If you have loved an animal you don't need a study to show how much they feel. I once had a cat that had been trapped by a dog and terrorized for several min. and when I saved her and brought her into the house and was petting her she started to cry, real tears ran down her face. But that is just one small moment in years of owning pets and seeing many shows of emotions. I mean really if you know animals then you just know.
That anyone would even question whether animals have strong emotions and think things through in their own ways is terribly ignorant and arrogant of people. All that's a desperate rationalization for the terrible things people do to these amazing and sensitive creatures.
I'm certainly glad to hear that the scientific community is changing it's tune with animal emotions... I mean, come on... humans, the only thinking, feeling species? How unrealistic is this? (especially, as Bekoff pointed out, from a biological point of view.)
the thing is that animals can feel physical pain, so even if they were completly stupid (which I don't think), they'd deserve to be treated correctly!
Terribly unscientific!

Because we're arrogant blodgers clinging to a belief that anything not human must be lesser beings.

Ofcause animals have emotions. Even Charles Darwin knew that. The problem is that a lot of humans need something to make them feel superior.
