some misc. units are mostly 1 population. Cavalry and artillery range from 2-5. You shouldn't have to worry about population that much.
