Any one familiar with the Polish Underground Army AK? They continued the fight from September 1st, 1939 well after the end of WWII into 1956. First fought against the Nazi Germany, later against the Stalinist USSR. It was sort of a civil war a brother against brother when the rest of Europe was rebuilding. One of the greates accomplishments of AK was their ability to execute justice bu coming and shoting of all those pigs that did sell out Jews, Gypsies, Poles and others.
For all the haters, first wrong place for politics. Second, what if during WWII the places were switched between the Poles and Jews? Who would sell out more? It is really easy to spread hatred based on facts blown out of proportion. I might of not be having a chance to write this should the Nazis have found my greandparents hiding jewish kids on the farm. I absolutely adore Krakow. I visit my grandparents and family in Warsaw every 2 years, and even though I've only been to Krakow once, I wish I'd lived there my whole life. It's such an amazing place. I love all the street performers, the castle, the food, everything.
Just for those who want to stay in Cracow for a few days, but travel budget and don't want to damage their wallets too much. Lonely Planet on their website offers Momotown Hostel. Seems like atmosphere is nice and i don't think you'll find any cheaper than that. It says on their page it's from 11euros per night in 8 mix dorm now. Obviously there's still ol' good couchsurfing or hospitality club, but somebody may make a use of this hint.

i've heard so many good things about Cracow I can't wait to visit there this summer. I may have to cut parts of my itinerary in other countries short, just so I can spend more time here. Could anyone recommend a good hostel or at least somewhere authentic yet doesn't break the wallet...?
1. Surely you should visit the Wawel castle. This is like 3 things in one, you'll see why ;)
2. Just go around the old center and get urself sucked in.
3. Go to Casmirus - the old jewish district - it's really nice
4. If you like parties, go to wielopole street, there are some nice clubs, 5 of them actually, in one building. Caryca, Lubudubu, Kitsch, OffCentrum. Also there is a lot of other nice clubs around the market square.
5. I don't know...maybe go shopping? or get drunk? :P
I came here when i was 17 on a history trip and i loved the place, still, it is the best place i've ever been. it is certainly a place that i will return to in the future. it truly is a beautiful city, from its history to the people there!

I have been Paris, London, Vienna, Rome, Warsaw and many in between - Krakow beats them all. It is worth the effort to get there as it is the most beautiful city, people are friendly and the food is fantastic. I would go back - but how I wish it was not 30 hours flying from Australia. !! Love you Polska.
I travel all over the world and this is the best city in all of Europe. Great food, great music, great architecture, great people... What more do you need to know? Visit in the Spring for a special treat when the flowers open.

i’ve obviously offended you with my opinion and response of equal measure, but unfortunately my experience of krakow after visiting and retrospective research is that it’s quite a nationalistic city so if you aren’t of caucasian appearance then it’s extremely likely this city won’t be for you. i’d recommend amsterdam, london, berlin, milan, madrid, stockholm or budapest if you’d want to visit a bustling vibrant cities where race is a non issue if this matters any

What?!! Absolulely not. The very first dance clip, of a line of men holding belts, is Bulgarian (looks Sop, from the area around Sofia), not Polish Highlander (and there is no similiarity). The next clips--the women--are Polish but not Polish Highlander.

I absolutely adore Krakow. I visit my grandparents and family in Warsaw every 2 years, and even though I've only been to Krakow once, I wish I'd lived there my whole life. It's such an amazing place. I love all the street performers, the castle, the food, everything.

Just for those who want to stay in Cracow for a few days, but travel budget and don't want to damage their wallets too much. Lonely Planet on their website offers Momotown Hostel. Seems like atmosphere is nice and i don't think you'll find any cheaper than that. It says on their page it's from 11euros per night in 8 mix dorm now. Obviously there's still ol' good couchsurfing or hospitality club, but somebody may make a use of this hint.

No nie wiem Łódź i Katowice kojarzą się przedewszystkim jako molochy przemysłowe a reszta jako prowincje ale naprawde warto je odwiedzić, i oprócz Bielska trzeba obronić Warszawę, Łódź i Kielce i to na 100%. Co do reszty- nie jestem pewien, ale do tego powinny dojść Lublin, Białystok, Olsztyn, Rzeszów i Opole, a nie ciągle Kraków, Wrocław i Gdańsk, chociaż są ładne mi się już chce patrząc na ich przerklamowanie rzygać.

1. Surely you should visit the Wawel castle. This is like 3 things in one, you'll see why ;)
2. Just go around the old center and get urself sucked in.
3. Go to Casmirus - the old jewish district - it's really nice
4. If you like parties, go to wielopole street, there are some nice clubs, 5 of them actually, in one building. Caryca, Lubudubu, Kitsch, OffCentrum. Also there is a lot of other nice clubs around the market square.
5. I don't know...maybe go shopping? or get drunk? :P

I came here when i was 17 on a history trip and i loved the place, still, it is the best place i've ever been. it is certainly a place that i will return to in the future. it truly is a beautiful city, from its history to the people there!

I have been Paris, London, Vienna, Rome, Warsaw and many in between - Krakow beats them all. It is worth the effort to get there as it is the most beautiful city, people are friendly and the food is fantastic. I would go back - but how I wish it was not 30 hours flying from Australia. !! Love you Polska.
