I got this card for $40 to replace my old (same) one. I can run any game that I have at max graphics with no lag. Why spend $300 on a card thats way more than any game needs?
@burchified. It's a great game and very hardware demanding. Hell, even good old Crysis is a tortured test, even on new hardware. Bottom line is, a lot of games need a lot more nowadays. I'm running a gtx470 @825mhz, and an i7930 @4.2 ghz.... these kinds of games stress my limits. The 9800gt was great bang for the Buck for its day, but it is really going to struggle in some of the newer PC dedicated titles if you want to Max settings.
@Droogie128 Final Fantasy Tactics has some crappy graphics and gave me over 150 hours of pure fun. My point is, there are much better things to spend your money on.
@burchified Depending on what you want to play. I like playing max settings on newer games @1080p +. 9800gt is still a fine mid range card, but it can't compete with the newer ones. It all depends on what you're after, but saying a $300 video card is more than any game needs is a flat out lie. It's needed for a lot of newer games, and even some older games. Crysis 1 is still a system killer 4 years later.
@leshorte nice find dude, i got the 1gb version for 120, i spent 30 bucks more than you but i dont feel robbed at all, it is a great card, not rediculously amazing but i think priced far below its performance. i dont have a lot of money and im a pretty casual gamer, this card is more than i could have asked for, plus i have a 360, so im set
The 9600GT isn't as powerful as the 8800GT, and the 9800GT is the same as an 8800GT performance wise, check benchmarks. And AMD processors are utter shite. The C2D 8400 out performs Phenom Quad Cores for christ sake. People who say AMD processors are better for gaming don't know shit :P, or are AMD fanboys. Anyways, awesome vid. "Sweet as a nut" Lol.
it does work with dx10, it soun ded like you didnt know if it only worked with dx9? and my stock core is 650mhz not 600... maybe i just got a faster clocked one or something
jeje i have this gcard and dont over clock this thing it runs good for about 1 or 2 hours then it starts losing performance u might not be able to tel but yes...very nice grapchics card i run crysis gamer settings with this but its cz my proccesor i have pentium dealcore 2.40 GHz i got it 2 years ago and well its a good cpu for the cash......80 dollars lol..i get 45 to 5 frames per second..anyways good vid and sexy grapchis card
if u have a very good pc, why didn't u just recorded it with a program and why with a camera?:D it would be nicer than now. but its not so bad now. a think in program like gamecam, it has free trial.
nice, computer, I just upgraded all my stuff recently.
antec 300 case w/ five 120mm fans
OCZ game extreme 500w psu
AMD 5000+ 2.6ghz oc'd to 2.8
4gb ddr2-667 ram
BFG 9800gt oc+ 635mhz core clock 925mhz mem clock
Razer Lachesis gaming mouse
upgraded from a 4200+ 2.2ghz, 2gb ram, and a ati x1300 gpu from sapphire. the card is great. don't have an sli ready mobo, looking to upgrade and purchase another card, but for now it runs all the games i've thrown at it
the antec 900 hardly uses any power. fans dont hardly use anything. and i asked a pc technician and he said id be able to overclock my processor and card with no power issues
I upgraded from the 8500gt to the 9800 GT. is tricky assembling but very easy to install and performance is really impressive. Great hardware u got there by the way.
davefs25, i have just bought a new pc and was planning to fit my own graphics card (a 9800gt) which i have never done before. Just wondering why you found it a hard assemble ?
Not at all ! The cooling hotpipes grid already comes assembled. all u gotta do is install the small coolers between each pair of heat pipes and plug it in the cooler power supply of your motherboard. This card also features a 6-pin plug for power supply. It's kind of big card but it's very eficient and comes with standard DirectX 10®
i've got a AMD 5200+ X2 2.61GHz, i only have 1.75 GB of RAM and a 7300GS, im going to upgrade to the 9800gt, just wondering weather i should invest in andother 1GB of RAM or so. only have about £150 to spend overall.
Dude, seriously, you have a 60 FPS average, you know why n00b?
Because v-sync synchronizes your framerate to the refresh rate of your monitor, and every flat panel monitor's refresh rate is 60. You'd get a hell of a lot more FPS if you TURN V-SYNC OFF~!!~!! god damn, xD
meh fur us casual student gamers who dont require 1000fps in games like crysis, AMD is an awesome alternative. More than powerfull enough for most users and @ a fraction of intels prices. Plus Motherboards designed for the AMD platform are generally cheaper. Sure intel is faster, but you have to pay a premium for barely noticable improved performance
yea. i've been helping my brother and a few friends building their computers. i've gotten them always to start off with the cheaper X2 procs from AMD. a 3ghz 6000+ amd proc for 90 bucks is well worth it compared to same speed core 2 duo for 160 bucks.
barely. the 9800 is a rebadged 8800, and the 8800gt is almost the same performance as the 9600. In some games it even out perfo0rms it. id keep the $20 and not support nvidia with rebadging old cards to scew us out of money. I wounder how many ppl rushed out and upgraded their 8800gt to the 9800 gt not realising that the cards are identical.
well the 9800gt is actually running on 55nm process compared to the 65nm on the 8800gt. the 9800gt is worth it. look for the ones with the large coolers on it and you'll be able to overclock a bit more than the standard 8800.
hey man, the 9800GT is mostly a 8800gt, but is is a little bit more powerful and way more powerful than the 9600 gt. (9800 gt stream processoors is 112, the 9600 is 32. the 9800gt is mMORE POWERFUL THAN THE 9600GT!!!!
lol the 9800gt isnt anymore powerfull than the 8800gt. the only difference between them is the 9800 is running 55nm compared to 65nm. this however equates to nothing. performance wise they are identical. mate ahas an 8800gt, and another system with a 9800gt. same mobo ram cpu etc, benchmarking results are the same.
And as i said, they are the same GPU. you can even sli the two together. same card. It is a marketing ploy to lure noobs into upgrading to it.
lol i just did the video stress test in CS Source, running 9600GT 2 Gig Ram, crappy mobo, Athlon x2 5000+, and i got 180fps avg. dunno how u were getting less than 60
9800gt is a 8800gt rebadged. christ u can SLI a 9800gt and a 8800gt, they are the same card.
Hey fuck you kid, this faggot said the 8800 GT was better so and some other faggot also said the 6800 GX is good, maybe you're those kind of assholes that think they're good @ computers, if you are don't bother replying you dickfuck.
Wow. if you payed close attention to what they said, it really differentiates on WHAT you're using it for. before you try abating me and telling me i could be one of those kids that think i'm good at computers, you're a fucking moron. 9800 in some cases 8800 in others, maybe if you were a little more fucking specific about what you do with a card, Then i could be more help. How about you learn computers.
muppets! 8800gt and 9800gt is the same card! google it check the benchmark results of 9800gt it has identical results what a waste of money what is NVIDIA thinkin?!, dont be lazy search it! Hybrid Power is the only diff i see(hehehe now its diff), but hey F U! NVIDIA! by the way 8800gt is the best selling videocard in the market base on price and performance! not fanboy coz i have 4870x2 HAHAHA! PISSED??!!
I cant wait to get my one of these, ive got most specs the same as you. Its gonna be sick.
Also with the OS, whats the difference between the Home version OEM and the Full 32 bit version. I heard somewhere that with the OEM version you cant overclock, is this true?
me again, same setup and computer (aw) except 3.0ghz.. from our setup we both have is it really possible to upgrade further ? maybe perhaps just the graphics card..... I was thinking saving up and getting the nivida260 or 280 to play crysis at v high or ultra would alienware upgrade it for me (if i paid them of course.. for card labour etc..) ?. did you have to pay a courir to transport the machine or was that covered in there call and collect service. i have the 4yr call and collect...
Word of Advice Biuld ur own PC and save money! all u have to do is do aload of reassearch and u can teach yself how 2 do it. Its not difficult. Ur just wasting money buying expensive store PCs when u could prob biuld one far better much cheaper.
I`ve built 5 pc`s so far but my last one died a death so I decided to buy an Alienware as to be honest I couldn`t be bothered to rig up my own this time. Plus, I`d want to spend way too much lol, so that`s why I bought this rig.
I know how to build rigs matey, but the main thing that kinda put me off recently was the lack of good looking cases on the market.
Yeah i guess theres no case like alien ware. I also guess that its down to ur personal chioce end of the day but for me personally its all about whats inside and what you can do with it opposed to how it visual looks.
Yeh but thats all hardware montior is hardware, im on about a case and stuff. the style of a computer. Im saying thats id prefer performace and great visual in games over how smart the computer looks with my desk. u get me?
sum sites dont bother filling out exact details on certain cards for sum reason. I do think u should know all nvidia cards are SLI as standard and its been like that since the 7 series. the next time u ressearch on cards make sure u compared info of the same card on anouther site to ensure what u read is what u get.
I got this card for $40 to replace my old (same) one. I can run any game that I have at max graphics with no lag. Why spend $300 on a card thats way more than any game needs?

Nice man., good job.

Dude turn off VSYNC. With Sync on my 9800GT I got average 59.5fps on CSS Test, and without, 200 average and 395 max =)
GunskiMod 3 years ago
you can run 8800 gt's sli. you can run the 9800 gt with 3-way sli. That's pretty much the only difference between the two.
waldencc 3 years ago
actually that was just a rumor. 9800gt only supports 2 way sli
mexboiii 3 years ago
no asus has a tri sli 9800 gt
shubhamranjan 3 years ago
and 9800 gt has agiea physics built in
shubhamranjan 3 years ago
uhh, even the 8000 series have physx in them. not just the 9800gt... anything in the 8,9, and 200 series has physX

My old XFX 8800GT XXX is faster than this lol

If you disable vertical sync you'll get more then 59 fps average.... you'll get like 120 fps average! look it up in the advance settings
MXhm91 3 years ago
actually the big diffrence is that the 8800GT has 65nm process and the 9800GT has 55nm process , which makes it use less power and it runs cooler.
MXhm91 3 years ago
which equals more OCing

Word of Advice Biuld ur own PC and save money! all u have to do is do aload of reassearch and u can teach yself how 2 do it. Its not difficult. Ur just wasting money buying expensive store PCs when u could prob biuld one far better much cheaper.

I`ve built 5 pc`s so far but my last one died a death so I decided to buy an Alienware as to be honest I couldn`t be bothered to rig up my own this time. Plus, I`d want to spend way too much lol, so that`s why I bought this rig.
I know how to build rigs matey, but the main thing that kinda put me off recently was the lack of good looking cases on the market.
monochromeorca 3 years ago
Yeah i guess theres no case like alien ware. I also guess that its down to ur personal chioce end of the day but for me personally its all about whats inside and what you can do with it opposed to how it visual looks.
benvidshunt 3 years ago
this is not true in some cases anymore, especially if you need a monitor and a legit copy of xp or vista.
waldencc 3 years ago
Yeh but thats all hardware montior is hardware, im on about a case and stuff. the style of a computer. Im saying thats id prefer performace and great visual in games over how smart the computer looks with my desk. u get me?
benvidshunt 3 years ago
... the 8800gt has sli...
bogangamer 3 years ago
Yeah, I found that out today on the net, but I think that alot of other models didn`t support it (according to the net).

sum sites dont bother filling out exact details on certain cards for sum reason. I do think u should know all nvidia cards are SLI as standard and its been like that since the 7 series. the next time u ressearch on cards make sure u compared info of the same card on anouther site to ensure what u read is what u get.
benvidshunt 3 years ago
every single nvidia card baiscalaly since pcie geforce 7 series has sli.. i got the 9800gt.. and im going for sli soon =D
bogangamer 3 years ago
I WILL BE BUYING ONE SOON!!! thanks for the review dude
