>> TNS' presentation of this ever-green composition by 'Pattanam' Subramania Iyer is superb, and presented without intricate artwork woven on complex Taala patterns or tune (Mettu) embellishments. It shines due to its sheer beauty and simplicity. The video uploader has only limited tools to reduce the noise inherent in the originala recording which shd have largely been due to ill maintained eqpt, less than able recordist, poor acoustics, ... which are a bane of our Sabhas.
Prof Sambamurti, learned musicologist, who has to his credit numerous pracically useful Carnatic music books with kritis with great notation, lucid accounts of Raaga-s,composers) has listed dozens of Doshas( flaws)in singing. Not a single musician can be found with none of these. Subject to these general obsns., TNS is a musician of a very high calibre, and trained under great masters in not just items to sing but how to cultivate and maintain a great voice to suit his fabulous imagination.
How beautiful. What a brisk and effervescent Shanmukhapriya. TNS is truly blessed with such a voice. Only wish the sound quality on the video was better.
@schopenhauersring I agree with your observation, both parts (effervescence, voice; and rather unsatisfactory audio which continues to be a major shortcoming of all our auditoriums in India0
In carnatic music they keep rythm by, kind of slapping on their thigh. The towel is to lessen the pain on the thigh. Also to wipe sweat (if there is no AC!)
it is good to see tns perform like this. but the video and audio doesn't match
