Actually, I believe he was saying that the depression WOULD HAVE stopped in 1933. But, because of a Roosevelt presidency, the depression was prolonged for years to come. You are correct historically though. The depression ended with the beginning of WW-II. Some would argue the end of the war.

A couple of reasons to argue the depression did not end with WWII:

Millions of men were conscripted, or joined to avoid conscription, and removed from 'unemployed'.

Production for war created many jobs, which brought women into the workforce (increased 'household earnings'. Of course, war production does is BAD because it is not an investment, does not product revenue via export, etc.

Immediately after the war the economy was not strong and needed massive reforms.
